I wasn't talking about Georgia. I was talking about Arch's start against ULM.

ULM lost by 40 to auburn this week. Mississippi state hasn’t won a single conference game. Those are not remotely close to examples of what arch would face at Kyle field or in the playoffs.

the complete dismissal of what could go wrong with arch behind center for a title run on this thread is really odd to me.

So what about what could go right?

Players in the middle. You’re welcome to rewatch and make note if you like. It wasn’t often, but it happened contrary to your hyperbole.

Because you’re dismissing what could and has gone wrong with Quinn. It’s not about Arch, it’s that Quinn is playing at such a low level and making freshman mistakes regularly

His ability to do just that was pointed out at least once yesterday.  Maybe more, we had it on mute most of the time and I have zero compunction to go back and rewatch that game.

It’s pretty simple. He’s good at progressions with a clean pocket but when the pocket gets iffy then his ability to go through progressions basically disappears. Well, that and everything associated with being a consistent qb disappears.

Against Vandy Quinn completed 2 passes of 10 yards or more that get categorized as over the middle. They were both seams straight up the hash.
I don’t recall a single throw over the middle yesterday except for the drop by Gunnar and the terrible throw to Gunnar on the “catchable” ball.
You asserted it happened. I’m asking for any example.

PFF had him 5-6 between the hashes from 10-19 yards yesterday.  76 yards.

They also had him pressured at 14% (for the second game in a row), which on the season would likely rank him as the least pressured QB in the country.

Yeah, and it might have been good for Arch to have a few games to learn. Like say, second half of Georgia, Vanderbilt, Florida, Arkansas, Kentucky and aggie.. right?

What about the two games he started? Jesus Christ.

In the Florida game yesterday. Lagway climbed up in the pocket and as he was being hit threw a dime deep down the field to the one. That was such a great throw if Quinn even had a tenth of that accuracy our guys who are running free downfield would have several more TDs this season

Arch threw a few of the worst passes I've ever seen in my life against ULM, just total fucking idiot throw into triple-coverage passes. I think our coaches know what they're doing in this matter.

Yes he did and he corrected most of that in the next game. That's the upside in Arch people love. He has talent and is a quick study. Quinn on the other hand keeps doing the same idiotic shit and worse game after game.

Between the hashes is a little different than throwing over the middle bexause it includes some of the vertical stuff hash stuff. IE, one of the curls we caught for about 15 yards. I just watched it back and counted 1 complete to Golden across the middle where the throw was longer than 5 air yards. I might have missed 1 but that is an insanely low percentage of throws. It’s a problem

And I'm looking forward to Arch when he next comes in. Maybe we have to bench Quinn against Kentucky, who knows? He needs to play better.

That’s fair but I think arch’s performance against ULM and MS aren’t representative of what arch would face at A&M or in the playoffs. I think arch has a low that’s low enough to guarantee a loss in the playoffs and truth is most inexperienced QBs make mistakes at the wrong times. Quinn is inconsistent but we all know his best is good enough. Problem is getting  him to put together 3-4 great games. He may not do it, but I think game losing freshman mistakes are all but guaranteed in the playoffs with arch.

And by the same token, had Arch been playing since Georgia, he would have been developing, and he'd be better prepared by now. Likewise, it assumes he hasn't developed any simply from practicing and the passage of time since then. The whole crux of this matter is Quinn's poor performance.

Gotcha.  That was the closest, quickest info I could get.  The middle of the field to the intermediate area has been missing all year.

Backing out throws behind the LOS, we were 10-22.

At some pt Quinn is his tape. Right now the Michigan game is looking like the exception. Right now I don’t trust Quinn vs a top level defense. Not sure I trust Arch either, but he is playmaker. He can make a bad play into a good one, mostly with his feet. He may be a mad bomber, but that helps the run game. His legs also have to be accounted for by a defense

He threw a laser to Helm for 12 or so yards and a first down deep in our own territory that they showed multiple times from the end zone view

On the final TD drive he hit Juan Davis over the middle which wasn’t quite 10 yards but was for a first down

Edit: and yes, we were all calling for more of that during the game

I agree with this and I so painfully want it to happen ... but we've been waiting for him to get hot all season.  It seems like he has yet to take over a game.  Both games vs Alabama he was dictating everything on the field (and remember that bomb to worthy for a TD, was that his last good deep ball?).  This season he's played well against Michigan and Florida but I wouldn't say he played well enough to win the SEC title and three playoff games.  Think about that (assuming we handle Kentucky), Quinn has to play well against A&M, the SEC championship, and three playoff games to win the title.  Does ANYONE think Quinn can win five highly competitive games in a row?  Based on how he's looked this season I'd say no.  But I doubt Arch would have a better chance and if Quinn does get hot that's our best scenario.  So, keep playing Quinn.

Remember when people were digging for their pitchforks for John Chiles over Colt, or VY to WR?

Arch didn’t do shit against Georgia and he hasn’t done anything in practice to displace Ewers. We’re still 9-1 after losing the RB many considered RB2 or RB1-b with that little bitch at Okie Lite, and literally every team who plays us knows we don’t have RBs that can consistently keep the secondary honest with Baxter rehabbing his knee…so they’re often in deep thirds (which you don’t see from your couch) because they know if they let Texas go deep, they’ll be playing from behind against the Texas D.

True, it wasn’t equidistant from each sideline…but it was in the middle of the shit that was happening on the play, and he was moving from outside to in.

I shall consider that to be an “in the middle” play.

Quinn isn’t getting benched until he messes up like in the UGA game. The question is, does sark have the balls to pull him before it’s get bad? He should’ve been pulled earlier in the UGA game.

He should be on a short leash, but will he? Let’s see if sark has the balls. I’ve been on Quinn’s side as long as I could. I was really pulling for him but he hurts this team more than he helps.

I think us being 9-1 with Arch is totally debatable. He's looked good and he's looked not good. A dumb pick or two on the road against Vandy or Arky and we'd have lost.

Why don't you try reading my posts on the subject just a few above yours. As for beating Quinn out in practice, this isn't a fall camp competition situation. And Quinn doesn't have to worry about contact in practice. Football games are played full contact, not 7 on 7.

I don't need to prove to you that your statement was ridiculous. It was and you can accept that or not.

we go as far as the D takes us.  barring stupid TO's and special teams disasters we can win it.

Quinn makes freshman mistakes regularly and turns the ball over half of his games.
Sark has clearly limited our playbook for Quinn.
Quinn is a single read QB. Please don’t try to pretend he is good at going through his progressions. Lulz.

This is my point. Arch may not be perfect but the supposed freshman issues are the same issues our 3rd year starter has.

This has nothing to do with respect. Absolute clown reply.

He is not a single read QB. He doesn’t always make the right decision but he has a much better grasp of elite defenses than arch does and in fact does go through his progressions.

his limitations are mobility, pocket presence, and the deep ball. But touch, intermediate accuracy and reading defenses he’s way ahead of arch.

The crux of it is which QB gives Texas the best chance at a title run this year and nothing else matters. The fact that QE should be better this year than he is is not an option right now. It’s a redshirt freshman with zero big game experience or QE who has won big and has shit the bed. Sark had emphatically made his decision, I agree with him for this year. No doubt arch has a much higher ceiling for his career but he does not have a higher ceiling for this year and against playoff contenders im going to guess sark doesn’t think he’s ready either.

I’m still not exactly sure that we should bail on Quinn for Arch, I’m just really starting to run out of reasons that make me think it would be worse. Again, that’s how bad he is playing. It isn’t about Arch being a savior, it’s about Quinn playing like a true freshman.
