I am worried about UGA, especially on the trenches. They dominated us on the lines when we were pretty good last year, even at home. I am scared to think what they will do our current OL and DBs. Hope I am wrong. Hope Archibald has a heisman worthy performance because that's probably what it will take to win in Athens.

In the SEC championship game drops and penalties did us in. Golden had the drop in the endzone. Helm and Wingo had costly drops along the sideline. But the person that hurt us the most was Bond. If I recall correctly he had two holding calls, then he got called for picking Helms man, plus the drop that turned into an INT. If the defense shows up and we can play even a remotely clean game offensively we should be able to come out on top. Coach needs to call the same type gameplan he did the last two weeks. Georgia isn't what they have been defensively. They can be had.

Do you have faith that Sark will continue with what’s been working?

As I stated before, I do not. The only time in Sark's career where he went off reservation and created and offense for a guy that stuck was Jake Locker. But he had just gotten there and it was only just for that year. He was a coach trying to prove himself then. This Sark? He is a guy who is the head coach at one of the top few jobs in CFB who just came off back to back CFPs, a feat no one has accomplished. I don't think you can tell this Sark shit. So my confidence is pretty low on him continuing.

Man, there was an ouroboros, a circle-jerk, of suck going on in the early season.  Arch, OL, Sark, WR, even RB a little bit.  Each was making their own individual contribution to the suck, but it was feeding on itself and compounding into super suckage.

Arch, for now at least, has seemed to muddle through the suck, and so has the OL, a little bit, and for now.

I'm happy for him and glad the patience with him has seemed to pay dividends.  We really actually know now what he's more or less capable of instead of trying to conjure it from the past.

But the suck could return.

On the other hand, Sark had not really built a program anywhere before either.  Nor had he scaled the heights of CFP and returned pretty harshly to earth.

He's stubborn or blinkered or something, but not incapable of learning.

Chase Daniels has a lot of reasons to dislike Texas. His Top 10 Missouri team (2008?) got smoked when Texas jumped out to a 35-0 2nd qtr lead.

But, he's an NFL QB who knows his craft, and the differences between the college game and the NFL, and the skills and performances that translates between them.

He did a great job of showing the pre-snap alignment and disguised coverages, the WR routes, the options that would, and were, either covered or open, and Arch's reading them one by one, going through his progressions, until he found the open receiver.  Or the opposite, recognizing he would have a one on one pre snap and just waiting to make the throw. You can't see some of that from watching TV.

Chase was pretty emphatic on a few of them, going through the progressions, and making the throws; "... this is why he will be the #1 draft choice..."

Arch recognized the blitz early, anticipated the gaps in coverage, and got the ball out quick, which made the OL look a lot better. He had a bunch of NFL throws Saturday.

The way he led Wingo like he did, the defender following him across the field had no chance to get there to make a tackle. If Wingo breaks stride, or jumps, or reaches back, it is just a routine behind the line pass, + or - 2-3 yards.

(Chase was very complimentary of Weisner's pass blocking.)

Reading 4 pages of this thread is agonizing. How the fuck did you get into Texas? Oh, you were concussed after you graduated? Ooops!

"... he missed some throws ..."  Really?

So did Mahomes, and Dak, and Josh Allen. Everybody misses wide open throws.

Ironically, I came here way back when, (pre Shaggy?) to read and chat about Texas football.

I avoid this thread most of the time because of the unrealistic expectations that some of you place on a bunch of kids.

Arch's advisors wanted him to have 20+ pre-NFL starts for a reason. Like it or not, that comes with some growing pains.

Some of the YouTube videos do a great job of analyzing everything that happens before Arch throws the ball, the poor (terrible) play calling, the ole' blocks, the poor route running, the things that make the QB look bad.

Maybe a few of you should broaden your horizons, and consider some opinions other than your own, before you make some of your comments.

Next thing we’re gonna see are posts about how great our OL is and how Golden wasn’t really that good

I wanted us to recruit Chase when he was at SLC.  He and Greg McElroy are alums of different schools but their second favorite team is Texas.  I also think that Brad Spence’s people reached out to us about transferring.  Most of the state wants to play here.  We need Sark to keep up the modified Greg spread offense.

News Flash, our O-line has sucked every year under Sark. We've never had a great O-line. That's why we cannot run Inside Zone, like Sark wants to. Instead we have to tapdance sideways because our guys are incapable of moving people out of the way. Our line has gotten dominated by every good defensive front we've faced for years. This year ain't nothing new. Last year we got bullied by Arizona State, Ohio State, and twice by Georgia. The shitty big 12 teams hid some warts, but they were always there. That's how you go to PIG and get routed 21-40.

Actually that isn't the only time. Sark's last & best season at UW in 2013, which lead to him being hired at USC, they went all in on a HUNH RPO spread offense:

I remember Ian Boyd did a whole write-up for SB Nation on the changes that UW made to their offense going into that season & on the results of the blowout season opener win vs. Boise St. But I can't find the article. Looks like all of Ian's SB Nation articles from before late September 2013 are gone.

I dunno, we'll see.  I don't discount the possibility that he's going to try to Sark up the offense at the earliest opportunity.

But, he's been slapped in the face with a couple of really hard points of evidence that I'm not sure he's encountered before:  two top 10 wins by going away from the preferred offense, and a loss and two bad wins with complete offensive stagnation while attempting the preferred offense.

This will be Sark's opportunity to extract himself from the ourobouros of suck.

OL was not bad last year. This is just wrong. Little banged up late at Tackle, but you cannot compare last year's OL to this years. Pass blocking is just another level.

Sark has moved to a progression quick passing game and Manning is very good at that. We have seen a lot less of the immediate pressure the last 5 quarters, but they are no where near as good as the OL last year (Baker is really trending up, I dont think people are giving him credit). Its the reason people are coming out saying Arch now looks like what they expected.

I understand the point you are trying to make, but Livingstone is quite obviously the 4th best receiver on this team.  Now that Mosley and Moore are healthy, our weapons at WR are pretty fucking solid.

Mosley is probably the best right now and he is the least athletic of the bunch, but this is WR group is a step below last couple years. Lot of solid, but nobody that is an obvious #1 WR

Mitchell and bond are athletes that happen to play wr, neither one of them ran great routes, worked hard, or had good football iq. Mitchell is still trying to figure out how to play wr correctly as we speak. Quinn fought the same silly shit arch fights. Scheme and people not doing their jobs consistently. Quinn had some things he could have done better for sure but the argument that Quinn was THE problem and arch is the savior has been proven false I believe.

Golden wasnt the guy at first and Worthy had consistency and injury issues. We’re seeing our receiver are fine. Ive been underwhelmed at tight end.

Parker out here catching strays when could have easily had a 80+ yard TD on a big coverage bust by Vandy.  I think Wingo being out of the game for most of Vandy allowed the good receivers we had to flourish.  Wingo is the fastest most explosive receiver, but he needs a lot of work to become a great receiver.

Golden might not have started out the guy, but it came apparent he was the guy by mid-season. I dont think the WR are bad but Texas may not have a WR that is a top 10 WR in the conference.

Wingo is a bad route runner with poor technique, and he doesn't create separation downfield. We are using him wisely with the screen game, would like to see more end arounds too.

It's disappointing, hopefully he figures shit out next year.

The nfl analysis of worthy, Mitchell and bond all have the same glaring weaknesses. Poor route running, inconsistency, lacking strength to fight through tight coverage and taking plays off when not getting the football. They weren’t complete wr’s, the offense made them look better than they were. It’s the same shit arch is fighting now. It’s a Texas issue, for some reason Texas has trouble finding wr’s. Ohio state, Alabama, LSU don’t seem to have as big of a problem finding wr’s who are the total package.

You’ll win that bet, but how much of his draft selection was from running a 4.21? The nfl can’t help but take guys on measurable abilities. They love it. Anthony Richardson is a pretty good example, recently.

We have a few good receivers but nobody is elite and there is no safety blanket at the TE position. When things broke down, Quinn was often bailed out by Sanders and Helm. Arch doesn't have that luxury.

I mean it’s not like he’s a bust in the nfl right now. Just be honest would you take worthy over any of our receivers?  Golden all day over anyone we have.  Maybe Mitchell?

Well, at least this UGA defense sucks by comparison, too.

Ted Bundy was slightly more into necrophilia than Gary Ridgeway by comparison. They're still going to be the most dangerous defense we play outside of Ohio State (whom I don't want to count because a. It was game one and Arch looked like he was throwing the ball with a hook for a hand, and b. See 'A'.). Obviously you know this.

There's a reason we're the underdogs again, and it's not because it's being played at Sanford stadium or they're higher ranked, it's because Kirby owns Sark like Stoops owned Mack. If our OL looks like a clown show with house shoes dipped in WD-40 on an ice skating rink and can't give Arch more time than to give him a microscopic view of their turf, and end up taking a beat down from a team that a coach-less Florida took the wire, the hammering from the media will make a deaf kid singing Whitney Houston look like Ashley Simpson at a karaoke. We simply cannot afford to look incompetent after beating two formerly top 10 ranked teams (where we viewed them is irrelevant, it's just what the polls had them at).

Sark has to beat Kirby at this point in his five seasons. If we go 0-3 against that queef smelling scat fetishist, after now that he's 0-2 against a guy who people should be refreshing the sex offenders registry to see if he's on it yet... There should be no reason at this juncture in his career he should be losing games to teams with equal talent. At worst, he should have one win over him without Saban's hand holding. I don't want to be an absurdist, but it'll start to feel a lot like James Franklin vs Ohio State, or Ryan Day vs Michigan (minus the NC). The Clemson win looks laughable at this point now, and don't get me started on ASU. Alabama was a lifetime ago right now. Great win, but hanging on to that hardware is beginning to look at lot like aggy printing cups over their win again LSU in 2018.

Kind of. Stoops only has 3 more wins over Mack with a 9-6 record, but those blowouts made it seems so, so much worse. More like 16-3 record. I think the only time I can remember a Texas team under Brown absolutely dominating a Stoops team was 2005. That's it. Outside of that, it was within 1-2 TD's for us, at most. For them, the scores were more like the difference in looks between Bella Ramsey and Adriana Lima.

I'll also add this - of those 9 wins, four were blowouts to the tune of

2000: 49 pts

2003: 52 pts

2011: 38 pts

2012: 42 pts

Not to mention motherfucker lost five in a row 2000-04.

Abysmal. Abasement.

To add insult to injury, Strong and Herman were 2-6 against them.

That's how you go to PIG and get routed 21-40.

tbf our OL was shitty under the last two and a half coaches, too
