Who is the first to be kicked off the ride mid-season? Used to be vanishingly rare but in recent years more the norm. Early candidates:

Deshaun Foster, UCLA: No wins and two losses to Mountain West teams, an apathetic fan base, and no relief on the horizon. They will be lucky to get to three wins and there is already smoke it might have happened.

Brent Pry, VaTech: Losses to then 11 South Carolina and even Vandy can be bounced back from. Getting smoked by ODU? Nope. VaTech is at the very bottom of an underwhelming ACC and is there really any reason to think Pry can pull them level with even Georgia Tech, let alone FSU or Miami? Might they take a run again at Shane Beamer?

Billy Napier, Florida. Seems he is done, just a question of him. A very talented team look sloppy, uninspired, unprepared.  Put simply— uncoached. They have the talent to win the next three but my money is on a total meltdown against Miami and the boosters will jump in to demand an interim.

Well that escalated quickly

Beamer should strongly consider the VT job. Obviously, he’d be going home, but it’s a much easier conference. He’s never going to get over the jump at South Carolina. Might as well go home, win 9 games a year, and get a statue next to dad.

Sir, would you be interested in sending over your Mega Millions number selections?  I'm happy to share the jackpot.

Tend to agree but I don’t know what the NIL situation is at VaTech. The formula for Beamer was to do well within Virginia  and the DC area.  The five stars even then might have gone to the SEC or Big Ten but VaTech getting a good chunk of the top 10-30 players and maybe a couple from NC or Tennessee would be good for a top 20-30 class which is competitive in the ACC. Now you have Penn State, Clemson, USCe, and even Maryland and other Big 10 schools killing VaTech in state and they recruit more around 40 or 45.

I am sure the NIL at USCe is better than VaTech but maybe a Beamer RETVRN would light a fire with donors?

I think the money will be there at VT. It’s their only path back to relevance. They can’t make a third consecutive poor hire.
