Not having to spend a ton of film time today on another pitcher is going to help us big time

22 ABs to go back and watch versus Canady.   Not like we are going to see Riassetto (2.17 ERA) or Lincoln (3.65) today

The only thing that would have made the Reese IW hit better would for her to have yanked it over the left field fence, pimped the HR watch, slammed the bat and made Canady watch her run around the bases while we all celebrated!   Plus it would have been 3-1 and we'd all have about 15 extra minutes on our ticker lifetimes not having to go through the 7th inning as tight.😁

I slightly disagree. Had Kayden stolen home during that IW to tie it, THEN Reese blasted a 2-run dinger, it would have been an extra-nice chef's kiss.

You're deliberately not acknowledging the point.

Am I?  It seems like the $1 million for a softball player is a separate pot from football.  If BV needs $1 million for a 5 star QB, why would he ask the Loves when he could he ask CeeDee Lamb ($5 million donor) or the Kimreys or the Braum family or whoever else?

It just feels like different pots of money and different priorities.  Like I said, you have niche donors who know 1 player in basketball or softball can win your school a title for a measly $1m to $1.5m (rumored for Chavez).  A single million dollar football player isn't going to win you a title.

Your entire NIL budget for those sports are less than your starting QB/RB might be making.

I could make the argument that we are close to having rock solid evidence that a million dollar player in softball is not going to win a title either. LOL

But a million dollar player got a team who has never done shit in the history of the sport to the title game.

So our plan is to hope CJ Baxter goes pro and makes hundreds of millions in the NFL, gets married to Mia, and donates back to Texas softball?

And then have a bunch of super-athlete babies who end up going to Texas.

very true...now how many other teams who have never done shit in the history of the sport have a donor willing to throw a million bucks away?

Yes you are. It's the illustration. First off, you're completely mistaken at the idea that "funds are separate from football." Texas One Fund handles a ton of NIL for all the different sports, while football is certainly prioritized, guess what, unless that money is designated to a specific sport, it's going to football first and foremost. Additionally, the funds come from Boosters. Period. A guy who gave his maximum amount for the year has given his maximum amount.

The "Just ask someone else" Fallacy is just that, because OU is already going around whining about how fucking poor they are, and how they can't compete. Period. It's not because they're sitting on a ton of funds and the athletic department just hasn't asked for more money the right way.

But you're really missing the actual point. You can speculate their booster and NIL funds all you want, and you can apply whatever logic you want to the situation, but that is completely IMMATERIAL to the perception that recruits have...which is "You found million dollars for a softball player, but you won't find market value for my son?" It doesn't matter the circumstances, the reality, just like it doesn't matter that our football NIL roster didn't cost 45 million dollars...Kirk Bohls said it, and now the perception is the reality, and we have to deal with it. And that narrative would be a problem for OU.

Okay, back to the actual game tonight. I do think we see Mac to start, as Mike has that luxury and she earned that right vs. Tennessee. I hope they have her in a private room at the hotel with an endless supply of Mt Dew, sour patch kids and little Debbie snacks, so we see her at her absolute best.

Pickens can come to Texas and earn half a million on fucking instagram endorsements. She's not Livvy Dunne, but she's fucking smoking hot. I bet she could easily make Lauren Burke money, and she had a fucking assload of sponsorships while at UT. She had an athleisure company paying her, an energy drink company paying her, and apparently Qualcomm technologies. H&R Block. Lifesum. Listen, I'm just scrolling through her instagram at this point, for you guys, because it was extremely painful to learn that Lauren Burke is now married to some chode and pregnant. I make this sacrifice for you, surly.

Anyway, the point is, Pickens is hot enough to get a good fucking chunk of corporate money in Austin. More than pretty much any other city, I'd wager.

Tennessee Lady Vols starting pitcher/relief pitcher Karlyn Pickens (23) pitches against the Virginia Cavaliers at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium in Knoxville, TN on Sunday, May 19, 2024.

I had to look this girl up after this post because I hadn’t heard of her. Holy overrated Batman. She’s nothing close to Livvy Dunne and won’t get anything near significant corporate sponsorship.

Also, what made Livvy special wasn’t just her looks. There were tons of similarly hot female athletes. She engaged with fans on social media, posted funny/self-aware content and knew how to show herself off. This girl does none of that from what I see. And yeah I probably would pass if she offered.

"This girl isn't Livvy Dunne" - SydneyCarton in his original post

"Hey, that girl isn't close to Livvy Dunne." - Helobious, ever the fucking idiot.

We're all glad you felt the need to type all that out in agreement, although now the fact you agree with me haunts me. If you had read my post, you'd see me compare her to former UT player Lauren Burke, who demonstrably had a fuck ton of corporate sponsorships while playing Softball for Texas in Austin. The post is as much about the availability of corporate money in Austin for attractive softball players. It has nothing to do with Livvy Dunne, other than saying "she's not livvy dunne" in the first part of the post, you fucking stupid non-reading fuck.

I'm glad you had to look her up, despite me literally including a picture in the post. Are you fucking blind too?

I believe you're right but I wont be surprised if Teagan is starting. Shes not taxed. Only 140 pitches in the last 4 days considering the 2 off days.

Mac does absolutely deserve the start

Tennessee was hitting .302 with 73 HR, .511 SLG% and scoring about 5.78 runs per game.

Mac only 3 hits, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts. One XBH allowed.

Tech has a better BA (.317) with fewer HR (60), worse slugging % (.494) and scoring about 6.04 runs per game

Not a huge difference, as long as our defense can handle all the ground balls coming their way

That's an interesting way to describe a major league baseball player who just become the first Tiger to hit three homers in a game since 2016 haha.

For the uninitiated, she's married to Detroit RF, Kerry Carpenter:

It's a decision that could go both ways. I can understand both choices but Teagan has given up 1 earned run in 20 innings against Texas Tech this year and shes not taxed. I'm in the group of dont get cute and make Texas Tech beat the pitcher 2 times that they haven't been able to score on all year.

Well she has mowed down the Tech lineup 3 time already, so I don't think they are going to suddenly make huge adjustments and tag her for a bunch of runs

21 innings pitched (9 innings, 5 innings, 7 innings)
13 hits
2 runs (1 earned)
27 strikeouts
3 walks

For what it is worth, the Lauren Burke experience led to a locker room implosion.  I’m not going to opine as to what, if any, impact that should have in the future and White’s role in needing to manage that.  I’m only saying that there are very real factors affecting real team dynamics when it comes to players getting NIL in large part due to looks.  To be sure, Pickens is a better player than Burke.  You can say the players need to accept the way the world works blah blah blah, but petty jealousies exist and need to be balanced and taken into account.

A moot point (unless Kavan unexpectedly goes elsewhere), but something to consider.

The 3 walks is the critical stat. Dont manufacture offense for a team that cant hit. Mike White was yelling last night to Teagan to throw strikes. Does Mac have issues with walks?

18 in 73.2 IP

As long as she keeps the ball down and is getting a low strike call, she will be fine

Citlaly has the walk problem of the 3

I remember Jammer talking about his little 8 year old brother Quandre in 2000 and how close they were despite their big age difference.  And thinking it would be cool if played ball at Texas. Then we almost very stupidly did not offer him 10 years later.
