Auburn-OU (Sep. 20) should be a fun watch/listen. I expect both teams to put it all out there and each QB (Arnold and Mateer) to try to hero-ball to victory.

its eerie how close these situations rhyme , the main difference is the OU AD didn't have to get on an emergency plane trip to hire his G5 OC

The most amusing part of the current state of OU football isn’t that they suck. But that they suck because their programs is failing in the exact same way Texas did over the last decade.

With a significant difference being the exit ramp. Texas finally had everything come together at the same time: hungry and talented new coach, badass proven winner AD, president and donors ready to lay their dicks on the table, and the advent of the portal and NIL. I don't really see that happening with those broke ass morons up north. Welcome to your decade-plus of mediocrity, sooners.

Hypothetically, if they were to make a coaching change after the season, which coach would you not want them to hire, who would turn the program around and be a thorn in the side?

Regarding "realistic" options, Canham at Oregon State is the one guy I would really prefer to see them avoid. He coaches at a weird school already. He recruits well, he develops well, and he's winning at a tough place to win (now, obviously they've won titles before NIL and losing conference affiliation). He's also really young, so he'd be there a while. Nope. Pick some other dude.

Aaaaannnnndddd that's my view for coaching candidates at ATM for baseball, in the OU recruiting thread. Solid work.

Replace what I just about Canham and sub Dillingham in and it kind of works still.

I, for one, thought it was an inspiring, outside the box, position to take. Look at what Canham does with 9 guys on the field. Give him 11 and everybody should look out. I think you're on the forefront on this one and should stick to your guns.

Would Dillingham take a job where Nagy doesn’t work for him? I doubt it. They’re going to have to hire another assistant

Yes - unless they actually get some corporate sponsorship (P66) and or Pilot/Flying J, they’ll be left in the dust.  The individual donors, similar to aggy, are tapped out.  The requirement of a consistent NIL corporate cash flow is beyond them.  Similar to Bama and LSU, as that why they’re crying for NIL “guardrails.”

I might be one of the bigger Dillingham supporters here.  I won't say he will not ever leave his alma mater but if he does, it won't be because of money. He's one of those guys that's wired differently (like Chris Peterson). He isn't just an alum,  he grew up here. Started coaching high school while in high school ( you can fact check that to be sure). Listening to him,  there is genuine love for ASU and it's not just another job.  That can all change with the support around him and if he ever feels ASU isn't trying to get better. But for the time being,  he's likely to stay here despite bigger payday elsewhere.  At least for now.

Mostly agree, with one caveat. Yes, OU lacks the higher tier financial backing. No, they are not optimizing what they have. Similar to how Texas would be if Herman were not fired, I’m sure there are willing boosters that want to sit out this current wave of giving and keep their powder dry for a Sooner coach they believe can get things done (i.e. not Venables). “Joe, why should I give $5 million to sign a couple of sure studs? All they’ll do is take OU from 6-6 to 8-4 and we’ll be one year farther away from doing anything “.

I work with an OU donor, one of my bigger bosses, who is a “Bud Wilkinson” donor, with his name in the program of the last time OU was “home” in the RRR.  He has seats in a corporate suite for each game in Norman and has basically told me he’s tapped out, beyond the season tickets/suite basis, until the next year or two pans out.
