This is pathetic. But what is even more pathetic is that our best players are not out here playing and trying to build chemistry and momentum with this squad with the most important world cup in our history coming up next year. Nothing kills team morale like your best player deciding he has better things to do than try and develop with you. Pulisic is no Dempsey, that much I am sure of. He is just another prima donna with an annoying dad.

How do you feel about Johnny Football Cardoso?

Deep Thought: If we win the Gold Cup, we will really highlight how fucking worthless that tournament is.

Waited 30 years to get to host a World Cup.   Now we got Trump and a team that sucks shit through a straw.   At least I’m gonna save a shit ton of money.

I was thinking about that the other day. The combination  of US soccer smearing ourselves in our own shit together with all the travel bullshit Trump will no doubt have in place might make this significantly cheaper than it would have otherwise been. South and Central Americans will likely have to pass a melanin test and I bet a bunch of Euros say fuck it and dont travel here. There's only so many russians and north koreans that can afford it.

Pretty much the same. They're both pussies that don't take well to the weight of the shirt (which might weigh a little more if we got rid of the fucking rainbow numbers).

Tolkin seems like he gives a shit but he's just not a very good player. Agyameng basically the same.

Luna is awesome. McGlynn has promise. We need more dirtbags that actually give a shit. For everyone talking shit about CP he fits that mold and doesn't let being a Euro star detract from it.

We have no back 4. The closest to it is if we can patchwork something together with Jedi, Dest and Adams all healthy but we have a better chance of Selena Gomez giving me a handjob.

Not sure we really have a keeper.

The pool is a mess. The chemistry feels like a mess. Our health - like always - is a mess.

I think my only hope coming out of this is that Poch knows who doesn't want it and who he can't play in '26. But that's probably wishful thinking.

We'll see how the Gold Cup goes, I guess.

So what the fuck do we even do? This thing needs a full on reboot but there’s not enough time nor enough games left for that. The pool is either disinterested or sucks and Poch is pretty much just here to chill for 18 months between European jobs.

There’s nothing meaningful that can be done at this point. There’s no time left which is why this tournament was so important to have our best players for. Now we go back to starting from scratch after the Gold Cup.

We are in for a South Africa-type World Cup at this pace. Which is embarrassing considering how much money is poured into the game in this country.

If I can play a little (or a lot) Devil's advocate...

These weren't comps. These were friendlies. In the first one I thought outside of Cardoso being a fucking jackass we probably outplayed Turkey. In the second one we got completely embarrassed but I would have believed that based on the dogshit XI we started the game with.

In both games we played a lot of guys that both have no business being on the pitch for us in '26 and also will not be on the pitch for us in '26.

There appears to be an overall give a shit/play for the shirt issue but I don't know how much of that is the coach and how much of that is the players.

Poch's back is against the wall. He has had a few windows now to experiment with shit and throw a bunch of stuff at the drawing board. I hope that is what he has been doing and he has maybe figured something out  - because there is a good XI somewhere in this pool that he has available to him for the Gold Cup.

That said...

I don't like the overall attitude. I don't like how guys that we are calling up are showing up for our country. Guys like Tillman and Cardoso are straight up embarassing the shirt. I'm not sure I like the coach. Then again - all most of you did for years was ask for the coach to be fired thinking it would fix everything - while I repeatedly highlighted how ass our back 4 and lack of depth there was.

I want to see what we do in the Gold Cup. After that - if we look like this same level of dick - I'll freak out with the rest of you and the best of you. But - I think there's a chance that we come out and look pretty fucking good.

I'm just not gonna give up quite yet. I'm probably not going to give up until Pulisic and McKennie and Adams and Antonee are out there for a full 90' and we get sent home from our own World Cup.

These are my fucking guys and I refuse to believe that we're this bad.

I think this is the real issue. Desire to be on the men's national team is as low as I have ever seen it. You just dont see the same passion and pride that we saw with the 2000s teams. They were not the most talented teams but players like McBride, Donovan, and Dempsey were just built different than these chumps.

If this was the #1s, I agree with this, but it wasn’t. I mean this was a C squad at best out there. It was a chance to see some guys under pressure and a lot of them wilted. It was bad yes, but like others have said a lot of this squad is not going to sniff the field next year.

One thing is the gap between the A and B squad is huge (not to mention to these C guys). I get what Poch wants to do, see if he can get guys to bridge that gap, but that is a huge jump, I don’t know if it happens. I don’t see any guys ready to make that jump.

In the short term what do we do? We gotta hope we have our #1s ready for next year. If we e don’t we at fucked.

Someone else said fire all of US Soccer. They aren’t wrong. The state of the entire program is a major indictment to nearly everything that transpired post-Klinsmann. He said what the federation should do, and they did just about the opposite. They used to foster hungry guys, now everyone is entitled and soft. Yes, Berhalter was a problem, but more symptom than the real illness.

I think some of the recent changes (the appointment of Brian Crocker for example) are attempts to fix things, but they’re way, way too late and also not deep enough into the core of the federation’s mission.

1) I don’t care much for the team at the moment.

2) I would like to see the list of friendlies played by Berhalter.

I much rather lose to Türkiye 🇹🇷 & Switzerland 🇨🇭 than destroy Grenada 🇬🇩 & Bermuda 🇧🇲.

I’m just glad that Argentina 🇦🇷 tied it up late in the qualifier vs Colombia 🇨🇴.

Last night was a perfect encapsulation of everything wrong with US Soccer. Players sitting out, the coach throwing a terrible lineup out there, and on top of it, charging extremely high prices for a friendly so the stands aren't full. But thank god they're maximizing revenue. Sure are making good use of that.

Going to US games, even friendlies used to be so much freaking fun. It felt like a brotherhood in some ways. I know the attendance said 20k yesterday, but color me skeptical. Can't help but thinking back to when I first really became a fan. In 2007 when we played Ecuador in a random friendly in March, 30k+ people showed up to watch it. Think about how empty the stadium would be if we were to play that game this year.

OK but isn't that a big problem in and of itself? We have precious few opportunities to actually play games together between now and the WC. Especially opportunities to play against a credible European opponent. Is the talent pool so thin that we have to waste one of those games on a bunch of guys that have no business being part of the '26 team?

WC Qualy: 2-0 over Panama

I will say, a shitty part about hosting the WC is not having qualifiers. The whole process is a roller coaster but the games actually mean something.

That's my biggest issue. We are simply squandering the precious few opportunities we have to build. This team isn't good enough to flip a switch and make a run.

Like I said, the drop off is steep from the A squad is pretty steep, but who do you want/expect?

Just assume our best 11 (debate it whatever):
Matt Turner
Antonee Robinson, Chris Richards, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Sergiño Dest
Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie, and Gio Reyna
Christian Pulisic, Folarin Balogun, Tim Weah

Of that 11

Injured (4)
Robinson, CCV, Dest, Balogun

Club World Cup (3)
McKennie, Reyna, Weah

"out" (1)
Pulisic

On the team (3)
Turner, Richards, Adams

So basically we only have 4 available to the team. What should Poch do?

Ecuador is #2, behind Argentina, in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying right now, but no one without Latin American ties could name a single person on that team.

Normally Ecuadorean fans would fill the stadium, but with Herr Stephen Miller in charge of ethnic cleansing, I don’t see those fans attending fútbol matches anytime soon.

I assume you're right. Like I said, I don't know the pool very well beyond the big names. From quick googling, it looks like Musah and Sargent also bailed and Pepi is hurt.

It's just fucking frustrating to read "well most of these guys won't sniff the roster anyway" knowing that there's only a handful of opportunities to play between now and 2026. We can't come up with 11 guys that are available, uninjured, willing to play, and have a chance in hell to make the final squad? Either, A) we can, and didn't (Poch wasting time), B) we can't (pool is paper thin and reliant on several players with questionable commitment), or C) these bums aren't as far from the final roster as people say (obviously bad).

I found this - it's pretty good.

https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/45452268/usmnt-depth-chart-ranking-top-15-position-gold-cup-analysis

Basically give Poch a little bit of a benefit of the doubt - he needs shore up the defense. Dest has Scally and that's about it. Our CBs are super thin. Jedi is alone. Tyler Adams is irreplaceable right now (despite what that article says). I think our attacking Mids are pretty deep. I get it past CP and Weah our Wingers are blah. But we have strikers (when healthy), so I like our chances. But defense is what you need to win, so ...

Quoting myself, but just saw they have a few old episodes on streaming:

I'm sure there's lots of overlap, but I'm going to be wasting some time watching and remembering the golden voice of Toby Charles!
