Yeah…

I like the idea of December, January, and February outdoor games in Chicago, Minnesota, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, New York/New Jersey, Philly, Columbus, Cincinnati, Portland, Denver, Salt Lake City, St. Louis, Kansas City

Sure… that would be wonderful. Why don’t we just kill off 1/3 of the fans that actually go to games before the season so that we don’t have to use a blow torch to separate their bodies from the seats that their corpses are frozen to when the cleaning crew comes through after the games?

I’m not sure what the answer is. The NFL seems to have figured it out. The flip side is that right now we have Houston, Dallas, and Austin playing games in July and August.

I just looked it up and the Norwegian and Swedish leagues play a summer schedule. Russia does fall-spring but with a long winter break. Maybe that’s the way to go.

The Bundesliga plays games into December and then in January. Things can be adjusted. They take a break, I think, after game 15. They can still train at their clubs during the break.

The average temperature for Chicago in December is 37/27, January 32/22, February 37/26.

The average temperature for Berlin in December is 40/32, January 38/29 and February 41/30.

I wasn't saying a complete copying of the schedule. I just think it could help transfers of players between leagues and perhaps help the MLS become better.

Football games played with snow on the field are awesome.

Soccer matches played with snow on the field are an abortion.

I hate the idea of a long mid-season break too.  Completely kills any momentum a season has.  For an up and coming pro league taking weeks off is suicidal.  The NFL is probably the only league in the USA with the clout to pull that off today.

I like the idea to synchronize the schedule with Europe. That would be good. The AppleTV thing is not great. I only watch the St. Louis games.

I may come down to the St. Louis game at Houston June 28.

Has your guy moved up to the SLC first team?

He is on the first team. Had a bit of a hamstring issue to start the season so he has not gotten in any games as of yet.

He was close to getting in Sunday in the game at Los Angeles. It will come. He’s still, I think, the youngest defender.

Thanks for asking.

The rivalry week is beginning. Tonight is KC at St. Louis.  St. Louis is reeling and in a bit of disarray and have not won in seven or eight games.

Yesterday there were four (FOUR) rivalry matches that ended…

Is anyone going Saturday in Houston?

Mikey made his season-debut last night, got a Football Sport GIF by FC Dynamo Moscow for pulling down the shorts of a guy from Orlando.

He just told me he is starting Saturday at Houston so I am going to fly down tomorrow.

Good luck to Mikey.

Fuck Houston!

Fuck Ponce, too!

He played a damned good game. They lost, 1-0. I talked to him very briefly before the game and then a bit more after. He drew blood to a Houston guy’s head in the first half but, also banged his own head pretty good. I think it was the Ponce guy Mikey banged heads with. They were both on the ground for a while.

I was in section 232 and he looked up and gave me a 👍 coming out of halftime.  Played very well and banged his head again. After the game he said he was very dizzy. He gave me his jersey and it weighed a ton and was completely soaked.

St Louis can’t score. Their midfield needs massive improvement. They lose so many possessions in the middle of the field. Still, they are playing better than they did before the coaching change.

I am glad I came. It’s a nice stadium and easy to walk to from the Marriott. Although the Astros game, and the parade, let out at the same time and traffic was a clusterfuck.  The stadium also has a nice selection of food although I got none cuz it was so damned hot.

Yeah.  It was Ponce that busted the back of his head and Ponce in the tussle earlier in the match.  Ponce will remember Wentzel for a while.

I talked to Mikey after I got back to Pittsburgh. He said he felt a lot better today. He looked completely spent after the game last night, rightfully so.

Ponce did score their goal so he has the edge.

Univision has leagues cup on tonight. Guadalajara just beat Charlotte in pens and Seattle is in the 10th minute against something called Santos Laguna. Sounders up 1-0 already.

(Santos actually has pretty good history - had never heard of them)

That game was quite CONCACAFy. Fortunately, for a competition of this magnitude, they got the very best officials from (checks notes) Jamaica and Trinidad for this match. Still enjoyed attending.

(I actually always enjoy the international matchups, and the Sounders have a decent record against Liga MX sides.)

Great game by Seattle vs Miami in Leagues Cup final. Then Miami starts a fight afterwards. Bunch of bitches, especially Suarez

IMG_8144.thumb.jpeg.1f90326a19f0cbf46a1765aa6253a57f.jpeg

Inter Miami forward Luis Suárezappeared to spit on a Seattle Sounders staffer after his team's 3-0 loss in the Leagues Cup final at Lumen Field on Sunday night.

Tempers flared at the end of the match with the two teams embroiled in a shoving match on the field after the final whistle.

As the teams began to go their separate ways, a camera caught Suárez in a heated exchange with a member of the Sounders staff and video on social media showed him lean towards the man and spit toward his face.

Miami keeper Oscar Ustaristepped between Suárez and the staffer and the parties went their separate ways.

"Unfortunately, that is going to take some of the attention away from a great performance by the Seattle Sounders," Seattle coach Brian Schmetzer said after the game. "Their players were frustrated and that led to some things happening on the field that shouldn't happen on the field.

"I'm going to shut that down, because that shouldn't be the story. The story of the game is not what happened after the game. I had a quiet moment with Messi on the field [after the game] and we talked and we tried to push it aside.

"That's the story."

Suárez was involved in an infamous incident during the 2014 World Cup in which he appeared to bite Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during the teams Group D match in Brazil.

According to a Leagues Cup spokesperson, the "Leagues Cup Organizing Committee will review the incidents at the end of the game and proceed accordingly."

The spokesperson also noted that there is no exact time regarding how long the review will take.

The Associated Press and ESPN's Cesar Hernandez contributed to this report.

Fucking Suárez. Great match; I was there and in the corner where this took place after (although from the front row in the upper deck didn't see the spit). Miami player threw a (light) punch and hit Seattle's Vargas in the face; a couple of other punches were thrown after by Miami players but I don't think they landed. TBH other than the spitting it looked like one of those goofy baseball "brawls". At halftime a Miami bench player tried to mix it up with a Sounders staffer as they were leaving the pitch; no idea what that was about. At any rate, fun match in front of 70,000, and an Argentinian #10 did end up winning the tournament's best player award. It just wasn't the guy in pink.

I just looked at the scoring and now understand why there was a melee after the match.

Look at the scoring…

IMG_8146.thumb.jpeg.fea0a27e9913b408df3d6afd5f7c15db.jpeg

Seattle started off with Dwayne de Rosario’s US-born son scoring.

Does Osaze play for Canada 🇨🇦, like his dad? NO!

Does Osaze play for the USA 🇺🇸, because he was born here? NO!

Osaze plays for GUYANA 🇬🇾… like the punch!!

IMG_8145.thumb.jpeg.30973420cbf09cb84f73fc3c1dbd2341.jpeg

So then Seattle is awarded a PK late in the game and who do they send out for the PK?

ALEX ROLDÁN !! 🇸🇻

IMG_8149.thumb.jpeg.42977ef137adf24e3cceafd5fb6bd6b4.jpeg

El Salvador’s favorite son… kind of.

I’m sure that Miami was already spitting mad over that, but then Seattle rubbed it in their faces by stamping their superiority with a former college kid journeyman who’s international career consists of ONE MEASLY APPEARANCE for the USA’s U-18 squad.

U-18 soccer is so lame that people don’t even bite each other at that level!

I mean look at that guy!

Paul fucking Rothrock!🇺🇸

🤌 🤌 🤌

You’ve gotta be kidding me!!

Of course there was a fight after the match!

Seattle was clearly taunting Miami!

lol no doubt! Rothrock is kind of a cult figure here because of exactly what you point out - he's a journeyman with a limited skill set but a bulldog; he's also from Seattle as were 2 other starters (2 others went to UW). Head coach Schmetzer, very tongue in cheek, pointed out earlier in the week that, yes, "they have Messi, but we have Paul Rothrock." The team, even more tongue in cheek, offered fans with Messi jerseys a chance to trade them in for Rothrock ones. Pretty sure they didn't actually have to provide any.... 🤣

I had never heard of Paul Rothrock before I saw that he scored.

Schmetzer is my new favorite MLS head coach!

Love that quote!

Schmetzer is a good guy; we grew up a block from each other (he's a few years older; I played with his younger brothers). His dad played in 3. Liga in Germany and was our select coach growing up; they also ran the only serious soccer gear store in town back then. Very happy to see Brian's ongoing success in his/our home town. He is an underrated coach who - like the team - prioritizes the international game and competitions on a budget 1/4 that of Miami or LAFC's.

Rothrock was balling the whole game. So much hustle. The whole Sounders team was impressive tbh especially with the takeaways and disruption of Miami’s plays. Well deserved win.
