I dont know if its Tulo or Schloss calling the offensive strategy shots but we need to start taking some early pitches and making them throw strikes.  We just swing at garbage early in the count and never put them in fastball situations.

The biggest complaint on here the last month was watching too many early pitches.

This was an extremely disappointing game, and I hope it’s not indicative of what we will see the rest of the way. We torched their ace for 4 runs in fewer than 4 innings, and then proceeded to score 1 more the rest of the way against their bullpen while striking out a gazillion times. Hope we can get the bats going a little better because if not we’re cooked. We can’t continue to give our opponents this many strikeouts

Seriously? We probably wouldve started Harrison, then gone to Grubbs, then Volantis. We probably win that game 4-1 or 4-2 if we do that. But instead we put in Walker, Saunier, Burns, then Grubbs and Volantis. They pitched their all SEC pitcher of the year stud (who we ran from the game) and went all out to win.

What could we have done different? I understand starting Ethan seemed questionable but he was nails. Then we brought in every good arm out of the pen including the FOY

Quality of pitching will drop dramatically in the regional and then steadily increase until Omaha. I am not worried about this team at all. Save the concern trolling for after we lose a regional game or barely squeak by the 4 seed.

According to the box score, no he didn’t. 1 inning, 3 hits, 2 earned runs against 6 batters.

Fuck sake dude, if we were going for the win, we wouldve gone Grubbs for 3 innings and then Volantis for 2 innings and we wouldve won 4-1/4-2. The Saunier/Burns combo isnt one you will be seeing in must win game in the postseason.

ballgame. Flores owns this loss. Fucktard.

He's frustrating me to no end. I'm starting to complain, which means he will mash going forward and bat 450 in Omaha with Zero fielding errors further proving I'm a complete fucktard regarding baseball.

You're welcome.

Thanks, forgot to address this earlier. Saunier is hit or miss as a pitcher. Schloss was seeing if he can count on him to get outs in pressure situations. He failed. We wont be seeing much of him other than an inning or two here or there in low leverage spots.

We take a bunch of early pitches. That usually ends up with us getting behind in the count because opposing teams know we're not swinging on the first pitch 99% of the time.

Tenn can pitch and they were ranked #1 for good reason.  They have great arms with elite stuff.

Bottom line, and easiest way to put it, is we didn’t give a shit about this tournament after having won the conference outright. Anything we did was to get reps and discovery going into the post season (that matters more). Still tried to win, but with a lazy dog in the hunt. Some guys got valuable playing time and the coaches got a bit of insight into things that we may need down the road.

I bet you argue with strangers on obscure Facebook topics that don’t fucking matter. Saunier didn’t do his job and Jalin made it worse.

neither he nor Burns are the go to’s in a must win game. They will back fill with a lead or when we give up in a game strategically unless we have to use them. We didn’t have to use either of them today.

I'd like to see what we did with the left hander that came in today.  it seemed like we were swinging early pitches at shit out of the zone.  every once in a while a batter would get to 2-0 and then immediately start swinging at shit out of the zone.

Oh fuck off, I’m not concern trolling. We’ve been disappointing at the plate for the entire month of May. We can’t continue to strikeout this much if we want to win

Stats don’t lie bro. He still gave up the hits, and took 2 earned runs in 3 outs of pitching. The error on Jalin leaves the other runs out of it.

Dude had 1 inning of work and you are acting like he got screwed after a 4 inning shutout performance. Dude was getting hit around. 3 hits, 2 runs, on 6 faced batters is no bueno.

Shit, someone should tell last year's aggies about that then. They made the championship after a similar finish to us.

It’s not why we lost but we wouldn’t have lost had we pitched like we had to win. That shows Schloss knew we could win without using up Grubbs.  Shit’s nuanced, your better than your comment.

Of course we tried but not like it really fucking mattered. Let’s put it this way, it’s game one in Omaha, you really think the pitching decisions are the same? We got lucky with Ethan and Schloss didn’t change his approach at all, he pitched the B team until it was late then he put in Grubbs and Volantis in the 8th+ to see if we could hold TN and offense and defense our way to a win. We almost did. But game one in Omaha, assuming the starter does the same, the pen rotation looks MUCH different. And likely the score is 4-1 in the 8th when Volantis comes in to close. Instead it was 4-4. Yes Flores but there is no argument Schloss handled the pen like this game was optional in middle innings - which it was. That’s just not debatable.

And honestly except for Harrison who probably coulda used a pressure 4 innings this weekend, it worked out great. Ruger gets to rest he seems like a tired arm, Grubbs and Volantis got meaningful innings but we didn’t ride them hard and now we get ready for the regionals with the possibility that Ethan is a guy we can go to. I’m just not that upset here.

Ethan Walker allowed 2 base runners. The only reason they were earned is because a score keeper is never going to assume a double play.

You want to know who the top 4 bullpen arms in terms of innings pitched were in conference play this season? Grubbs, Volantis, Burns, and Saunier. Some of yall just don’t pay attention.

Ethan Walker was the only wildcard of the day and he shut them down

I know burns pitches a lot. I don’t think in the 5th he goes to him or saunier, I don’t. Not game one in Omaha. I could be wrong. You get 5 from your starter in game one it’s Grubbs then Volantis. Game two is different but you still go to Volantis. Shit there are weekends that’s exactly what Schloss did, starter, Grubbs, Volantis. Ethan went deep enough for Schloss to do exactly that, he didn’t. Why? Not a must win. Just because they have the most inning pitched (behind the others) doesn’t mean they are first up in a situation where you only need 4 inning of pitching to win.

Yeah an 83 mph fastball is pretty hard to blow by people. Point being he was effective. Only arm that we threw today that we haven’t relied on was Ethan Walker and from a production standpoint he performed the best.

Im not worried about the loss at all, just blows my mind the shit that people make up

Didn’t make anything up. You have the lead 4-0 and it’s the 5th inning with runners on. Grubbs, Burns, Saunier, and Volantis are fully rested. Pick who pitches 4+ innings. You win and you are two wins from a title and Harrison and Riojas are fully rested too.

I’m going Grubbs 2.2-3.1 and Volantis the rest of the way. And it saves both of them for the rest of the weekend.

I’m just messing with you.

There’s nothing to worry about based on today.  It’s a tourney format that’s nothing like any other.  Matchups and tourney format dictate your pitching choices.

Theres not much talk about UTenn not going all out to win yesterday since they didn’t start their #1.

We can go down the hypothetical rabbit hole all day long, it goes nowhere. A Regional, Super Regional, and the CWS are all different. If you host a Regional you often get a Tuesday night opponent so you can pitch off. A Super Regional is a traditional 3 game series. In Omaha you get days off

As far as your hypothetical two wins from a title, it’s not even possible to have a fully rested Riojas and Harrison even with the off days unless one of them got blown up in their start and yanked early so you could use them later. In that event we are likely in the losers bracket

Flores booted a double play, and the bullpen didn’t have their best. On to the regional. That simple

Unless we were trying to get into the big tournaments, I have never given a solitary fuck about conference tournaments, basketball or baseball.

I liked getting some guys some high leverage moments. I would have enjoyed laughing at this hick conference if we won both the trophies. But I have been thinking about next weekend since the moment this conf tournament started.

based on today I don't see that happening unless he injured his non-injured hand.  I'm wondering if he needs surgery but they told him he couldn't really injure it more and it was a pain tolerance issue.

I haven't seen the details of what his injury actually is, though.
