that’s such an obvious red card, we couldn’t even get 15 minutes into the season without a refereeing/var controversy.

Don’t worry; Howard Webb will tell us on Monday how Taylor didn’t want to ruin the game or spoil the spectacle or some shit.

the officiating in the arsenal vs united game was typically atrocious. the game started with zubimendi getting a clearly thrown forearm into his head and neck with no call, continued with man u repeatedly getting away with overtly physical, american football style fouls, and ended with man u not getting a penalty when they should have, followed by dermot gallagher mumbling and stumbling his way through insisting that there was no foul at all.

all of that excitement and emotion that had built up for the start of the season was just instantly deflated from my body by the terrible, spineless officiating which has come to define this league. the absolute worst.

first weekend result certainly does not portend a big change for everton this season but we do debut a new stadium this weekend. good comprehensive video of the new digs.

it’s so funny how when arsenal won four fa cups and four community shields those were small time trophies not worth celebrating, and arsenal were still losers for not winning either of the two “real” trophies. now the goddamn carabao cup and the alphabet soup tournament have the exact same crowd pounding their chests and beaming with pride and talking mad shit about how amazing it is to win those second and third tier trophies. funny how that works.

arsenal wins the fa cup 3/4 years and 5/8 years and it’s not a big deal, it’s a lesser-than trophy, we have nothing to celebrate. y’all literally made fun of us for having a parse in 2014. during that run in 2014 we beat tottenham, everton, and liverpool; in 2015 we beat man u and then blanked villa 4-0 in the final; in 2017 we beat city in the semis and chelsea in the final, then in 2020 we did the exact same thing, and how did this board/epl fans at large react?

tottenham does this:

and what is the reaction from the very same people who downplayed four fa cups?

the fact that y’all invented this whole “you haven’t won a trophy in five years, how embarrassing!!!!” thing out of thin air at the very moment that other clubs were winning their first (tiny, unimportant) trophies in decades (or ever) says so much more about you as a person than it does about anyone/anything arsenal related. every single time you guys make these jokes and then look around and high five each other you’re just making yourself look like a flaky, goalpost moving dumbass. just fyi.

I couldn't give a shit about the cups we won this past year, granted the cash we got for the club world cup is fantastic.

Put up or shut up year for Mikel. Close to £1.1bn spent once Eze goes through. They also haven’t sold anyone worth a shit. Club record sale is still £35mn for Oxlade-Chamberlain in 2017.

The fact Arsenal haven't sold anyone worth more than $35m is a pretty good indication of where the club was 5 years ago.   Im pretty sure the only player left is Saka and he was 17 then.    They have sold what they could for the most part, Emi Martinez Ramsdale, Leno and Turner sold off for $~45m and brought in Raya and Kepa for $37.   Sold off Smith Rowe, Balogun, Nketiah, Taveres, Willock, Xhaka for around $120M.   The rest was dead weight, and of the guys they sold none other than Emi are good enough to start on a top 4 team.

lol, people on this forum seriously act like arteta is in hot water. “put up or shut up year”. as if winning the fa cup in his first year, taking over an arsenal team that was in shambles and out of europe with no valuable players to sell and turning that into a team that’s finished second three years in a row, a team that is now chock full of some of europe’s most valuable players, a team that just got done trouncing real madrid on its way to a very impressive ucl semifinal run, and most importantly and notably, taking a team that regularly lost 8-2, 6-1, and 4-0 to the “big six” and turned it into this:

IMG_0018.thumb.jpeg.d29283fca1f007abfd74cb644b0597b2.jpeg

is “literally nothing impressive”. i don’t know how to break this to y’all, but arteta is in as much hot water at arsenal as sark is at Texas, and this season for Arteta is as much of a “put up or shut up” year for arteta as this UT football season is for Sark. in fact in fact Sark is probably the best analog for arteta in all of world sports. but yeah, he’d better win the league lest he be fired!!! lol.

i would pay money if i could somehow get through all of your thick candy shells and allow you to see for yourselves how insanely petty and delusional y’all sound when you say that arteta has done nothing impressive at arsenal, or insinuate that his job is even remotely in trouble. it’s 100% crazy talk.

if you just went by reading these boards you’d swear that arsenal fc is insane for not having already fired arteta, and that tottenham was insane to sack ange because tRoPHi3z!!!!! i cannot even explain to you how vastly superior arsenal is now compared to where we were when arteta took over, beyond which is the fact that 85% of our squad are in/approaching their early prime and are locked down long term. literally only a PL or CL title could make his first five years here any better. we are the absolute inverse of what we were when he showed up, and thank god.

when he showed up, every match against the likes of city, chelsea, and united felt like an inevitable bloodbath, a match that we had zero shot in. now those teams can’t even beat us for years running, and im supposed to be upset with mikel arteta, and he’s supposedly under pressure this year, as if it’s a zero sum game where only trophies matter. i can’t count the number of y’all whom i otherwise respect, who have gone full retard when it comes to downplaying anything gnat arsenal/arteta does. full retard.

also no i’m not done. you make a great point about Chambo being our largest ever sum for a player sold. that’s how it was before arteta. we not only lost our best players in their prime (cesc, nasri, rvp, song, vermaelen, that’s literally three consecutive club captains leaving arsenal in their prime), the good players we did sign (santi, alexis, ozil, auba, laca, etc) were all losing value by the minute from the time that we signed them. it was the stupidest model for winning you could imagine. i still don’t know how wenger was so unrelentingly successful under those circumstances.

but look at us now. saliba, gabriel, saka, rice, odegaard, raya, martinelli, MLS, nwaneri, dowman, et al. all of them will either stay here through their entire primes, and/or be sold for 5x, 10x, 50x what we paid for them. i would never in a million billion years trade what arteta has done for this club and its future for an alphabet soup cup trophy. you guys have completely lost the plot, but you’ve given me every reason to talk about how amazingly better everything is at arsenal since arteta took over, and for that, i thank you.

£1.1bn spent with Saka, Saliba, and Martinelli already at the club and 1 Covid FA cup trophy to show for it is a pretty terrible ROI. Arsenal haven’t even made a cup final appearance in any competition the last 5 seasons.

Well twitter has tons of Arsenal “fans” bitching about Arteta, but it’s 95% headed up by bluecheck engagement farmers and trolls.   None of the non click bait Arsenal fans are remotely Arteta out.  Arteta has his issues but he isn’t getting canned after 3 straight second places finishes to teams that were clearly better each of the three years, add to the fact that despot the injuries they had an I,proved champions league performance.

They’ve spent a billion dollars and haven’t won anything. That is the definition of “nothing impressive”.

Everytime you post that about how long since they lost to a big 6 team it further proves the point of how unimpressive Arteta’s reign has been. Klopp did plenty of losing to other big 6 teams. No one gave a shit because the goal isn’t to see how long you can go getting draws.

Kenny Dalglish in his second stint at Liverpool won as many trophies as Arteta.
