They’ve earned a lot more benefit of the doubt, but we shouldn’t overlook that the defense got their asses handed to them today by a moribund offense averaging 11 points a game. 457 yards and 29 points, with 7.0 yards per play. We get the game down to one score and they give up a 55-yard TD pass. Just awful across the board today.

Said it early in the game thread but what Florida was doing with its passing game, especially in the 1H reminded me a lot of the 2023 game against a moribund Houston team.  We were playing off and they were smartly running a lot of short routes across the field, letting Lagway get completions to guys on the move, eat yards, keep the chains moving etc.

Florida ran the ball a lot better than UH did that day.

Yep, after LSU and Miami throttled the UF offense by pressuring Lagway all day.

Maybe it stopped happening but it seemed like our vaunted LBs were the problem early, taking bad lanes, getting gummed up.

The defense has regressed as a whole.  Bad at tackling, bad angles, out of position on the edge, also the DBs suck.

Never a believer in PK, but even he should be able to scheme a better defense against a bad UF team.

Our LB’s were having trouble early because our Dline was getting their ass blown off the ball.

Some of that, some of it also that the interior D linemen are often eating nobody so those LBs have more blockers getting to the second level type traffic to deal with.

Meh. PK has done pretty well overall sans 2021. The defense couldn’t carry the team today as it has the last 1.5 seasons. Steve is the primary problem

Indeed.  There are no bad regiments, only bad colonels.

People keep pointing to the OL.
That's a symptom, the illness is the entire offensive game plan and coaching top to bottom.
Fixing the OL won't fix the rest of the issues.

Let’s be real here, fixing the OL would go a looooong way towards looking competitive

Something just doesnt add up. No way this coaching staff looked at what we had in the offense (o line, arch, rbs, everything) and agreed they were all set

Is our coaching staff that freaking regarded?

Could it be that we gave our defense too much credit ie “man our offense struggled in practice but that’s because ewe have an elite D”

Nope. This was the worst performance by the defense since ‘23 Oklahoma or ‘23 Washington(Penix had the game of his life against our avg at best secondary). This was game was an outlier performance for PK.

IMO they were due to have a down game. We have had to rely on them so much the past few years.

7 wins?  How we getting there?  Florida is bad.

The Oline is the biggest problem, by far, personnel wise but the coaching is right there with them.  At some point, before the 5th game of the season, you must understand your personnel and what you are working with and call plays they have a chance to execute.  Sark is not doing that.

am I crazy, or does it seem like the other teams in Texas took one look at the landscape of college football, and decided to really get serious about their rosters, while we kinda just sat pat? too much of the Mack Brown, We're Texas era of player acquisition vibes this offseason. I mean, don't look, but Tech just got a commitment from the #1 rated DL for 2027.

You are probably crazy.

But awesome Texas players being recruited by other programs and biting us in the ASS seems to be the standard.

Hell, Mahomes would have been one hell of a safety at Texas, amirite?

PKs crew has been aces the last three years

And this year?

This is meaningless.  The D is not good.  What has PK done for us lately?

Someone with Twitter/X needs to send one to CDC and tell him we aren't happy with the product on the field. The man actually reads and listens to the fans. I would, but, uh, I'm kind of banned. Long story.

I did that very thing earlier.

Rumor that Flood and Sark don’t see eye to eye.

Sark is the fucking boss. If it’s his fault they’re trotting out that bullshit because he is overriding Flood, then he needs to be fired.

If he’s letting Flood trot that shit out and not fucking with him, they both need to be fired.

Held tosu to 14?

Kind of proving the point, there.  The D is regressing, or they were just pumped for the opener.

The O is playing to form.

One bad game and it’s not like they dropped 40.  Maybe if our offense could sustain a drive or two?  You know run the ball?

Shut the fuck up about the OSU game. It’s abundantly clear now that OSU figured out that Texas was fraudulent and played a hyper conservative game plan. OSU was happy to sit in 12 personal and protect their young QB because they only needed to score 14 given how awful our offensive. We had success running the ball because OSU was happy to sit back and protect the deep shots and force Texas drive the field which it can’t do.

If we go 7-5 or worse this season, what would need to happen in order for Sark to get canned next year. Bc no matter what happens this year even if they lost every game, he’s not going anywhere.

Barring a scandal? Mind he wins less than 25 games over the next three seasons he’s in trouble

I promise that I try my best not to be reactionary after games like this.  It's understood that inevitably as a fan we will face frustration and angst, especially as we move towards the top of the pile where teams are more evenly matched on the athletic front.  However, as I watched our team go out on the field and look like an overmatched, clumsy, weak, dumb, pile of steaming shit on both sides of the ball today, it was really disappointing.  We looked like Mack Brown Texas Football against Big Game Bob circa 2000-2004.  They were more physical than us, they were more intentional than us, they were better coached than us, they were superior to us in every way.  Their running backs were balls of muscle that took multiple hits and guys to bring down.  Their linemen on both sides rag-dolled our "large humans" with regularity.  Their team came to play.

Perhaps the most disheartening thing was watching us trot out the exact same offensive scheme in the second half that didn't work in the first.  We changed out some players, sure, but our coaches didn't seem to know how to change their plans to accommodate what they were seeing with their own eyes.  We started the second half with a drive that was indistinguishable from the drives in the first half.  I'm not talking about playcalling.  I'm talking about philosophy.  Same formations, same play designs, just different players and the hope that "this time, it'll work."

Even Napier's brain farts and Arch actually looking like a QB couldn't bring us back from the brink.  We flat out sucked today.  I hope there is some major soul-searching on Sark's part, because whatever people like Flood and Banks are selling him isn't working.  We gave up a blocked punt for a safety.  We punted from inside field goal range twice (what's up with that?  Did Sideshow Bert scar us or something?  Or is our kicker injured?).  Our offensive line has been unable to move people for years now.  Yes we've run the ball successfully, but when was the last time we were able to move the defensive line in a critical moment when they knew we were coming?  Alabama in 2023?

This team is at a crossroads and every single individual from Sark down to the walk-ons needs to decide how they are going to approach their craft going forward, because otherwise this is going to be a long, long season.

Banks has to go

I didn't see it, but per IT Sark had a quote in his PC that was something like "I thought we did well with penalties". I read it about five times to make sure I was reading it correctly.

We're focusing on oline here but point to those 3rd downs as well.
