I'm in and also would watch Ethan Hawke doing a True Detective or Fargo.  Somebody needs to make it happen.

I think Fargo would be a better fit. He’s obviously great in a Coen-esque show.

True Detective has hitched their wagon to the profoundly overrated Issa Lopez.

Ethan Hawke could bring the same mesmerizing dynamic that Woody Harrelson or a Stephen Dorff character had.  He's his own dude, but I definitely enjoy him in this Coen-esque role, operating between earnest and levity. Sterlin Harjo is carrying Hulu right now.

Have you eaten at the Coney I-lander?  I gotta try it next time I’m in Tulsa unless it sucks.
Definitely try Coney I-lander which has been around almost 100 years.  I grew up eating at the Southroads location on 41st as my grandparents lived a few blocks away.  If Guadaloopy says try Ike's, I'd try that too.

I'm a little behind and just started watching the episode where Dinklage shows up.

As soon as I saw him, I started laughing, and he doesn't disappoint.  He is so good.

I enjoyed the realistic depiction of modern oklahoma in the opening of the most recent episode

The cities stopped doing landrun reenactments a while back. My family moved to a Tulsa suburb on the mid 90s and it never happened while I was in school and I never even heard of them until I was full grown. Probably still happens in the sticks tough. I’m sorta surprised they haven’t mandated them back into existence but to be honest the new wave of racist shit is more direct than landrun reenactments. I do like that the show is honest about the good people around here and the complexities of history. What a damn cliffhanger though.

I liked the show, didn’t like the ending.

Spoiler

I’m not familiar with Harjo. Is a super tidy, cheery ending his style? All the bad guys die. Donald does the right thing. The Natives get their land back. Samantha marries a man that makes her happy. Lee bonds with his daughter. Feels like a Harjo dream board more than an actual ending. Does he write solo without notes like Sheridan?

I like how the show came full circle. Hangout show to murder mystery back to hangout show.

Felt like a love letter to Tulsa. I can respect that.

One Dinklage episode was a bit of a letdown. It was by far the strongest episode. It’s a great show that everybody is talking about with Dinklage in 5-6 episodes. I think it’ll end up being a modest hit for FX. Dinklage should get nominated for an Emmy in the guest star category, and Hawke should get nominated for staring role. Especially if it’s in the limited series grouping.

We did one in 5th grade, but that was a tiny one in the playground as part of a history lesson for the 100th anniversary.

looks like i'll miss the finale tonight because of the youtube/disney bullshit.  cool.

that was the best episode of the season.  loved it. seems like a good chunk of it filmed at the philbrook.  was nice to see the douchebag governor come around. agreed with the poster above that dinklage was outstanding in his role.

I really enjoyed the series. Feels like a role Ethan Hawke was born to play. The whole thing felt like a fun pulp novel. His daughter was pretty impressive. She played Fern on the Star Wars show Skeleton Crew and is going be the new slayer in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel series. Her career is really picking up. I hope the 2nd season is another Hawke/Keith David team up.

Finally got the the finale. Great show. I know I’m biased but it felt like a cool noir for anyone not just locals like me looking in the background.

I wasn’t sure for a while if the politics were meant to resemble actual stuff here but the end sealed it. Donald Washburn is inspired by current Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond who is running for Governor. His family collectively owns a ton of Osage County (Killers of the Flower Moon location) and he’s taken heat for the family history. The Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond married into the family. They aren’t giving any land back but Drummond has campaigned on respecting tribal sovereignty unlike current Gov. Kevin Stitt. Im not a huge fan but he’d be better at Governor than the other realistic candidates.

The acting was terrific. The girl that plays Francis is so good. She’s apparently currently in a movie currently filming here in in Tulsa called The Road to Recovery with Freddie Printz Jr. the season ended the whole story so no idea if these characters will get a second season but I’d watch for sure.

Also, the white supremacist compound is based on Ehlohim City which Leeroy Chapman visited and wrote about.

Isn’t Stitt a Cherokee or Choctaw?

surlin is an outlier in the Hollywood trade in that he’s not looking for endless sequels.  He ended Rez Dogs when he decided he had finished telling the story he wanted to tell.  Me as the consumer wanted to watch those kids grow up over the next ten years and get more insight into tribal society.  So in this case we don’t know if he’s one and done or looking to start shooting his next story with these characters.

Yes, he's a card carrying Cherokee. I've never bothered to research the truth but the allegation is that his ancestors were also white (or mostly white) and bought their way into the tribe. Plenty of white people also married into tribes and received allotments and were placed individually on the rolls of varoius tribes. He's nevertheless been at war with the tribes for most of his tenure which is fucking absurd. Markwayne Mullin is also a card carrying Cherokee. He's not as hostile but hasn't pushed back too much on Stitt. He's also the one who referred to the Trail of Tears as a "voluntary march." There is some history there he might have been referring to but his characterization is still insulting.

I liked the Betty Jo karaoke at the very end. She's not a good person but also complex.

Spoiler

If you watched Rez Dogs, then yes, Harjo does appear to have a knack for cheesy happy endings. The only part of the ending that felt a little off was the idea that Donald was really that far out of the loop and that the fact that he's actually Pearl's father is just left hanging out there as though it wouldn't become a major scandal at some point.

I enjoyed it.  A little slow, and came off as wanting to be "True Detective" at a few points, but I actually appreciated the somewhat tight bow at the end. As happy of an ending as you can have. Really found the land stories interesting (and a bit hard to watch) because that's pretty much exactly how it used to get told in South Texas re: the acquiring of land for the King Ranch. First thing that came to mind as that part of the story unwound.
