His show cause expires tomorrow.  Anyone tracking flights from LA to Michigan yet?

I recently saw the Minter "show cause" expiration discussion on a CFB podcast... comments were it expires in April/May of 2026 not Dec 2025.

Yahoo had similar report...

There is one major impediment to the hiring of Minter, and that is the show-cause penalty he received due to impermissible recruiting violations and a lack of reporting of violations. The one-year show-cause penalty was enacted in the spring of 2025, meaning that Michigan would either need to show a reason to hire Minter or wait for the penalty to expire in the spring of 2026.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A DeKalb County, Alabama judge has issued an order blocking the National Collegiate Athletic Association from enforcing coaching restrictions against former Tennessee Head Football Coach Jeremy Pruitt.

Pruitt was fired from the University of Tennessee in January 2021 “for cause” after an investigation into reports that Pruitt and/or his staff violated the NCAA’s rules against benefits for players and recruits. On July 14, 2023, the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions released its Public Infractions Decision concerning Pruitt and the university, and it prescribed a six-year show-cause order against him.

Nah, theyll extend dillingham at asu and make him a top 10 highest paid coach

I think the last number I read was a little under 6 million. It seems he’s good with that along with better assistant pay and facilities upgrades. I guess that’s alright and his family live in his neighborhood. If that is what brings him happiness good on Dillingham. I obviously would like him to stick around and make ASU into a top 15 team each year. That seems doable if there is money to be spent on, oh I don’t know, GOOD OFFENSIVE LINEMEN. Not sure how Raleek Brown did as well as he did this past season with that line in front of him.

I just noticed that Stan Drayton hooked up with South Carolina.
A few on the board wanted Sark to bring him back for our brief RB coach opening.

"Beamer hired TCU offensive coordinator Kendal Briles earlier this week, as well as offensive line coach Randy Clements (TCU) and assistant head coach and running backs coach Stan Drayton (Penn State)."

Embarrassing that TCU ever brought Briles in and Frogs got an under the radar replacement that appears legit.  Picked up Gordon Sammis from UConn who’s had great offenses the last few years.

Curious if any coach right now with any other options would seriously engage in conversations with Michigan until a few things get resolved concerning their athletic department.

Will be very interesting to see how much Sonny allows Gordo to depart from the Leach offense family tree.

Double Spartan grad so unless a Michigan coach has been stalking her, which isn't completely out of the question based upon their recent track record, I don't see her getting involved anytime soon.

I don’t think it’s about money. He’s going to get paid regardless. It all depends on his goals and whether or not he can achieve them at ASU or if he needs to go elsewhere.

You’d think the corporate NIL opportunities in Phoenix are as good as anywhere, so unless ASU isn’t getting the support then he should be able to get the dudes he needs. Heck, he made the playoffs with a bunch of guys Texas didn’t want.

I hope he stays but when a Michigan comes calling you listen.

This part is something I am not certain really matters anymore and I’m not really saying this in regards to Dillingham. There is a sea change with NIL and more schools can compete right now if they spend money or at least spend it wisely.

Do I think he has gotten what his agent asked the administration for? Sure. He probably got more than he asked for when it comes to assistant pay and facilities being modernized. It’s all a process though and were I him right now I’d just be surveying the landscape and taking bits and pieces from how similar schools with very little in the way of football success are conducting themselves. I’d guess he’s already doing that. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but yes being in Phoenix is a big help. The school having a reputation of being fun as far as the student experience helps. I’m content to just watch him do his thing.

He keeps winning? Awesome. He doesn’t? That’s okay too. At least he’ll have tried if he stays long-term and makes ASU into a playoff team annually, especially as the bracket gets bigger and easier to make.

I’d also posit that if he stays long-term that the road to a playoff berth is significantly easier in the BIG XII. Tech will be good every year and we’re good for one school having a weak schedule and winning more than they should(BYU this year and aggy in the SEC are examples of this). ASU should never be below 2nd or 3rd so long as there is competent play at QB. This is like being in the WCC in basketball all those years where it was just Gonzaga or St. Mary’s winning the conference. The rest of the schools were just kinda there for the most part. The Big XII, in football at least, is close to that. It’d be great if Cougar High or TCU could consistently get it together. It’s still a basketball conference first and that’s okay. I guess for now I’m good with it being Tech, ASU and some jags on the football side of things until other schools take the sport seriously.

I think saying ASU should consistently be in the top 3 in the conference is overstating their standing in the conference.

That said, Dillingham isn’t going anywhere.  He loves Phoenix/Tempe.  His family is there.  His kid’s best friend is his nephew or niece who live there.  If you’re happy somewhere, truly happy, you don’t leave hoping you MIGHT be happy somewhere else.

You sure don't leave for the high-pressure madhouse that Michigan has become.  They are going to expect an immediate turnaround and whoever enters that crucible is going to be expected to get into the CFP immediately and oh yeah, beat OSU every year.   And they clearly have no interest in cleaning house.

I wouldn’t want that mess, but I’m not a football coach. I enjoy having a normal life. You take that job then you better be ready to deal with craziness every single day.

BYU played 6 of the top 9 teams in the Big 12(all had winning records in conf)...the problem is the conference sucks.  BYU's SOS was much better than Tech's. they scheduled Stanford and East Carolina(not P4 but a team that could beat you if you don't show up)

aggy played 2 teams in the top 9 of the SEC.

Past performance is no longer indicative of what should be expected. If past performance or reputation played a role in whether you SHOULD be good or not the we should be down there with Coach Prime in the gutter. Pre-NIL is what it is. ASU was a non-factor. ASU has benefitted most from Dillingham being an alum, but, and this is important, there is no UT or OU standing there to beat you up. It’s now just Tech. I hope they spend a ton of money and one day win the whole thing. I think in an era where money is out in the open that ASU should never be below 2nd or 3rd. If we were in the SEC we’re toast, but we’re not. This is a conference we can and should be good in football-wise. It’d be nice if basketball could be good, but not so much with Hurley and also because this is a basketball-driven league and there are schools who put their money on that sport instead which is fine. I’m all for handing as much money to the players as possible at every school.

Playing six of the top nine in a conference where basketball is the thing does not really matter. They had two games against an elite team. They put up 14 points combined in two games. They are not good at football. They’re a school that will surprise you sometimes, but not all the time. The conference is just not good overall at football and that’s something ASU can take advantage of. Maybe not to Tech’s extent, but being below 3rd would be a disappointing season. I’d put that label on this season, but I’ll qualify that getting 8 wins from a team with no one playing QB for half the year made 8 or possibly 9 wins fine this year.

Ok I really thought you were doing a bit, but really? What do you think ASUs status is and has been? I looked and before last season your only NY6 (as we used to call them) bowl was 1996. A whole bunch of mediocrity between. Where are you getting that ASU is doing better in NIL than everyone but Tech? Your QB is bolting likely for better NIL. And mocking TCU? They played in a national title game just a few years ago. I also saw you say “as long as we have a good QB” . . . no shit Sherlock.

The current BIG 12 will have nobody who “should” be top 2 or 3 every year except maybe tech if Campbell keeps burning money on one year mercinary contracts and I’ll bet good money that they have some down years from time to time. If you really think that your conference mates are all just gonna lay down for . . . ASU . . . I mean, wtaf? The commitment is there at all the schools now and there’s literally nothing special about ASU. Saying everyone else sucks is so damn asinine.

My alma mater beat ou two of the last three and beat Notre Dame in the Fiesta bowl two years ago. Played in two of the last three conference championship games before OU and Texas left.  Gundy screwed up NIL and is now gone and we made a good hire who’s going to bring with him a good qb. Dillingham’s a good coach but bro calm down.

It’s the Big 12. Seems like after Tech threw down the money gauntlet, the rest of conference is in flux year to year. AZ State seems like the best candidate to keep a foothold in that top 3 range considering the coaching turmoil at Utah and KState.

Dykes won with Patterson’s players, Klieman retired. Okie State in full rebuild. Cincy has Scott Satterfield. Utah just lost its coach. Deion is going to have to overhaul again. Leopold seems like he topped out. Iowa State replaced its coach. WVA has a ton of limitations. AZ seems a step behind ASU. Baylor kept Aranda.

Believe me I’m no ASU honk. But after Tech and BYU they seem like they’re in the best shape right now

Sure, for now. They should have an advantage next season. He’s saying like top 2-3 every year for eternity…because everyone else sucks. That’s just some shocking arrogance from a fan of a middling program like ASU. Especially on surly where most outsiders are pretty honest and straightforward about this stuff.

Okie State is now just a team on the schedule. Just how it goes. You had your turn at being good. It doesn’t last forever. ASU will be well-positioned for a good while, but not forever. I have found people do not like when you say things as straightforward as that about something they are emotionally invested in, but it is what it is.

No, just do not find OSU to be relevant right now. I say exactly what I think. I always have. OSU football is now on one of the bottom rungs. Again I find that people do not like what they are emotionally invested in to hear someone say something they do not like. I have just never cared about things like this. We’re good right now and five years from now we might not have Dillingham and we might get to go back to being everyone’s homecoming opponent like you are at the moment. You have a deeper emotional and likely monetary investment than I do on this stuff. You look at the current landscape and see it differently than me and that’s okay.

I've always wondered... What exactly does "show a reason" mean? What other reason could there be other than "we have an opening at head coach, he's willing to take it"? Has there ever been a successful hiring of a coach on a show-cause where a school successfully "showed a reason" to hire him?
