Jake Smith looks on film like he's a wee bit faster than the guys chasing him. That's a good thing, right? Just checking.

Yet another thread derailment but maybe not since she's a great liaison recruiting-wise, but muthahustla uses the longhorn logo on a lot of bags and t-shirts she sells. I can assume CDC is aware but it seems strange since we've been known to shut even the smallest of infringements down (hook em sign donut, for christs sake). I wonder if she pays the royalties or something.

Bold statement.

Another CB in for Jake Smith, from an Arizona writer. Also, Smith's twitter background is a picture of him in DKR in a Texas jersey with "Smith" on the back.

Look man. I don't make the rules; i just follow them. The shag had clearly defined rules for this sort of thing and if Machinator gets to break the rules, we'll all break the rules. It'll be anarchy!

Just watched Jake's HUDL highlights for the second time. Sweet Jesus, that kid is really, REALLY good and really, REALLY fast.

Yeah, he doesn't NOT score a touchdown until the 8 minute mark.

As opposed to the orderly processes we see being observed every day here on the Surl?  From now on I want you all to call me "The Right Honorable Gentleman from Little River" when you address me.

I think he's more Christian McCaffrey 2.0 than Shipley 3.0.

That link was a flashback.

Think it's fixed now.

Oh please.  Everyone out here is now saying Smith is all UT.  All I provide is what we hear at the moment out here.  He loved Austin, loved the college town feel, that doesn't negate what I posted earlier, that USC was a dream school, kids say that stuff all the time, wear their team gear, then fall in love with another program.  Kids out here are falling in love with UT.  That's why there is no such thing as a lock.
the last thing I worry about is skilled player recruitment for USC,  this early in the game, as in previous years, USC always start slow to end top 5.
i have zero animosity, or ill wishes toward UT, USC will get who they're meant to get, as you will. Both programs will end with top 5 recruiting classes.

That's a surprisingly rational take on recruiting..

You definitely aren't aggy.

I guess ESPN and Rivals can't be bothered to rate him? Rivals has no rating but I couldn't even find a page for him on ESPN.   Based on his hudl, he has a very good frame, good burst, and already can hold his own in the run game. He does a good job of keeping his pad level and using his long arms to leverage OL and stonewall them in the run game.

I did find this sec country article on him while looking for his ratings.  https://www.seccountry.com/arkansas/arkansas-football-recruiting-zach-williams  It appears he is going to have quite a few more big time offers in the coming months. We seem to be in a good position for him, and we were definitely one of the first big time schools to offer/recruit him (sorry TCU). This was a good eval by the staff to throw our hat in the ring relatively early for him.

Arkansas target Zach Williams pushing commitment timetable back

Arkansas defensive end target Zach Williams is having a tough time settling on a commitment decision. As soon as he nears being ready, more top programs have made offers, giving him something else to think about.

Williams (6-foot-4, 225 pounds) has offers from more than 10 Power 5 programs, including six SEC schools. He’s been offered by Alabama, Baylor, Florida, Georgia, TCU, Tennessee and Texas just in the past five weeks.

So, is he anywhere near being ready to commit with the offers continuing to come?

“That’s getting to be a very difficult question to answer,” Williams recently told SEC Country. “So many new schools are showing interest. Like Notre Dame, Stanford, Auburn and others. I had planned on committing sometime in May, but I am going to push that back until later this summer.”

Williams is near the top of Arkansas’ Class of 2019 priority list. He’s one of eight in-state recruits the Hogs have offered, all of which are major targets.

A pledge to Arkansas from Williams would deepen the Razorbacks’ connection to his high school — Joe T. Robinson in Little Rock. Arkansas has three players on its current roster from Robinson — running back T.J. Hammonds, wide receiver Koilan Jackson and defensive end David Porter. According to Hammonds, there’s no doubt Williams will be following their path.

“I’m making it my personal goal to get him here,” Hammonds said. “If you’re in the Robinson family, you come to Arkansas. We’re going to make it happen.”

Williams’ father, Rickey, played linebacker for Arkansas (1984-87) and ranks No. 8 on the school’s career tackles list. His family connection to the program and an established Robinson crew already on campus makes Arkansas the most likely option when he’s ready to make a decision on his future.

And as I put in the article, there are plenty of other major variables in this. I didn't say there was a causation. I just said there is a correlation and that it's interesting. Also I know if Brown was being lazy recruiting back in 2002-2007.

One thing not touched upon is the difference in accessibility to information for more than rudimentary evaluation. HUDL did not exist in the MB days. I mean, how many could reasonably expect access to tape from a California athlete even 5 years ago? Near costless access to information on all levels makes recruiting a lot less dependent on (or limited by) regional specialization and networking. It cuts both ways too. Jake Smith sitting at home has a lot more opportunities to evaluate the fit at a place like Texas before taking an OV.

The who-you-know is certainly important, as evidenced by Strong's reach into Florida (and Louisville ['thanks for Poona']), Beck's ties to AZ and Herman's to CA. The growth of the camps and 7-on-7 clearly contribute as well, but yeah, this should be the new norm for us to get the best talent available.

Are the Longhorns she uses burnt Orange? A lot of businesses use similar logos...and Fort Worth (where MH lives) cop cars have a Longhorn head logo as well. It's not exactly the same as UT, but pretty close.

Seriously, I just watched for the first time. I don't want to be lazy and throw out a Christian McAffrey reference, but he is kind of that Percy Harvin play everywhere type. Holy shit that would be a huge get.

I take offense to that sir. It's by no means lazy, it's stereotypical.

Update on Kenyon Green from EJ:

Spoiler

Kenyon Green is getting ready to make cuts.

The five-star offensive lineman out of Humble Atascocita is in the process of setting up official visits and will narrow his list down to five soon.

So where does Texas stand at this time?

“I’m still interested and want to visit again,” Green said. “I’m Texas bred and Texas fed. They love Texas boys, and I love Texas, too. The main thing I want to see from Texas is the offensive line just dog people this season.”

Green made an unofficial visit to Texas earlier this offseason and got an opportunity to meet new offensive line coach Herb Hand.

Green is still getting to know Hand and hopes to continue strengthening his relationship with him.

“I’ve been having some conversations with him,” Green said. “He’s a great coach. I’m just trying to get to know him and build a better relationship with him. I’m just going to keep talking to him.”

An X-factor in Green’s recruitment is Texas Director of Recruiting Bryan Carrington, who has also been hard at work on the highly touted big man.

“He’s always talking to me,” Green said. “He’s like a big brother to me. It’s cool to have him there at Texas. He’s someone that I can always talk to about everything. He’s a great dude.”

Texas A&M is considered the favorite for Green, but he made it clear that he wants to take his time with the process and evaluate all of his options. Green has no decision timeframe, but a commitment isn’t likely to come until deep into the fall/winter.

At 6-foot-4, 317 pounds, Green is ranked as the No. 4 offensive tackle and No. 14 overall prospect in the state, per 247Sports Composite.
