I'm all in favor of more blocks. I feel like blocks intimidate the opponent and either charge up the home crowd or silence the road fans. I don't think there's a more intimidating play in volleyball. But I watch this team, and I just don't see a great blocking team. As sunset87 notes, they're not always quick to get to the outside. They're also young, but Bunton is kind of a lumberer to me, and Ames isn't a whole lot more impressive in that regard. I like them both fine. They can both terminate the quick sets in front of the setter with aplomb. Harvey seems to have the most upside athletically. She twitchier. She explodes off the floor in a way neither Ames nor Bunton do. She's quick laterally. It feels like she stays in the air forever. But she's young. She didn't even early enroll. So I either lament our poor blocking numbers the rest of the season like a broken record, which I may very well do. I'll for sure continue on some level to miss Singletary, who would have been the eraser in the middle we're currently lacking. Or I accept this is a 2 block per set type of team, and hope they at least hit that mark. In the meantime all is not lost. Maybe the coaches saw we're not going to be a good blocking team, and so chose to deemphasize it. I don't know. But yeah, in international play it's way more common to go straight up. It comes from the men's game, like a lot of the strategies we see implemented. As Js1 notes, it keeps the ball from going between the defenders and the net to fall on the good guys' side. It provides higher elevation for the block, so harder to effectively hit over. It provides more block touches at the expense of blocks that score. I'm not going to sit here and advocate for it, because I love how dominating on the block we've been traditionally. But that's not the hand we're dealt with this season. I've said it a bunch on volleytalk, but if a genie were to suddenly appear to me to grant me one wish for this volleyball team, it wouldn't be to improve the blocking numbers anyway. I'm always interested in serves that get the opposition out of system. I think it's the single most critical component in winning matches, especially at the highest levels where everyone can terminate with aplomb. I don't think we're a bad serving team, but our collection of servers do not create the same fear factor our murderer's row during the two championship runs did. I miss that. It's interesting that we have Kujundzic as the server sub, with Lauenstein on the bench, who was the best server on her Nebraska teams, and Miller and Kahahawai, who are both top spin servers.

So what exactly does Bobby do behind the scenes? -
Username checks out?

Royal wanted Mike Campbell to replace him when he retired. Those "In charge" picked Akers instead. That created bad blood within the program that lasted for years.

QB1 Arch Manning: Doing his best JAG impression to fool scouts
Texasrocks replied to LTtxfan's topic in Football
You're not wrong - Arch should be should be releasing the ball by this point (the still above). He's not even looking that way. But I think the larger comment on this play call stands - 5 wrs should force the other team to defend as much space as possible. Texas leaves the middle of the field entirely open and makes the defense's job easier. -
The only way I want Art Briles on campus is if they place him in a pen next to bevo, and any female that wants to can take take a swing at his nuts with a baseball bat. Hell open it up to anybody that wants to. fuck that piece of shit.

Dr Fear started following Leander Probate Attorney

Need a probate attorney, nothing complicated. Deceased is in Leander and I'm unsure if the deceased residence is in Travis or Williamson, but I would prefer someone that focuses on Williamson either way.

I saw the dude comment on a tiktok of his own fight and clicked on his profile and all of his posts were him fighting MMA
-
He's under control until 2029, so I wouldn't expect him to be traded to the Dodgers until 2028.

I lived at dobie my freshman year on the 16th floor. I'd get on elevator and every fucking floor would be pushed on an empty elevator Rage inducing

Arch Manning: Doing his best JAG impression to fool scouts

Doesn’t stop sarks stupid ass from running it on 2nd and 16 though. -
I don't know shit, but I'm persuaded by @Thatguy. Many times, I've heard game analysts start a replay comment with, "QB Jones sees right away that the defense is in such and such. He knows there's pretty good chance he can hit Receiver Hayes in that spot vacated by..." I've seen it over and over over the years. A million years ago, when I played a bit and watched, QBs were waiting for a guy to break open. Now, as you all know, the ball should be arriving when they break. It's a remarkable development as are so many other subtleties to the game now including the importance of a few feet in where a db sets up. I've been wondering if Arch got in a habit of looking for the long ball in high school. He arrives here, and the focus seemed to be that he could hit those long passes that are so often open in our offense. Maybe it's ingrained that that is what he's expected to do. Just a muse. Another thing that Thatguy's film takes substantiate is my observation that the play designs are actually good. Our problem has been executing something that shouldn't require extraordinary levels of skill.

Sometimes I randomly think about how people like Noem are desperately going to ruin The Great Day ™️ when it happens with their "people ought to have respect for a man who served his country" and it makes me smile

My guess is that he just made that up.

Maybe if the team stopped fucking around with their jewelry and turnover swords on the sideline, they would notice the product on the field is complete asswater. -

Government Shutdown 2025: This Time It’s Personal
Biff Tannen replied to Bozo_Casanova's topic in Cloak Room
Dan Pfieffer is killing me. He's comparing this shut down to pre-dotard era shut downs and treating the voting populace now the same as those from the pre-dotard era. WE ARE IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PLACE WITH MAGATS. This is not the same. They DO NOT CARE about the details behind the shut down. These Dem operatives have to get out from behind their policy wonk walls. They are so disconnected from the average voter. Dumb it down. Make it simpler. Blame the Rs and Trump. Doesn't matter why. -

I mean sure I guess. I’m not in the whole “his political motivations are…” sweepstakes. The defendant is a POS. His motive was likely to impress his girlfriend. I am more interested in the evidence the State of Utah has compiled against this guy. Like a linear timeline of that 24 hours leading up to the shooting and what he did afterwards. So I expect to get more of that in court. They already provided a lot in that first court appearance but it’s still not enough for “some.” Don’t get me wrong, I care about his motive. But i also care about all the evidence. And that evidence is key for those of us who are pushing back on the Candace Owens types who are outright blaming Israel and saying the POS wasn’t the shooter and the video from the roof was faked and that the shooter was framed. It wouldn’t shock me if he was in direct opposition to his right wing parents or if his victim wasn’t right wing enough. but logic tells me that it had more to do with his relationship. Which seemed pretty much one sided. I just see it as a guy who was in love with someone who was transitioning to be a female who wasn’t all that into him and if you combine that with Kirk’s feelings on those transitioning that may have just been enough for the killer. He ended someone’s life just to impress his girlfriend who just wasn’t that into him? I think Ronald Reagan and Jodie Foster and the motivation for that attempted assassination. The shooter left breadcrumbs everywhere. It’s clear we ain’t dealing with someone who is playing with a full deck of cards, and likely never was.

If there's anywhere I'm not going to direct my anger, its at Bobby. He's a part of the answer behind the scenes if there ever was one. Not gonna blame him for going the optimist route, it benefits his business.
