Thanks for the advice on El Paso. We really enjoyed it, and will definitely go back, probably staying a couple of days on a trip to Santa Fe in the spring. We stayed at Paso del Norte, which was absolutely perfect for the things we wanted to see. Had dinner at Park Tavern and it was terrific, and almost empty. (We had to eat early, so that was probably part of it.) My wife had lamb chops that she thought were some of the best she's ever had, and I had the French Dip which was fantastic. As advised, walking around that area near the convention center was perfectly safe even late at night. I didn't even have to use my brass knuckles.

Its not that complicated. Last year Arch was a backup and we wondered why. Now we are seeing why. Everyone is complaining about where the RPO game went and then we throw one and Arch just throws it into triple coverage, somehow luckily getting it completed. So we see why there too. Bottom line, this dude isnt seeing the field or reading coverages pre snap. He is waiting to see something open instead of knowing what will be open based on the coverage he is seeing. Yesterday Florida was largely running cover two, which has been around for a millenia. It has the same vulnerabilities it always had. Between the two safeties up the seam and the extreme edges because they are trying to man up outside. You dont have to be a NFL coach to see if a kid is processing where to go. If he isnt hitting the seam or looking at the short routes on the edge he isnt seeing the field. Sark was seeing it and calling the game appropriately. Evidenced by the announcers repeatedly telling us that someone was wide open up the seam. Arch doesn't see whats going on. You could see it on his TD pass to Wisner. Tre was open immediately and Arch waited until he was almost OB to throw it. There was a play where their nickel blitzed and as he is supposed to, the receiver in the slot saw that, ran a 5 yard route and presented himself. Arch held the ball instead of taking the easy 5 yards. A couple plays later its 3rd and long. Yes our Oline sucks. But its not as bad as we made it look. Gotta get rid of the football. Its pretty clear to me that anything with a lot of traffic like certain screens and RPOs he doesn't trust him with. We aren't running a bunch of bunch shit. We are either heavy run or spread sideline to sideline trying to make the picture clearer.

I am REALLY looking forward to the write up

Maybe yesterday will get this team focused for Saturday. I bought fucking tickets 4 weeks ago so I’m getting there early, eating a shit ton of food and enjoying the fair and this game coming up. It’s my favorite time of the year and I think we beat ousucks Saturday.

We probably lose next week to blow U and maybe Georgia, but sneak past Vandy and upset aggy

Recruiting a guy for size over talent is stupid. You can't teach size but you can't teach talent and athleticism either.
-
This is the very first thing they need to do. There is just zero point in keeping Hutson at center at this stage. It's almost as bad as LG. After that then completely start over at guard, including potentially Campbell. Fucking try Jackson Christian or Christian Jackson or whatever the fuck his name is with the first team if we have to. Tackles aren't great but we can live with them for now, and I'm pretty confident those are our best two.

Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again

It always seemed like the offense was the most likely to be a problem, but damn if I'm not completely deflated by our shit defensive performance. Our DT transfers looked like ACC players. Our All American linebackers get zero pressure. I don't know if Burke is still on the team. Guilbeau is always chasing down somebody who just burned him. Nobody to replace Mukuba 5 weeks into the season. -

I still feel our boosters are motivated. Hell we just signed the #1 class and I can’t imagine that was cheap. I do think that with the house settlement, we cant just outbid and buy everyone like we were doing previously. Other teams can spend about the same money we can. I also think the mindset of us having to pay our guys to retain this roster was probably a bad move in hindsight. We should have gone hard after the Oregon OL, guys like Mario Craver, Noah Thomas, Branch. We should have gone hard after a RB instead of relying on Baxter who is made of glass. This staff over estimated who they had on the roster. I also feel Sark did not do enough to hire good support as far as analysts go. I remember when we brought in actual good coaches like Patterson, the special teams coach from the cowboys, the Wisconsin HC. I truly feel these guys thought that their same schemes would work and that we could just out talent everyone. He needs to hit reset button this off season on offense. -
Same. It was great to see a team have some hope like that and then hold on to win against an opponent no one thought they had a chance against.
-
That O line is horrible. Florida was mainly rushing only 4 guys and they still had trouble pass blocking majority of the game man. Have they been playing these last few weeks? I wonder if it's 2010 again when guys were skipping workouts.

I think the defense just got caught sluggish coming off a bye and were unprepared for Florida to come out with their hair on fire. Still a bad look, because that was very predictable given Florida's circumstances as a program, but that unit has been good enough for long enough that it's reasonable to think that was more of a "one of those days" performance. I think we probably still have a top 5-10 defense at the end of the year unless the team just quits. -
UCLA's return to dominance no longer featuring DeShaun Foster

You guys need a real HC. I think Sarkisian has deep roots in LA -
I hope they do, but they almost certainly won't.

QB1 Arch Manning: Doing his best JAG impression to fool scouts
William Bludworth replied to LTtxfan's topic in Football
I don't know what it is, but for whatever reason for him it takes 90% of the time to develop a play. Caldwell seems to understand the homework and just does it, and very well. I don't know if they have different sets of plays for each guy, but if so, maybe Sark should give Arch the Caldwell plays, and just let Wingo lay on his back and catch passes...if he doesn't fucking drop one. -
He's paid well to make tough decisions that should lead to winning games and more. That's all that's on his performance review. I'd hate to demoralize Arch, but I'd have to keep in mind my job. I so wish we had Chris Simms on the bench. For a fleeting moment, I had hope. The prior few plays were disaster that spelled more disaster. I did a rare scream at the TV. Don't take him out! The "he didn't lose the game by himself" argument is a pretty low bar for a starting QB. That's about the same level as, "well he played well for a quarter." As you state, pointing to bad play by the OL doesn't explain Arch's dithering on pass plays or his abysmal placement even where there are catches. The all caps persuades me that Arch is competent. Thanks. Strange posts? Arch didn't play great and choked at the end except for a few plays? Which side of this discussion are you on? You do not describe adequate performance. Hasn't been great? I missed the SHSU game, but I've seen the rest. We're coming up on the halfway mark of the season, has Arch had even a sound game in there? Has anyone thought, "alright, here we go. Arch is on point. I can't wait to see him play next week"? I don't stake out territory as a fan. I don't have a stand to defend on who starts. I like Arch. I dread him on the field as QB week to week. That's way beyond "hasn't been great." I breathed after that play until I saw it was not to have a follow-up of competence. By all means, we should choose our starters based on anything other than performance. You always start the guy once rated a five star over a guy with seasons of experience. Why is that even being discussed. To win, I bench Arch and start Caldwell. It's merited based on performance. It also may help with Arch's choking problem. I want Arch to work out. I'm past the point of throwing away games to see that happen. The Florida fans are right. We were overrated and will likely remain so. Next year is the year we should be great. But, there's that quarterback thing.
-
It has been difficult to believe that any sort of practice involving first team OL versus first, even second, team DL could leave a single coach, player, or casual observer with the impression that the OL is fully functional. The OL coach is also the co-OC for Run Game. There may be some correspondences to be drawn.
-
Oh I agree in general. Robertson is pretty clearlty better than Hutson at center in the reps we've seen. If the knock on Neto that they can't get him to focus his agression and learn the playbook is true, that still seems like an upgrade at LG to me. I'd rather have one in three plays be busted assignments and have a dog on the rest of them than be physically unable to perform the job every snap like Stroh is. Ultimately either this is the best they can do, which is coaching malpractice; or it's not and they're sticking with it, which is coaching malpractice. It all ends up in the same place. Sark has obviously earned some grace but Flood's got to go.
