  2. Polar vortex to bring triple whammy of Arctic cold to US through mid-December A shifting polar vortex will send multiple rounds of Arctic air into the central and eastern United States through the first half of December. The cold waves will be accompanied by opportunities for accumulating snow. https://www.accuweather.com/en/winter-weather/polar-vortex-to-bring-triple-whammy-of-arctic-cold-to-us-through-mid-december/1840203
  3. Got around to watching Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. It’s been long enough that if you were going to see it you probably would have. But the bad apes are trying to crack open this giant vault at sea level to gain human knowledge with a 30 ft tall sea wall keeping the water away from the work area. Good guy ape (chimp) and human girl find some air vents and go in for plot reasons. A few scenes later human girl opens the vault doors from the inside and then blows up the seawall flooding the vault. Good chimps enter the vault and climb many stories back to the vents to escape the rising water. My question is wouldn’t the water have just risen in the vault to sea level and then stopped instead of the 8-10 stories it showed the water rising? Sure there’d be a surge but water equalizes pretty fast.
  4. I have in the past donated where possible. Had a good month during hail season a few years back & a single Mom with 2 kids (one a solidly autistic teen boy) was asking if anyone had received the junk mail coopin for a "buy 1 / get one 50% off" haircut from Great Clips (she thinks the one she got had been tossed into recycling & lost). Her ex husband wouldn't contribute because in his mind, "I already give you enough $ in child support". I met her @ the parking lot here in Drip (across from H.E.B. & in addition to the coupon, I gave her $ 250 cash & said she should get the kids some Schlotky's or TCBY next door & maybe pay a bill or 2. Now here I am having the wreck last year & income has trickled... I have benefitted GREATLY from the largesse of the Surly community & others & that has kept us afloat in our time of need. We visit the food bank(s) here in Drip & every time we go, my wife feels like it's a pride swallowing event (we were there just today after my 2nd round of retinopathy (eye) injections. I remind her that we should feel extremely appreciative these resources are available here instead of needing to go 1 hour away into Austin. In specific answer to your question, YES. & In so many ways, it is a life & mentally / emotionally changing event.

  9. Got some Brendyn’s earlier this week. The brisket and burnt ends were top notch. The ribs were mediocre and the sausage was bad. I threw it out; tasted like cased dog food. This is what the TM50 taste like outside of the big cities? Oof.

He spent four days meeting with players at their executive board meeting this week, with the hottest topic the upcoming collective bargaining agreement. He told them to be fully prepared for a potential work stoppage, but to also ignore the noise that the game will be shut down when the CBA expires Dec. 1, 2026. ..
