Holy shit you dipshits: 9-3 Texas is probably in the playoffs
DFW Horn replied to Wulaw Horn's topic in Football
Thank you. I'm unfamiliar with Ford's work. I'll have to start looking at it more closely when picking games ATS, since I'm right at a miserable 50% win/loss YTD. Let's say the CFB Playoff expanded to 24 teams - which I agree with BTW. Why would Sankey be "dead set against the P4 leagues getting 4 auto-qualifiers?" That leaves 8 at-large opportunities for the SEC to sneak in a couple more teams, especially if the Big 12 and ACC teams' NIL collectives are making the requisite investment into their programs. -

I’m under no illusions that I will win. The raffle is only open to the club members so I have a better chance than in the PowerBall. I only buy two tickets for each raffle and figure if I am meant to win, I will win. If not, I won’t.

Holy shit you dipshits: 9-3 Texas is probably in the playoffs
Skipper replied to Wulaw Horn's topic in Football
Here is an example of what I'm talking about. Kelly Ford which has dozens of weekly breakdowns based on both his own model and other stats and one of which is a "Schedule Difficulty" chart which is the # of expected wins the #12 Power Rated team would have against a given team's schedule. So this chart breaks down aggregate win probabilities across the entire schedule for what would be the last team in if there was a playoff of top 12 teams by power rating. Texas is 10th overall in schedule difficulty with 7.8 wins. To put it in perspective, Tech is 58th at 9.6. Note Texas is the only team in playoff contention with a top 10 schedule difficulty based on this metric. Doesn't that tell you something? That if you consistently play games you are favored to win 3-7 points, you are much more likely to lose 1 or 2 compared to if you are playing regularly as a 20 point favorite? It's math. Your schedule matters if you have a committee that is going to count losses. -

If any 3-loss team is gonna qualify for the CFB Playoff, it's gonna be UT - or Notre Dame. This will make TV, advertisers, and sponsors very happy. -

Alabama has almost the exact same resume as Texas (the loss at FSU has really aged poorly) except they played a shitty Wisconsin team at home and we played the defending champs on the road. -

Lawyer question: illegal stop?
Nice Guy Eddie replied to markstanco's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
I've never understood why people fall for the line that your license will be suspended if you refuse to blow. So what. As you said, look to get an exemption for work travel. Use Uber or friends/family for the rest. And honesty, you can probably still drive in many situations and never get caught. But it's a risk. I have heard lawyers warn that blood tests can identify other substances in your blood including legal prescription drugs that could impair your driving. Not too mention less than legal substances. It's a consideration for some when requesting a blood test. -

If you’ve ever encountered an old guy out there who corrects you when you call it Drip or Drippin’ and politely informs you that the town has a perfectly beautiful name and that there’s no need to shorten it to something that sounds like your goddamn venereal disease, tell him I said Hi. That’s my old man. He bought land there in the 1970’s and it was our weekend getaway until he moved there full time 25 year ago. He loved it for a long time but it’s not the same little place it was before. “Bro-dozers, red hats, and fake shit-kickers” (not sure… I never ask). He had enough and just recently moved away and put the place on the market.

@Gatorubet covered most, but I'd say that Ukraine is getting modern fighters in numbers the Russians can't (along with the munitions for them), and Ukraine is increasing production of their homegrown long-range munitions (drones/missiles) which are performing admirably, all the while Russia can't currently keep up with air defense system production (as Ukraine continues to destroy/degrade them and target the manufacturing chain). Russia also can't seem to shake the strategy of lobbing a significant number of missiles/drones at civilian targets, which, just as the Germans did during the Battle of Britain (when they switched from targeting the RAF to civilians), is going to bite them in the ass, since every missile or drone put into civilian targets is a missile or drone that's not used against military targets. If their production/acquisition slows down, they are going to wish they had those missiles and drones. When Germany was unable to defend the Fatherland from allied bombing, things started turning slowly, and then suddenly. There's going to come a point where Ukraine drops the Kerch bridge, and shuts down large-scale navel re-supply to Crimea, and starts putting missiles into Moscow. They are already hitting power facilities around Moscow as it is, and there seems to be few targets in Crimea and along the Russian coastline that Ukraine can't touch (and Ukraine has been working over Russia's cargo ships that would be used to supply Crimea). I won't join Gatorubet in his bet about next June, but I do think things will look completely different by then, and probably even by February. This is a very unique moment in history - Ukraine is able to put an economic (and arguably psychological once the heating and electricity fails for longer and longer times) pressure on Russia that few other countries in history have been able to accomplish in the same situation.

What Vegas metrics are you recommending for determining the Top 12 FBS teams to qualify for the CFB Playoffs? -
Interesting conversation from The Bulwark podcast I just listened to. This is regarding Trump's failing health and at what point the cabinet should consider the 25th Amendment. Their conclusion was that they were more likely to "Weekend at Bernie's" the situation rather than replace him, but the REASON was surprising. About half of the cabinet cannot stand JD Vance and actually want to position themselves to be the heir apparent to lead the GOP and run for the White House. So they have no interest in elevating the competition to the post in any scenario. They mentioned people like Rubio and I think Noem (might have been someone else) who are in this group. I think that fear of MAGA is still part of the calculus, but I think a lot of us felt that Trump picked these people because they wouldn't 25th him out of loyalty when in reality they just want to cock block Vance. What a dysfunctional mess.
