Did Freeman even get snaps on defense last season?

Not really that I recall.

People overthink the LB in the way Orlando is running his defense in the Big 12. If you have 4 capable LBs, irrespective of type, you’ve damn near got a 2 deep or a 4 deep depending upon the opponent. USC and Baylor will be different and that is it.

Angilau, Ghirmai, and Rodriguez are more likely OG than OT, at least this upcoming season. Center is a problem.

Kerstetter is effectively the backup center. Which probably means Okafor swings in at RT, which yikes. Poor guy's career has been so mismanaged.

If true, I suspect that it was due more to positional necessity than poor decision making on the part of the staff. It's also possible that Okafor has a good-but-not-great talent level. He's just a junior and I'm obviously hoping that O-Line depth and coaching have both improved (I'm looking at you, Herb Hand) to the extent that he can settle in at one position and develop and refine the skills needed there, instead of having to play Swiss Army Knife. I'd love to see him contending for All-Big 12 honors down the road at either guard or tackle. Time will tell.

I think (hope) in that situation we'd swing Rodriguez out to tackle and then put.... someone at RG. Or Cosmi at tackle. Good lord, anything but Okafor.

Wouldn't it make more sense for Rodriguez to be the backup center than shuffling the whole line around? Hell start ERod at center if hes effective and move Shack to the bench

Then what for 2019? Kerstetter should be there duking it out with Shack.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear something on Fitzgerald or Townsend either.

With D Boyd improbable to return and Grandy retiring, the number the team can take in this next class, without any attrition whatsoever, would be 23? Yeah, they're taking 27-28.

Townsend could contribute in some capacity but 2 staffs now have schemed around and recruited over him. He's the type of player that goes to frog or okie state and gives us problems. It sucks that we can't get more than ST action from him but thems the breaks. I bet he's a great scout team player.

I think the NCAA allows a medical retirement, which means that if an athlete can no longer compete due to injury the school can honor (and continue to pay for) an athlete's scholarship without that payment counting against the 85 limit. I believe that's the case with Grandy.

Updates based on walk-ons getting scholarships and after the first depth chart was released:

Offense:
QB (4) - Buechele (Jr), Ehlinger (So), Rising (Fr), C. Thompson (Fr)

OG (7) - Allsup (RS Sr), Rodriguez (RS Sr), Vahe (Sr), Okafor (Jr), Imade (RS So), Hudson (RS So), Grandy (retired)

C (1) - Shackelford (Jr)

Defense/ST:
DE (7) - Omenihu (Sr), Hager (Sr), Chisholm (Sr), Graham (So), Bimage (So), Carson (Fr), Williams (Fr)

DT (5) - Nelson (Sr), Wilbon (Jr), Christmas (Jr), Coburn (Fr), Ojomo (Fr)

LB (9) - Wheeler (Sr), G. Johnson (Sr), Townsend (Jr), McCulloch (Jr), Roach (Jr), D. Boyd (RS So - suspended), Adeoye (Fr), Ossai (Fr), Vaughns (Fr)

CB (7) - K. Boyd (Sr), Davis (Sr), Don. Duvernay (RS So), J. Thompson (So), Boyce (RS Fr), Cook (Fr), Green (Fr)

K (2) - Rowland (Sr), Dicker (Fr)

P (1) - Bujcevski (Fr)

Epps is listed as a TE/WR, but I'm pretty sure he's been getting reps at XWR, so I've put him in that category.

For the purposes of this year, Jamison is a WR (and a returner).

I've thrown all of the true freshman OL into the OT bucket, but who knows how things turn out. I'll guess that Reese Moore and Jones end up at OT, while Ghirmai and Angilau slide inside.

The official guide lists Roach as a DE, but he's playing LB, so that's where I'll keep him.

Did Okafor have to play in TCU game because of Anderson injury?

Sure seems like some rotations need to occur for oline of Horns or else risk more injuries as season goes along.   If TEXAS can get ahead 2 scores in KState game, it might make sense for Imade, Okafor and maybe even Junior to play 10-12 plays......

Okie Lite WR saying he's redshirting due to lack of passes his way and leaving.  More of these type of stories probably show up over next week or two.

When does list for players electing to transfer come out??  Think it's some time in October.....

Any reason to put that news out there now?  Maybe just tell coach, he doesn't play you and you transfer out after the semester.  Seems like a big distraction at this point in the season.

I hope we try to RS Burt.  We may be losing a lot at WR after this year and he's a guy who can be a playmaker if he gets rid of the drops.

Not sure where to put this but Wheeler and Jones are playing like grown ass men.  Jones get burned once in a while but he's lights out the rest of the time.  Any chance he declares after this season?

Jamari Chisholm is a senior.  He has five years to play four.  We are going to be thin on the DL next year.  I looked at the participation reports for the first three games and he has not played.  Last year he played in several games.   Do you think staff is trying to redshirt him this year?

Thin on the DL?

Not sure about that one, the starters will be Graham, Wilbon, and Bimage. It's likely Roach moves back there, and then you have Giles, the 2018 class, and any JUCO/GT they bring in.

Even more true freshman have played  during 2018 Season

Texas has played 11 true freshmen this year (and that doesn't include injured LBs DeMarvion Overshown and Ayodele Adeoye). In his weekly conference call, Tom Herman said those numbers were based more on skill than the NCAA's new redshirt rule. #HookEm
