My wife's sign for our son won the day in Round Rock Everyone wanted his picture. Great turnout, enthusstic crowd for suburban Wilco! Thanks to any surly neighbors who may have showed up to this, it gave me and my family a much-needed sense of community and togetherness we haven't felt in a long time. I was only able to attend for an hour before heading off to work but it put a huge smile on my face for the entire day and I've been thinking about it late into the night. Living in a red district with lifted trucks everywhere and all the maga cultural touchstones shoved in my face constantly has made me stereotype all the people I see at the local HEB or Walmart or parks in our neighborhood to the point where everyone who isn't wearing their leftism on their sleeves is just another fuckin MAGA goon to me, or at least a bothsidser idiot who can't be bothered to pay attention to the arsonists burning it all down around us. I've become miserably judgmental about the strangers who are my neighbors because I see so many assholes in maga 2A copaganda anti-woke shirts, hats, and bumperstickers that I have gradually assumed that everyone around us supports these GOP ghouls. Seeing all the faces in the crowd from all walks of life and all ages at today's Round Rock protest was a great reminder to me that there are so many average joes and janes in my area who may not look like Portland Antifa, but they are allies in the fight against American fascism. This is what reminds you why your country is worth fighting for.34 points

Dude flew to Denver, drops slurs on video, got his glasses stolen, busted his face open, went viral, then watched his Giants give up 33 4th quarter points to lose 33-32 to the Broncos. Enjoy that flight home, don't come back.31 points

That's surprising. I would have thought Michael Taaffe would have gone off on our dumpster fire of an offense, detailed which coaches need to go, and slammed his best friend sitting next to him. It's weird he chose a different route.29 points

Woke up and ran 13.1 miles. Weather was nice. Legs felt good. Ate a breakfast burrito and a protein shake. And coffee. Black. Went to daughter’s dance class. Love it there. It’s pure and innocent. Totally insulated from adult problems. Went to No Kings and marched ~2 miles. Got rained on. Held my sign and chanted. It was great. FDT. Rested and reflected. Browsed flights to Europe. Carved a pumpkin with kiddo. Her first jack-o’-lantern. Drank a beer and an espresso and a coke zero. Made a beef carpaccio and drank some bourgogne blanc. There were olives involved. Texas football was a wet fart on our day. I muted it to play music. Gilroy? Tell me who wins. Kiddo went to bed. Je t’aime et bonne nuit. Made a vol-au-vent with veal and filet de boeuf. It slammed and went hard. Watched a movie. Yahoo sports popup says we won. Okay, cool, hook’em. But don’t sign that fucking compact or I’m out. Drank a bottle of Chateauneuf-du-pape and a bottle of bourgogne rouge. And some crystal light to keep it classy. Had sex with the wife. More than once. Two or three times. It’s fluid. Maybe I’ll run the other half when the sun comes up in a few hours. Or just brunch. That also sounds nice and easier. Fuck that cheeto pedophile fascist racist rapist insurrectionist motherfucker and everyone who supports him. We’re not done here.22 points

Was at the Seattle march - 90,000, no arrests, one guy along the route yelling something unintelligible at the marchers. Cops here were barely in evidence; they stay a block away in either direction to stop traffic on the cross streets and basically just wave at everyone. It's easy to march in a place like Seattle, or Portland, or NYC - it's those of you who go out in small towns and red states that will end up making the difference. It's showing up that shows like-minded people in your communities that they are not alone; that there are others like them out there. It's people like you that run risks that we don't. Without the big cities and blue states there would be no momentum for this - but without the smaller communities throughout the country nothing will ever change. Thank you to everyone who went out today.18 points

It’s ok guys, Immamac and Linux, renowned for their prescient and correct football takes, have this team’s back. This season had championship expectations. Single game moral victories are for Aggies.15 points

Thanks so much for sharing this and showing up. I'm happy for any American showing up yesterday wherever, but it's a little bit easier for people in libbed up cities like Austin, SF, Chicago, Seattle, Portland etc to hit the streets in protest than it is for people in little towns in deep red parts of Texas where you really stand out to your townfolk. That takes a lot of give-a-shit-ness and these people deserve every high five possible. Honestly hits me right in the feels.14 points

Heather Cox Richardson said some things yesterday that really resonate.. 1. These protests were not going to change things today. But if we keep it up, they might change things tomorrrow. 2. If these protests don't matter, why has the administration and their media mouthpieces spent so much time bashing them This is a marathon, not a sprint.14 points

In Denver a few people were arrested for ignoring orders to temporarily disperse. That was it, afaik. This was also Denver - somewhat lovely video of a magat trying to instigate and then disliking the result.14 points

Arch missed on 3 throws that were both easy AND would have gone for 25 to 50 yards. Arch probably threw another 5 to 7 easy first downs passes that were either behind the WRs, about twice as hard as the pass should be thrown, thrown high, or thrown too late. Arch was under duress a lot this evening, but he was also absolutely unplayable. No question that he would have already been benched if he weren’t who he is. All of this being said, Arch is capable of playing much better. We’ve seen it. But he can’t channel it this year and really needs to not be playing. Once again, Arch was the worst QB that I saw on TV today. Simply atrocious and incapable of making basic throws. It is malpractice to keep him out there these days.14 points

I was back in Omaha this weekend. My sister and her friends went with us. One of the friends’ kid is a non-binary 16 year old. They had some serious depression issues after the election. They felt that America had basically voted to despise them. During the first No Kings, they were deeply moved by all of it, but particularly people showing up with signs to protect trans kids. And it marked a positive turn in their mental health. There is some modest political benefit of these marches. But don’t underestimate their value to the vulnerable communities that are being targeted. Don’t underestimate the value to everyone who thinks it’s all so fucking crazy. We’ve got 39 more months of this shit and we need to take care of each other.13 points

Roma, the dude is late on everything. He is late on his reads. He is late on coming off his reads. He is late on his incompletions and he is late on his completions. He is just late. Everything is so slow, and a large part as to why the O-line looks the way it does. Blitzes and rushes that should never get home get there because he cannot get the ball out. For example, the play where he got sacked trying to throw to Livingstone coming across the formation, Parker was open on the break and Arch waiting until he was well past the center to throw it. If he throws it right away the rush never gets there and Parker is running for a 1st down. Its like he doesn't have the plays memorized and it just out there throwing to whatever he sees open like back yard football. There is zero pre snap recognition for what should be open. Its all just wait and see.12 points

We went to the protest in Nacogdoches. There were probably ~250 people there, but as others have said, it’s harder in a small town. I know quite a few people that definitely wanted to be there but didn’t go because their livelihood depends on keeping the peace with most of their neighbors. There were more honks and waves in support than there were middle fingers and yelling. But there were a handful of people making a fool of themselves yelling Trumpaloo nonsense - all middle aged white men. It felt good to be out there and I did see a few people I see around town that I didn’t expect to see there. But it should have been 2,500 people out there, not 250.11 points

Full disclosure, I love seeing Russian shit go boom in the night. But, having spent my professional career working in and around gas processing plants, where the marvels of technology showcase the simplicity of Newtonian physics, where everything around you is a hazard and safety is preached every day, all day, until it becomes your way of life, it is with mixed emotions that I share my thoughts here. The people that work here don't carry guns, they carry pictures of their kids. "Russia says overnight Ukrainian drone attack targets gas facility in Orenburg region Governor says fire broke out at a workshop of partially damaged facility, adds no casualties reported" - Burc Eruygur 19.10.2025 Nor was it a just a "workshop fire." I can't even write that without laughing out loud!!! You all have been very patient with me as I drone on (you like that ?) about hitting specific targets rather than simply lobbing grenades over the fence. A gas plant has nothing but large pressure vessels full of high pressure natural gas and Natural Gas Liquids. And massive gas plants with a series of "trains" of multiple process vessels, heat exchangers, pumps and compressors, and separators and condensers, ... My screenshot of the Orenberg Gas Plant. I have highlighted in red the tall Red & White striped smokestacks you see in the photos and the video in the OP. The video is shot from the road to the south, ~ 3/4 mile from where the actual fire is. I have highlighted what I call "Process Towers" in yellow, which is where most of the intense fire is, between the smokestacks. It would appear that massive fireball envelopes most of the process towers. The roar of the fire in the video is the expansion of high pressure gas at sonic velocity, depressuring rapidly from 1,000 PSI to atmospheric pressure, and to make it really exciting, igniting and burning. The heat from a truck fire will melt everything but the wheels and the drive shaft. This fire, with a constant fuel source, won't leave much of anything. Just for fun, crank the sound on the video of the fire up to 10, 11 if you have it. This is from a cell phone 3/4's of a mile from the fire. The Orenburg Gas Plant is one of the largest in the world, 2nd to the massive Empress Plant in Alberta, CA, (maybe something in Qatar?). This plant is 4 times larger than anything in the Lower 48 of the US, processing gas from the Orenburg region of Russia, as well as gas produced from the Karachaganak oil and gas fields in neighboring Kazakhstan. The gas processed at the plant is the two extremes of natural gas; (i) Gas with any helium content is very valuable (used to be ~100x the price of natural gas) and usually becomes government property and has a processing plant built just to extract the helium, and (ii) the other side of the equation, gas with extremely high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), mercaptan sulfur and carbon dioxide (CO2), "acid gases", which are lethal after 1 breath at these levels. The commercial spec on natural gas pipelines is 4 parts per million (ppm); some of this gas has 6.8 % H2S, 68,000 ppm. This is a case where you isolate the fuel source, and let the fire burn itself out. Even then, the products of combustion include sulfuric acid and carbon acid, among other things. You always want to be upwind of these plants. 2 good links below: Ukrainian drones ignite one of Russia’s largest gas plants 1,200+ km from front lines ORENBURG GAS CHEMICAL COMPLEX Some Gas Plant porn: The 7 "smokestacks" are easily identifiable, and the multiple flares can be seen, where the "off gases" are burned in a controlled manner. In the photo below, as you look at the smokestacks, the various process towers can be see in the foreground and to the right. Gas processing towers are not as big and tall as refinery towers, as more of them operate at higher pressures, up to 1,000 PSI, and some of them operate at temperatures as low as - 170 °F. The roadway in the OP video would be to the right in this picture, with most everything in front of the 4 smokestacks within the fireball. Nice shot of a mushroom cloud against the backdrop of a much larger fire, probably a smaller pressure vessel having a "BLEVE", a Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion. It occurs when a container holding a pressurized liquid, like propane or other industrial gases, is heated to a point where the internal pressure becomes too great for the vessel to withstand (the boiling liquid vaporizes at a higher rate than the capacity of the relief valve). This causes the container to rupture, and the liquid flashes into a large vapor cloud, resulting in a powerful explosion and, if the contents are flammable, a massive fireball.11 points

If Kentucky was an anomaly for the offense then I could understand being like "take the win" but this level of play is the norm and you can't watch this season and think yeah we're on the right track.11 points

Here's what I keep coming back to- EVERYTHING in this program is built upon the idea that Sark is an elite offensive coach, playcaller, and QB coach. The wheels have completely fallen off of his offense. His star QB is a deer in headlights. His game plans are confounding. His clock management is consistently poor. His offensive stats against ranked teams are objectively bad. All of this with a top 3 NIL payroll and consistently high recruiting classes. Meanwhile, PK is putting out an elite product on defense and his side of the ball is clearly the thing thats keeping our heads barely above water. The stark difference is a very tough look for Sark. It feels like we are starting to enter the territory where we are forced to ask the question- What is the overall value that Sark brings to the program?11 points

I seriously don't know if some of y'all need bigger TVs or your eyes checked or just don't know anything about football. Receivers were open all day. I believe the offensive struggles are 100% on the OL and QB. Those 6 players have been barely passable and that's why this team has 2 losses. We saw a major regression from last week on the OL front and I think that had a pretty big impact on Arch, but I don't think there's a ton of QBs in the country that would have done much better against unblocked defenders and a constantly imploding pocket and the need to run around like crazy instead of going through any kind of reads in the pocket.11 points

Oh, and when we left our house today, our long-time handyman was there working (some deferred maintenance we’re catching up on). We’ve known him and been close with him for years; he got married (by my wife) on our back deck. He’s Mexican, with legal status. But many of his friends and colleagues are at risk. As we gathered our stuff, he asked if we were going to protest. My wife said “absolutely.” Long pause, then “thank you.” As we marched, I said “man, a paleta cart would be next level here, for multiple reasons.” Well, lo and behold, when we got to auditorium shores…. Finally, on the walk back, car driving along the 1st street bridge beside us. Guy hollers out the window at all of us walking by - “I’m from Canada, and you all are great!” Different folks, from our whole continent. We aren’t going away.11 points

If you’re going to talk about that crosser that “hit him in the hands” I’m gonna call Bullshit. even great WRs will drop passes 3 feet behind them when they’re running full sprint the opposite way. Y’all expect too much of him and ignore how poorly the QB throws that ball.10 points
