  1. I'll be there in two weeks, fuck this... (but glad I found @BarkAndreFurry tagged here)
  2. I usually roll my eyes when someone posts a travel location and all of Surly comes back with why they need to go to someplace different. But in this case it's probably true. Honolulu, especially Waikiki, is Times Square with an ocean. Crowded and expensive, everything you do has to be planned and will take longer than it should. It's easy enough to fly there and jump to a different island, or drive to North Shore or one of the eastern Oahu spots. Pearl Harbor is worth a visit for a half day though.
  3. Some teams are buyers, some are sellers and some are cockblockers
  4. Idea 1 - Scheduling alliances: only matters for top teams, and they can already schedule who they want Idea 2 - Big 12 and/or Pac 12 expand: yawn, whether it happens or not...no attractive program is available Idea 3 - Bluebloods go independent: Would have happened by now if it was viable...can't forget other sports Idea 4 - New 65-team FB alliance: Could happen, but if you do this you might as well just aim big and do... Idea 5 - Smaller "Premier" alliance: Hard to see it happening now, but it makes the most sense As Karl Benson said, the school name would be on the uniform but that's the only connection. It's kind of the case today whether we admit it or not. If the presidents realized they could make way more money, have a better product on the field and not have to keep up the academic charade (including Title IX), maybe they would take the plunge. I don't know enough about the macroeconomics of higher education in general, which I assume comes into play before any new paradigm can come into being. There may be public funding or antitrust issues that prevent Idea 5 from getting off the ground.
  5. 40 minutes for Eddie was nice, I found him more interesting than funny but that's fine. Lots of Cosby talk there, and a little more in the Seth Rogen episode. Rogen describes a "what could have been" all-time comedy moment w/Will Ferrell, and the producers found the footage for the post-credit quickie shot. Show seems to be using more graphics/supporting video than the past, and it helps.
  6. Interesting. I would think the national name exposure would be a boon for applications for several years. But obviously the show turns over the academic rocks and that is never gonna be pretty. Plus the show really needs at least one psycho alpha character, preferably the coach. Hope it comes back someplace
  7. I know he invoked Hitler, but I don't think he's racist enough for aggy
  8. Guarantee he expects to replace Helton at USC next season. He'll end up settling for a Sun Belt QB coach job
  9. Florida Aquarium is solid, they have a Goliath Grouper that's the size of a small car. Also find an excuse to go over Sunshine Skyway, it's a really impressive bridge. Short trip (1 hour+) to Longboat Key/Sarasota would accomplish that
  10. Man, this show covers two things in nearly every episode better than ESPN has in decades: black poverty and jock academics
  11. Pay the homeless $1 for every scooter they return to a docking port I had an Indianapolis Lyft driver who told me they actually have a program like that
  12. I'm with the Wild Turkey and Not Actually takes. The era depicted is right in my wheelhouse, so the nostalgic elements mixed with humor is probably enough to keep me watching. But they've lost the supernatural dread from Season 1
  13. Lots of great tackling here, obviously: TCU 10, Cal 7 Baylor 45, Vanderbilt 38 Washington State 28, Iowa State 26 Syracuse 34, West Virginia 18 Alabama 45, OU 34 OK State 38, Missouri 33 Texas 28, Georgia 21
  14. The "run it back" strategy most of us wanted carried a lot of risk. Team was like a rubber band stretched to the limit in terms of salary, injury and roster depth. Any little issue with one of the starters would have been catastrophic. Now it looks like they'll have some flexibility and can maybe power through the regular season closer to the top of the standings. We'll worry about playoff rotation later. And even though Butler was clearly given the alpha dog role late in playoff games, I suspect he really wanted to be the biggest name on his team all year round. Probably never intended to come back.
  15. That is so awesome and I can't believe Zach Smith didn't think of it first
  16. Marlins are 7-5 vs Phillies, 7-20 vs other NL East teams 😶
  17. I refuse to start a topic for The Hills: New Beginnings so I'll just quote this and say that trying to have Heidi & Spencer carry a show with zero Lauren Conrad participation is fucking disgraceful
  18. The serious answer, you'll want to go to E. College Ave and find something. Not as many students around as during the school year, so it will probably seem dead. The Waffle Shop is great for breakfast. I guess The Tavern for drinks at night...they closed the Rathskeller for some reason and I'm not sure if anything replaced it. Tailgate Bar & Grill (W. College Ave) used to be a Damon's and I think still looks like a Damon's , so that's not bad. Beautiful area regardless which way you drive in. Hopefully driving in daylight from either Pittsburgh or Harrisburgh, it can be tricky at night or in bad weather.
  19. Actually there IS something wrong with that
  20. From the same venue, another road win for St Louis:
  21. Awful sequence for the Phillies in SD after McCutcheon led off with a walk: Jean Segura gets ahead 2-0 but goes to a knee to chase a low pitch, which he pops up to 2B...Kinsler smartly sees Segura isn't running so he lets the ball drop and they easily force Segura/tag McCutcheon for a double play...McCutcheon suffers some type of non-contact knee injury and is out of the game
  22. Almost anyone hired by ESPN or sporting event fan fests lately: 21 Pilots, Imagine Dragons, Chainsmokers
  23. Fraley was a great reporter. Even his game stories had an edge, but he wasn't playing a character or anything (despite his love of pro wrestling). You could tell he had good sources but didn't suck up to them or take sides.
  24. Sometimes competing ideas can both be true: - Political opinions had zero impact on ESPN's falling ratings - Pitaro made a brilliant business decision in snuffing out the politics ESPN's whole brand was being tied to a handful of tweets from their talent. They have enough challenges staying profitable in this changing marketplace, so Pitaro nipped that one in the bud straight off. P.S. Whoever bitched about softball airing needs to watch a Florida State game with #48 pitching from CF camera
