2018 San Antonio Spurs Offseason Thread -- Into the Great Unknown

The Spurs can still be better than last year, but dont expect many wins against the Top 6 teams in the NBA. Defense will be an issue.

What Murray’s loss means is one less active athlete, rebounder and defender. It does open up space for Aldridge and Derozan. There are positives to removing a non-shooter from the floor.

But it also limits the ceiling for this team. Murray has all-star potential and could wear down guys like Steph Curry and James Harden.

One or two more key injuries and we need to tank it.

Wow.... plantar fascia tears are horrible.  They are indefinite and it has to be complete rest off his foot.  6-8 weeks is sort of a best case scenario because of the high risk of re-aggravation or re-injury.  10-12 weeks is a more conservative estimation with a slow recovery of about a month longer to get back to high intensity training (4 months total).  Worst case scenario is 6 months although with youth and professional medical staff that seems extreme.  We won't know the severity or I haven't seen if it's been reported as partial or full tear.  It's a strange injury where a complete tear may be easier to recover from than a partial.....

Curse of Tony Parker!!!!  I mean the 3 guys Spurs fans should be most excited about their development or future are all hurt to start this year...... Tank, tank, tank.  Get rid of Patty and Pau this season, get a high lottery pick and have enough money for a max UFA or RFA and come back next year.  Time to re-load!!!  The question is will LMA want to be part of a tank year?

Gonna be one of Pop's most challenging years of Coaching.  Get some popcorn ready and enjoy The Show.....

Lot's of player development growing pains..... but Pop truly is a "Renaissance Man".  He's recreated this Spurs Team 3 different times, and might be about to paint his greatest masterpiece....

I still can't believe that no sooner than Murray goes down White follows shortly after. The Spurs should seriously look at taking offers for any veteran player on the roster including LMA and DeRozan with the future in mind. The Spurs are a fringe playoff team at best now after the injury bug came through like a wrecking ball at the Guard position. Lonnie Walker was already hurt, Murray goes down for the season and White is going to miss significant time. It would be especially nice to dump off Gasol and Mills to obtain a lot of cap flexibility because they're handcuffing the Spurs from making any moves in the near future.

Good luck finding a taker on Gasol..... that Dude should have been cut from NBA in May of 2017....

You may see suitors for DeRozan in Jan/Feb, but probably not LMA who is long in the tooth with maybe two Seasons left.....

One of you assholes needs to start the season thread, because it sure as fuck ain’t gonna be me. Unless y’all want to fully tank, in which case I’ll do it.

Possible title options for a 2018-9 season thread:

"We have no point...so what's the point?"

"Gay's Anatomy and other things unwatchable"

"You there in the second row: Can you defend the PnR?"
