Texas Recruiting Notes 2021

Every staff that isn't Clemson, Bama, or Georgia shoots themselves in the foot to some degree. It just so happens that we follow Texas.

That said, Tom not getting personally involved in recruitments is a theme repeated from multiple sites and sources now, and I'm not sure why he doesn't.

He has his style/philosophy about pretty much everything and doesn't deviate.  Positives and negatives to being that locked in on an approach.  Looks like he realized offers needed to go out sooner and a little more broad.  We'll see if this kind of feedback re: Foster leads to some changes because I do believe someone on staff monitors the various boards for intel.

On the Bryce Foster recruitment itself, I'll chalk it up to the staff wanting to be upfront about how they see it.  Whether that's a good strategy or not depends on individual.  Some would appreciate the honesty and others would be turned off.  Might make sense for Bryce to talk to Burt about it and get his thoughts.  (i.e. Is it workable, how supportive is the staff, etc.)

It can't be emphasized enough how crucial this upcoming season is for Herman to stay on schedule. We have to win 10 games minimum so we clean up these '21 recruits. Their talent is good enough to be the foundation for championship teams in the near future.

2021 DE Shemar Turner of DeSoto told OrangeBloods he has no other visit plans in place other than returning to Texas in late July for the annual night camp.

He also mentioned a lot of the Dallas guys discuss staying in Texas for college.

That's from McComas. He also had this: "Quay Davis said Texas feels like home, and he’s working on making the Dallas movement strong. Get the sense a lot of these young Dallas prospects have a lot of state pride."

The biggest update from SpursTalk is that Randolph Duke or an impostor of his is their newest poster.

This staff cleaning up in Dallas would be a hilarious shift in the recruiting landscape. It would also really hamper OU, so I’m all for it.

Indeed.  Force their hand and see if they are ready to go into Houston and join the $EC in the deep end of the recruiting cesspool.

not insulting Houston, just the nature of Houston recruiting.

Cleaning up DFW is a good strategy provided our staff continues to cherry pick the rest of the state and compete for select national bluechips.

Certainly.   But the ever-growing sordid $EC influence with Houston recruits incentivizes us to dominate the Metroplex.

As a Houstonian, UT being generally Team Dallas would be sad. But screwing over OU and occasionally pulling an H-town bellcow and their friends (do it Brandon Campbell) would be phenomenal.

Look - I’m not saying Bryce won’t eventually pick Texas. He loves the program and coach Hand. He wants to play close enough for friends and family to see him, and he is not a social media diva.

But they have blown a lay-up here by their attitude towards his throwing. Other schools now have his attention.

If he’s that good a field athlete then he needs to spend the time there. If the 2021 OL class is as good and deep as it seems, Texas should be just fine if they take him and he never develops into his full potential.

If Texas isn’t fully onboard with his track schedule, they are in the wrong.  If any school is bullshitting him about splitting time, they are in the wrong. I guess at least Texas is going with the honest approach.

Somewhat facetious, but yeah it's super rad Burt spends his springs lighting the tower orange instead of sitting in front of a JUGS machine for the sport we all actually watch.

(Joe Cook) Heat Wave Takeaways: 2021 prospects

Savion Byrd, Duncanville (Duncanville, TX)

The five-star OT visited Austin with his quarterback, Ja’Quinden Jackson. Spoke with coaches about playing on both sides of the ball, but prefers the offensive side. Had positive comments for Herb Hand, and said Texas and SMU are two of the schools on him most.

Quay Davis, Skyline (Dallas, TX)

The first member of Texas’ 2021 class said he had a great time in his first visit back as a commit, and noted “I’m ready to be here.” Has already started recruiting for his class. He said he’s close with Ja’Quinden Jackson, and said his commitment was important for the #DallasToAustin movement Texas is trying to make happen.

JD Coffey, Kennedale

Coffey noted how much fun he had at a recruiting event where football wasn’t the main focus after a month of camps and a spring of junior days/spring games. Like several other recruits, Coffey enjoyed the wing-eating contest. Building his relationship with Craig Naivar.

Jalen Milroe, Tompkins (Katy, TX)

Milroe said he had a great time building the relationship with the Texas coaches on campus for the first time since receiving his Texas offer. Spent time with Herman today, and noted the relationship that Herman has (and Herman's continuing loyalty) toward some of the players he’s coached that have made it to the NFL. He feels like he’s a fit in the offense, and studied what Herman ran while at Houston. Plans to enroll early.

Deuce Fatheree, Foster (Richmond, TX)

Fatheree made it to Austin in between other visits for both basketball and football and the summer basketball circuit. Spoke highly of Herb Hand, and enjoyed his tour of campus. He’s being recruited for both football and basketball by several schools and is interested in playing both, but noted “if it’s not going to happen, it’s fine.” Said he is 6-foot-8, 299 pounds. He plans to play in the EYBL Finals Peach Jam in South Carolina July 10-14. Expect Texas to make the cut whenever he narrows down his list of schools.

Tony Grimes, Princess Anne (Virginia Beach, VA)

The five-star CB from Virginia spoke highly of the coaching staff, characterized the attention he got from the UT staff as “amazing love.” He plans to be back for a game this fall.

Juan Davis, Everman (Everman, TX)

Texas spoke with Davis about playing in the Lil’Jordan Humphrey role. Loves to “embarrass corners” on the field, and spoke highly of Derek Warehime. “Very excited” to get his offer from Texas, and he said it’s the school on him most right now.

Shemar Turner, Desoto (Desoto, TX)

Turner was “surprised and excited” to receive his Texas offer. He described himself as “explosive and quick for his size.” Enjoyed seeing Oscar Giles win the wing-eating contest for the d-linemen, and also took notice of the #DallasToAustin movement Texas is trying to create. Plans to see Texas again later this summer.

Really want Milroe.  Perfect fit for this offense.

#DallastoAustin is a fine strategy.  Beat OU at the Cotton Bowl/Conference Championship Game and in recruiting,  Fuck Little Lincoln.  Beat them so bad they are relegated to recruiting New Mexico and West Texas.    We win the conference and play for a national title.  Make aggy watch.
