I swear, Quinn must have kicked the dogs of some of the posters around here. The guy's faults were real and acknowledged but some of you refuse to stop the ad nauseam critique. I too am excited for the team to move forward but I'm still pulling for Quinn to excel with the Dolphins.

The poster above you is mental.  Best to ignore his posts on football.  He does a fine job on the basketball forum though.

Ewers got a lot of help at Texas, and I think his shortcomings played a substantial role in the Georgia and Ohio State losses. Still, I think he could be the best QB on the Dolphins and I'd love to see him succeed at the next level. I don't care about that team at all, otherwise, so what's the harm in rooting for the guy?

It won't matter. Even if Ewers took over this year and passed for 4k and 40, and Miami did no worse than the AFC CG...these dudes would still shit on Ewers. I don't like his politics or his choices, but he was easily one of the 10 best QBs in Longhorn history. Easily. But the talk on this thread is like he took a team full of AAs and went winless for his entire career.

you want a safe space; you want hornfans. how are we supposed to have a thread about any player, much less this player, if there’s NCAA- NO CRITICISM AT ALL? i have no idea why it hurts so many of you so deeply, or why you have this constant need to admonish anyone who doesn’t blindly slurp all things UT, but your sentiments have been duly noted for some time now. you think we don’t need any criticisms of QE being posted here? i can promise you that we don’t need anymore “gosh you guys are so mean and negative why can’t you just be positive” posts.

the other thing that’s so weird about this, and it’s the same in the hoops forum too: on game day there’s 1,000 posts just crushing half the players on the team, and that’s fine, but when it comes to the threads where we actually discuss these specific players then it’s just wildly out of line. “fuck player x, i hope he transfers and gets hit by a bus” = +30 rep in a game thread, meanwhile “player x needs to improve at a, b, and c” is wildly triggering to read in the player-dedicated thread. makes no sense.

kinda like how QE could be one of our worst offensive players the last two years and still get treated like vince young + tim tebow gave birth to the second coming of jesus christ by you and yours. weird how that works.

i wish you guys would ever, just once, actually back up these asinine statements with any sort of evidence at all, because it’s just not true. people have rightfully criticized QE for his shortcomings, and aside from one poster calling him a pussy 1,000 times, it really hasn’t gone too far beyond that. chris simms was a much better player who got mistreated 1,000x worse than quinn did. when quinn left Texas our fans acted like their hearts were being ripped out. in reality QE has way, way, way more support and way less BS criticism than you guys act like is the case. no one UT player has ever been more exalted for doing less, and yet so many of you remain forever hung up on the minority of us who weren’t blown away by his subpar play. get over it.

If you're wondering why Ewers has been catching shit all offseason, it's because a lot of people think we were better QB play away from winning a national championship, combined with his pedigree and who he had sitting behind him. Then he almost went undrafted. Argue it if you want, but that's the deal.

Also, as discussed before, he was a solid but not great QB and we don't do that well around here. Like the same applies to Jake Majors but no one is arguing about him.

Just like your other responses to me, that's 100% not what I said. "10 best" doesn't equate to VY + Tebow. Major Applewhite is likely also one of the 10 best and he's nowhere close to VY or Tebow. Texas hasn't had a shitload of worldbeaters at QB unlike, say, BYU or even Washington or USC. And I haven't posted in this thread in, what, months? Yet you responded within minutes. Dude, fuck off into the sun.

exactly. it’s the very people who get upset at my benign disagreements who then swear up and down that it’s me who is overly emotional. i’m not the one speaking in crazy hyperbole or mass negging posters who disagree with me, and yet here we are. even you yourself have habitually made posts in this thread about what an unstable lunatic i am, even though none of my posts here bear that out to be true, and none of your personal attacks on me ever get a response- much less a rise- out of me. the irony is not only lost on you, you are the embodiment of said irony.

People say "like" and "as if" to indicate tone, not fact. You, on the other hand, make declarative statements (calling QE one of the worst players on O two years running, et al). Those are different things.

Also, game day is full of emotion. But you continue with that kind of emotion, as evidenced by your knee-jerk diatribes, months later. Again, different things.

And yet it appears you are unable to see those differences, therefore people get angry at you, questioning what the hell's going on upstairs.

My main point is that I disagree with your assessment of Ewers.  For one thing, I don't think Simms was "much better" nor do I think he got treated "1000X worse".  I think they were both good to very good college QBs who played a position for which Texas fans are notorious for criticizing a great deal.  Among other things, I disagree with these assertions you put on Ewers:

* he had zero pocket presence

* he was scared to death to get hit

* he was inaccurate

So if you want to defend those statements, be my guest, but this has been going on for years and I seriously doubt you have evidence to prove any of them true in the aggregate.

they are different things.

quinn was one of our worst offensive players- that’s the truth.

”you guys act as if quinn went winless- that’s wild, overly emotional hyperbole.

first, being “one of the worst offensive players at Texas” the last two years is hardly the insult you’re making it out to be, and second, i don’t make ad hominem posts like that to insult QE, i simply point this fact out whenever someone says, “quinn led us to the playoff semifinals two years in a row” or something similar. it’s then that i point out that our coaches, defense, and skill position players are who actually “led us” to back to back playoff semifinals, pointing out that QE was one of the weaker links during both seasons. that’s not shit talk, that’s simple fact.

look, you guys don’t like/can’t handle criticism of your favorite players. fine. just don’t make it out to be anything else, like people are just mercilessly attacking quinn ewers, when in reality his adoring and dedicated fans have made him out to be something that he’s not, and all people are doing is pushing back against this false narrative that QE was a great qb who was the main reason for Texas’s recent success. he wasn’t. sorry.

Knee-jerk reaction

When used metaphorically, "knee-jerk" describes a response that is quick, instinctive, and not well-thought-out.

It often suggests a reaction based on habit, emotion, or ingrained biases rather than careful consideration.

as for how they were treated, my god, it’s not even close. not only did chris simms have none of the wildly faithful throngs of adorers that QE had/has, people *hated* chris simms in a way that QE’s biggest “haters” have never approached. simms has never wanted to come back here because of the way he was treated, meanwhile quinn is a demigod on campus and among most fans. this one isn’t even up for debate.

are you serious? is this a joke? this is like arguing that vince young wasn’t athletic, that ricky williams didn’t break tackles, that bryant westbrook didn’t hit hard. you’re highlighting the most glaring flaws in QE’s game and not only saying that you don’t believe they exist, but that nobody can back up such wild assertions. give me a second while i go back to march/april and find the posts in this thread (or was it the bro draft thread? 🤔) with that scathing in depth scouting report on quinn which highlighted all of these deficiencies in his game (and more). you know, the one that got posted right before QE nearly missed being drafted completely. not that your own eyeballs shouldn’t have already confirmed all of this for you already.

It's impossible to push back on you hyperbolic assertions without you going nuts.  He wasn't "scared to death to get hit", as evidence by him getting clobbered multiple times while completing a pass.  He wasn't "inaccurate", not by a long shot.  He had more than "zero" pocket presence.

You are what you accuse others of.  I honestly don't think there is some sort of Major/Chris cult going on.  Quinn was good.  People saw him for what he was.  Well, you don't.  End of story.

Quinn Ewers has ‘plenty of arm strength for what we need,’ Dolphins coach says

Spoiler

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Miami Dolphins hit the gridiron for their first preseason game Sunday in Chicago, and Quinn Ewers should get plenty of playing time against the Bears being the team’s No. 3 quarterback.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Quinn Ewers (14) takes a drink of water during practice at the NFL football team’s training camp, Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Miami Gardens, Fla. (AP Photo/Lynne Sladky)

But, could he supplant Zach Wilson and be the backup before the season starts? Head coach Mike McDaniel left it open-ended with his comments after the team’s practice July 30.

Former NFL coach, QB guru thinks Quinn Ewers ‘has a bright future ahead’

“Zach (Wilson) is doing a great job. Zach is the backup quarterback and it’s up to players to adjust that,” he said. “There’s no such thing as non-competition, and I think Quinn is the type of person that is every day trying to make that a real competition. Right now, it’s not like that in my mind, but I’m very candid about being open to anything that the players tell me with actions, not words.”

McDaniel has been impressed with Ewers so far, saying he “has to stack days as the quarterback,” meaning make incremental improvements consistently over the course of training camp and into the season. Ewers is managing the playbook well, McDaniel said, working through about a nine-day install process where new plays are being added each day.

Longhorns receiver lets everyone know the difference between Arch Manning, Quinn Ewers

Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell spoke with reporters Monday and said he’s excited about the progress Ewers has made in training camp.

“Every day he comes out and gets a little bit better,” Bevell said. “He’s putting a lot of good stuff on tape, doesn’t make a lot of mistakes, and when he makes a mistake, we’re able to get it corrected. He’s willing to work on the little details we’re asking him to, and we’re happy with where he’s at.”

Being a rookie, it goes without saying that Ewers has a long way to go to be ready for an actual NFL game, but Bevell said he has the tools to keep developing.

Longhorns offensive lineman Andre Cojoe feared to be out for season

“I like his demeanor. He’s very calm and cool and has a little swag about him,” Bevell said. “He doesn’t get rattled, and that’s a really good starting point for a quarterback. He sees things really well and can anticipate things well.”

Throughout his college career with the Longhorns, Ewers’ arm strength was always questioned. Bevell, a 25-year NFL coaching veteran, said it’s just fine.

“He’s not Brett Favre or Matt Stafford, in that category, but he has plenty for what we need,” he said.

Ewers said he’s become more confident as training camp rolls along, and his approach has been one of open-mindedness and being thankful for the opportunity.

“I’m still learning, and trying to play my game at the end of the day and have fun doing it,” he said. “I feel like I’m playing faster every day and I have a good grasp of what has been installed so far.”

i’ve seen clips of him in camp making some of those “wow” throws that have tantalized people since quinn was 16. i feel like if sark can’t turn you into a consistently above average qb then you’re probably not going to ever make it in the league, but as has been stated, he’s in the best position possible. i’m actually really looking forward to watching him play in the preseason, and it’s going to be much easier for me to all-out root for him now that his play doesn’t affect the team that i love. i’m really interested in seeing what mcdaniel can do with him.

*to be clear: i absolutely rooted for quinn to succeed at Texas, but with the way he was holding the team back, and with how great Arch looked, i could never get fully behind quinn. that’s not an issue for me now.

The "lawyer guy." Fucking L O fucking L. Who the fuck are you?

I said "like" which is not the same as "someone here said that." I've said it before and I don't know why the fuck I'm saying it again, probably because I've had a shitty week so I'm doing the total loser thing and fighting with some narrative-pushing narcissist/manic depressive on the Internet who is entirely trolling because he just wants to fight without repercussions to channel his life frustrations at something/anything, but there are legitimately times when you have valuable insight and post meaningful things, and then there's the majority of times when you completely ignore important words that change the entire meaning of a post so you can push your bullshit narrative, while in the same thread page claim you didn't do something while turning around and doing that thing; case-in-point "FACT: Ewers was one of the worst offensive players on the team last season"--worse than Cole Lourd? Joe Tatum? Velton Gardner? Reid Watkins? All of the walk-ons? All of the third- and fourth-teamers? 2nd-team All-SEC QB was worse than them? It's bullshit like this that makes me skip past your posts without looking at the content.

Did he live up to expectations? No. Does that mean maybe he wasn't as good as the hype and whatnot? Yes. How many of 'me and my people' on this thread have admitted that? All of them? And yet here you are accusing others of hyperbole and being overemotional when you take 9/10 of the posts out of context to push your objectively, obtusely asinine narrative that Ewers was "one of the worst." One of the worst. Not bottom half of the roster. Not bottom quarter of the roster. One of the worst. This is the kind of bullshit that compels otherwise sane, otherwise above-average-intelligence argue with you. No more for me. I'll take the pussy way out and put your dumbass on ignore, because you. Fucking. Suck.
