If you don’t get immaculate today you gotta forfeit the game.

I was going for rarity

and apparently schmidt isn’t a .300 career hitter. Was worried about that column, hence picking Ruth. Too many guys have a shitty last few years and drop below.  Also would be helpful to learn when these awards started being given out, so I know which eras to eliminate.

eta lol he hit .300 one single season in his career.  Just blew that one

Silver slugger is an award where I'm completely guessing every time.

yeah it is hardest for me, as after about 1987, it is hard to remember who had high BA and hit for enough power.  you can't just go by BA or just HR/RBI.

today's version is what I wish it was most of the time.  the 2 team thing is usually pretty difficult for me to be honest unless there is an obvious guy from 60's 70's 80's.

I did look up when the Silver Slugger award was invented before I started, because I knew it was new-ish but wasn't sure exactly when. I didn't feel like that was cheating.

It was fun doing one where I got to use all famous guys.

So looks like GG for all positions is 1961 onward

SS is 1980 to present

MVP is 1931 to present

RoY is 1947 to present. Also a good one to know.

Edit: The guy who picked Ty Cobb as a MVP winner made me look further into the MVP award.

A car company awarded a league MVP for both leagues from 1911 until 1914 (this is when Cobb won his AL MVP in 1911)

The leagues themselves awarded MVPs for these years:

AL (1922-1928)

NL (1924-1929)

Then the current award was established in 1931.

I thought about Bobby Jenks for my White Sox AS but his goofy ass wouldn't have looked right on the row with two black and white guys

would have had a pretty good rarity score but ruined it by putting Lance Parrish in the white Sox box instead of one to the right

but pleased with my decision the other day to memorize the 8 teams the Bonham Bullet pitched for.

Turns out, got a little lucky with Tekulve. Only an all star once in 1980. But holy shit. He appeared in 185 games across 1978 and 1979

I am sure I would have been able to get a lower rarity if I held out, but wanted to get an ode to the Rangers in there with David Freese.  Also I knew my Cubs/Cards pick wasn't going to be rare, but was on a catcher roll.  Expecting to see a lot of Lee Smith today since he can be used on a shit ton of sqaures

Teoscar Hernandez didn't work for Astros World Series winner. I knew he played one game for the 2017 Astros but apparently with no plate appearance he doesn't count.

I am curious if the guy below would work because he was awarded a ring, but looking at his baseball reference it doesn't show him as winning a WS from what I can tell.

That's why I just tried to go with the most obscure guy actually on the WS roster because I was worried how they were going to actually count it.

I'm kind of pissed because I had to start over after getting kiboshed on Tony Sipp.

Altuve looks like he is judging my soul.

I like how they added "WS ROSTER" during the day, likely because they got besieged by millions of irate emails about Nori Aoki, Tony Sipp, and Mike Fiers being counted wrong.

Probably had a shot at lower rarity if I thought about Toronto 200K guy longer.  Clemens and Halladay popped in my head and I figure both were pretty high options.

3 20-win seasons?  That's it?  I guessed C.J. Wilson and was also considering Nolan and Yu.  Those would have been wrong too.

Even without the miss, it was going to be a pretty high rarity.

Lots of Denny McLain today.

Quote

🎵Turn Turn Turn🎵  1968.  I was 12 years old.  A lot happen that year.  Denny McLain won 31 games.  The Mod Squad hit the air.  And I graduated from Hillcrest Elementary and entered Junior High School.   🎵Turn Turn Turn🎵

Dave Stieb never had a 200 K  season.  So let's make this a learning moment!

Stieb peaked at 198 in 1984.  None of the 8 pitchers receiving AL Cy Young votes that year had 200 K.  Meanwhile, over in the NL, 19-yo Dwight Gooden struck out 276.
