I guarantee if you polled coaches BV would be top 3.  Doesn’t mean he’s a good HC - he’s not.  But defensively he’s a top coach.  OU was horrendous til he came and Clemson was top 3 until he left.

It's really hard to say for me, personally. I guess because since Sark owns BV he looks average to below average, but when I see him against other teams he looks the part of a top-5 defensive coach. I don't know if it's mind games he's playing with himself when going against us or we're just that much more talented (using recruiting rankings).

I will say I do think he's a top-5 defensive guy. He just can't get over the hump against us, and he was a moron for letting Gabriel walk in favor of Arnold, who we all knew was asswater.

I really, really hope Maqueer is back next season. He's the gift that keeps on giving, and Muschamp will murder him.

He can thank 4-0 Sneaky Pete Gardere!

I was way too young to remember him, but a few months ago (maybe you?) someone corrected me about who went 4-0 against ou and I went down a rabbit hole on this guy. What an absolute stud. I came away with a new found respect.

Venables has the issue most good DC's who become head coaches have.  He hates offense deep down inside.  He thinks offensive players are pussies.  His entire running of the program favors the defensive side of the ball.  He's not smart enough to overcome those prejudices and field a team with a competent offense.  It will get him fired one day, hopefully several years down the road.

I don’t know how anyone can argue with this. When his HC tenure is over he will have multiple DC offers. Trajectory much like Muschamp.

Burnt Veggies is gone next year with an 8-4 or worse record including a loss to Texas.

Good news is he will be back and will add another tally loss to Texas. Bad news is there is no bad news because we want him and Elko to be at their current places until the fault lines crater earth.

Agreed. Think whatever you want about him as a HC, but he's a dominant DC.

Yep.  Damn I finally can sit on my couch and have a drink.  Has been nonstop since last Friday.  Definitely would be nice to have a a game to look forward to but can’t bitch about the year overall.
I was born in Lubbock so I’ll root for Tech mostly guilt free…

Interestingly enough, he has as many double-digit win seasons as Sark does at Texas, in one fewer year.
