Arch Manning: Doing his best JAG impression to fool scouts

I just cancelled my subscription to the Athletic about seven days ago. It's been garbage for years but every time I'd cancel, they'd offer me a 75% discount. They did that this time too, and I said fuck you. Good call.

Haven't read the article and don't plan to. The Athletic has been clickbait trash for a long time now. Not worth the time to read it even if it were free. Unfortunately they're getting a lot of clicks out of this one..

Is Stroh the worst lineman we’ve ever had?

Maybe not, but likely the [least successful] lineman that has ever started.

I don’t doubt that Stroh is giving his best, I just don’t know how he was ever recruited to play in Austin. I don’t get the feeling that he ever had a quick enough muscle twitch to play at the top level of college football.

His top 5 were Texas, aggy, Auburn, Pig, and Florida. The other four dodged a bullet.

i remember when GDGD just kept recruiting the greg dolan’s, charlie tanner’s, and buck burnette’s of the (central texas) world. just cherry picking every soft ass white boy from the austin area and calling it a day. jesus christ our o line recruiting was so bad for such a long time under mack and gdgd.

So based upon someone's track record he will win the Outland in 2027 as he anchors the Horns to the Joe Moore award.

To be fair Burnette was going to be good before he sent a retarded tweet.

Well, his mechanics suck. Maybe the OL hasn't helped but that's an area I only see when it's shit. The problem is we have a vested interest in Arch. Nearly 3 years in Sark's system and this is what we get? I'd take Caldwell or Lacey over this shitstorm. He's just not good or even average.

He can run. line up as a RB. He clearly can't sling the ball (hint, feet don't catch balls - destroying Wingo who missed some passes and anyone not named Livingstone on that).

Rant over, Arch sucks.

you do realize this is the problem with Arch? Maybe he's lined up for the pass, who knows. Ok elbow that's a slingshot pass at best. forearm way to low. Probably hit Wingo's feet. Dude is shocked for balls in his hands. This is how not to toss the ball.

Or energy expelled for a deep ball. Complete wasted motion, not good. Basic things.

Look at his legs, the force he has to make a weird slingshot toss. Proper arm position ...

We have eyes. We see him unable to make reads. We see him throw the ball at the feet of wide open receivers within ten yards of the line of scrimmage. We see him miss wide open receivers streaking downfield. We see terrible mechanics.

He won't be the starter here next year, and if he is, we won't be over .500

Lol. No one is saying dude is a flop. All we are saying is dude holds the ball too long and needs find his shorter routes. It's not that serious.

Yeah that's his most frustrating bad habit. Always wants to hit a hero throw deep. Multiple times last Saturday I found myself saying "throw the fuckin ball".

We all hate to admit the truth. I think he will start next year, shouldn't but his name does carry weight.

If he finishes the year the same way he’s played the first 5 games he should hit the portal

Texas fans get exponentially dumber every season

Yep I may deserve this, not the rest of you. I did my under and grad at Texas. Honestly you're right - brain lesions, spinal, etc. but I do trust the rest. So let's blame me, I won't remember.

Anyone advocating for any other QB on the roster is incredibly stupid.

Yep, Arch is solid. Great...wait not good against some regional Texas teams. You really think we could do worse? It comes down to horrible mechanics. I'd take any other QB on our roster and line Arch as a RB. Welcome to the show Caldwell or Lacey. Can you throw 10 yards to open guys, winner. Arch can't. Unfortunately his name is carrying this BS

I don't know shit, but I'm persuaded by @Thatguy

Many times, I've heard game analysts start a replay comment with, "QB Jones sees right away that the defense is in such and such. He knows there's pretty good chance he can hit Receiver Hayes in that spot vacated by..."

One doesn't have to be an expert. So the passing concept on that play is called smash. A lot of coordinators run it with a hitch and a corner route like this. The idea behind this concept is that you are reading the outside corner. If he is up and pressing we are trying to attack the area in red. However, if the outside corner is protecting that area by giving cushion to the outside receiver we throws the stick route with the idea that if we put it on him immediately he can get to the sticks. This is what it looks like.

Screenshot(16).thumb.jpg.2ab46a1bd9271a6846f781c8ca464bbc.jpg

However, Sarkisian runs his like this. Instead of the inside receiver running a corner route, he runs a fade instead. The fade does two things. First, if the outside corner is playing up and the space behind him is vacated, the fade release gives the QB the opportunity to let it go immediately. The other thing it does is, if the outside corner is playing off, and the ball is thrown properly, all the receiver has to do is release inside after the catch and it naturally puts Wingo between him and his defender. This is how it looks below.

Screenshot(17).thumb.jpg.d85938b19523566da9bb6ce2879538fd.jpg

So now that we know that let's look at the play again. We start out in 3x1 with the single to the boundary.

Screenshot(18).thumb.png.cd006489ace7de52aadbc81a1896836a.png

Arch motions the man out of the backfield and a defender goes with him. Now I want you to pay attention to where that man came from. That is 6"2.5 244lb sophomore inside linebacker Aaron Chiles Jr, who should starts btw.

Screenshot(20).thumb.png.454dea981935d2fd46fff58a47148aaa.png

Now you've forced Florida to declare man coverage. Remember what we said the read was. If the corner is pressing you throw the fade. If the corner is playing off we throw the stop route. Look at the corner below. Playing off right? Now Arch has all the information he needs for what to do. PLUS, he has a 244lb linebacker on Tre Wisner. Look at him shaking. Ten yards off the ball. That is a QB's dream. But if you are listening to Codexx. This play is dead in the water.

Screenshot(21).thumb.png.e080fe92bb719775e7617c8f627b9b7a.png

Again, if this ball is out here that LB is grabbing at ankles by the time he recovers. He breaks his route down 3 yards from the sticks and ole buddy is still 6-7 yards off in coverage. One doesn't have to be an expert. One simply has to have common sense.
