The pass by Max was a great move coupled by Oscar being WAY too tentative.

I don't know if I'd say tentative, more indecisive (splitting hairs). He got caught between defending Russell and getting on the racing line (which would have cut off Max). With Russell's rocketship start into 2nd, I don't even think he was worried about Max until it was too late.

A very good point.  Listening to George on the radio later in the race it sounded as if he was anticipating Oscar to push forward and George was going to either pass him or at least tag along and pass Max.

Friend texted me that Oscar should have gone old school and made up his mind to either win the corner or crash he and Max out, but I don't think most of the modern drivers think that way.

Max is the only one who does think that way

His biggest title threat at the moment is Lando not Max. (Unless this week’s upgrades hold going forward). Gifting Lando a top three with he and Max getting a DNF would be the worst possible scenario he could have had this weekend.

Mathematically yes and Lando does have the equal car right now, but Lando doesn't have the same mindset and I would not be surprised at the end of the year the top two are not Oscar and Max.

Holy cow that was some move by Max.  He's just so damn good and it's way more impressive watching him when he's not in the dominant car.  He definitely got lucky with the VSC, and sort of unlucky with the actual safety car that tightened up the pack, but I don't think there was any way anyone was going to get around him at the end.  A really impressive drive.

Was glad to see Ferrari have a nice race.  Agree with VAB, they've got to get something going during qualy.

Anyway, on to my favorite race of the year, the Beautiful Procession.

If the McClaren's get pulled back to the pack by the changes that go in to effect in Spain, I don't think Lando will be in the hunt for the championship by the end of the season.

This.  The post race interviews were good too.  Oscar giving props to Max and acknowledging that he, Oscar, made a mistake there... Max acknowledging the assists from VSCs and Safety Cars.  Fun race.

Time for the grand procession but...mandatory two pit stops.

We went, not last season but in 2023. It was a lot of fun. We were sitting right across from the pits so we could see some interesting stuff. It’s certainly not a race for race fans. It’s more of a check-list event.

Drove to Nice, train from Nice. Getting out of Monaco was a pain in the ass with over 100,000 people trying to get through to a train. Perhaps the funniest part was as we relaxed after the race and allowed most of the crowd to leave we couldn’t help but laugh at the people trying to weasel their way through to certain parties and yachts.

It was fun. I’ll watch from the couch this year. Last year I watched on a big screen TV at a beach bar about 100 miles away and that was a lot of fun as well.

Put me down for “more grass and gravel.” Doubt we hear about track limits tomorrow. And ditto RE Gasly & Albon.

More evidence Piastri is a future WDC. Dude is damn quick and seems so steady emotionally; win or lose he’s exactly the same. And has there been a better driver decision than dumping Alpine for McLaren?

Agreed,  there is nothing wrong with a track that punishes them for not staying on track.

Why paint the damn lines and far better than someone cutting a corner, we get 5 minutes of drivers whining about giving back positions, and then stewards have to make a decision.

Much simpler, cut the corner, catch the grass and go sideways or spin out in the gravel and get buried and your race is over for today.

A damn site better and far better to watch on television than from some parking lot.

100% the track should punish mistakes and should instantly, automatically penalize track limits violations.

It's okay to occasionally give him credit when he absolutely deserves it.

Yeah Max is a fucking dog.
