I used to do that - sometimes I'd push both ways, sometimes I'd push one way, pull the other.

The "knees over toes" dude got me into pulling the sled back.  Really helped my minor knee pain.  And it sucks.  Generally things that suck are worth doing in the gym.  Like that MF'ing assault bike....

First time in a month with my trainer next wed, NOT excited. She’s going to whip my ass.  Btw, she makes me push and pull the sled. 3 sets of each as one station of 3. Do 3 sets of multi stations in an hour if that makes sense. Rarely “enjoy” it.

I think this is going to be a whole thing. I’m already thinking about buying shit for it, getting one of those backpacks you can stick a kid in. Some goody shoes and a camelbak. I think I want a slightly longer walk and I think I can up the weight. Bizarre sticking 30 lb in a backpack and breaking a sweat and then realizing 7 months ago I was carrying more than that much extra around with me 24/7.

but what a pleasant way to get some exercise in. Saw some cows, listened to some music, walked by a creek.

Rucking is the way.  Just carrying weight.  Consistently carrying weight.  Ever seen a fat dudes calves.  They're massive.  Ever seen a heavy dude that's lost a ton of weight.  They're legs are strong AF.

okay let's talk protein intake....

I'm now in my 6th month of routine HIIT and resistance training. I'm well off the floor and now adding weight. close to leg press my full body weight, I've doubled my single arm row lifts, my curls and triceps extensions are double at least, etc. etc. I want to stay lean, more definition that pushes the age markers like minor dimpling and sagging on my thighs and upper arms back as muscle tone shows, modest muscle growth, mostly just a toned, fit, tennis player look.  I'm well on my way and seems like I'm probably 6 months from hitting my goals (giving 2x a week for actual weight training 12 months to materialize).

so with that, protein intake...

I think I'm way under but wanted a double check.  googles and chatgpt suggests on work out days 160g of protein. that's crazy to me. I think a normal day I'm under 100g and workouts I've only recently gotten to 100g.

what do you guys do?

I’m aiming for 150g or so, but that’s with using whey supplements. I’ll make a shake after workouts / cycling or when I’m hungry and want a snack. I’m currently 209 and want to settle around 195. There’s no way I can maintain 200g of protein a day. My body doesn’t like it.

It takes whey powder for me to get to 100g !! But it’s good to know 200g doesn’t work for you. Not sure if 150-160g will for me.

The study by Dekker et al (PMID: 35331517), and Alan Aragon expanded upon it further; recommend that operating under the presumption of normal-weight individuals (not a big ol fatty) that are physically active, daily protein intake should be 0.7-1.0 gram per pound of desired body weight.

I take in 240g of protein a day with no shakes.

I've never been big on breakfast, but I get 20g in a morning smoothie, then mix in another 20g in my coffee with a little almond milk instead of creamer, for 40g in the morning. I find that with that base, I can get the other 80-100g pretty easily throughout the rest of the day. The biggest key for me is to be mindful of excess calories and focus on lower calorie protein-dense foods. Once that clicked and I stuck with it, I looked and felt leaner instead of like I was adding bulk.

Word to the wise: when you increase your protein, make sure you get enough fiber to keep things moving.
