8-10 position players?  or are you including pitchers?   I'm assuming Max, Galvan are gone.

Jason Flores, Mendoza, Williams, Rodriguez, Volantis, Chamberlain, Borba, Walker and Burns are all underclassmen we should want back.

Doesn’t even include the draft eligible guys like Harrison, Ruger, Galvan, Belyeu that would obviously be welcomed back with open arms.

What if he actually hit .280 with 12 HRs? .410 ob% and 47 rbis?

Plus he just about single-handedly won a post-season game with his bat.  Yeah, his defense sucks, but that can improve, and he didn't get the credit he deserved this year.

Can you elaborate?  Is Sark cooling on the idea of him playing baseball or is this something else?

I'm just saying he is a wildcard because he is going to miss development time playing football so who knows how he progresses. That said, he's obviously shown enough that he has a good chance to start in the OF regularly assuming we don't have someone better.

Ah.  Yeah, I've seen enough.  Dude can play.  Beyond that, his attitude is infectious.  (I won't lie, I can't wait to see how that plays out on the football field.)

Maryland SS Chris Hacopian is visiting Texas today and will be at Arkansas tomorrow. This on the heels of the Texas A&M visit.

Aggies are running third in this race based on what I have been told

Amazing bat by every metric and hit well in their 2 series vs tournament teams. Can’t put a .910 fielder at short though

.910?  yikes.

Becker (UVA SS that was on campus this weekend) ain’t much better at .925.

Trying to find a SS in the portal is like trying to find a LT in the portal in football. The good ones are either being kept by their existing teams or hold the most leverage in the portal.

Maybe there is a world where they look to bring in a 2B then let Mendoza/Rodriguez battle it out at SS? Not what I would do but just brainstorming.

I think you can deal with a little worse fielder as long as the fielder isn't as shitty at the bat as Flores was batting .176 in conference and low .200s overall

At SS? I don't think so. Flores was not a good fielder. I think having a great fielding SS that hits in the low .200s is a fine sacrifice.

Obviously I would prefer we find the next Seth Johnston, but a great glove up the middle is pretty essential.

I don't know what his range is, but you might take a .910 when that includes errors on balls the guy gets to. You can keep a more pristine fielding average if you never get to the ball.

Flores was an okay fielder, but his errors always seemed to happen at the worst possible time.

One rarely remembers errors committed in the 8th inning of an 11-2 game.  The issue with Flores is his complete meltdown at the plate during the last half (1/3?) of the season.  I think he finished something like 8 for 62.

Both are the problem. We could tolerate him being sub-par in the field so long as he was batting .350.

But it is more than just making errors, he also consistently failed to make great plays. And doing things like letting a ground ball to the SS become a double by misplaying it. Not an error technically but...

honestly, at Texas, I can't get behind shit in the field at SS. if the guy is that good at the plate find another place for him. give me a 270-300 average (at least) but .980 in the field at SS. I wouldn't go below either at that position. not at Texas.

Man, I grew up watching Ozzie Smith at SS.  The guy was the best fielder in the game and hit about 0.230 or so most years.  Nobody gave a damn.  He was the Cardinals' leader and essentially their MVP.

There are all kinds of mistakes an infielder can make that don't show up in the stats.

I thought I was the only one that remembered that.  Horrible

Let’s just pony up for 2 years of Cunningham and our problems are all solved

But it's also important to note that the 34 can all be scholarship players so the reduction isn't that big of a deal.

Isn’t the proposed total scholarship count at 25 for baseball at Texas? Or are you talking about splitting them so everyone will be on some form of athletic scholarship?

I think I confused the new revenue sharing rule of 34 baseball scholarships for this. Now seeing the 25 we are going to allot which is up from 11.7. It’s smart we’re staying at 85 for football to get more distribution.

Up until now, women's basketball has had more full scholarships than men's basketball?

Yes. It was part of how we evened things out with the huge number of football scholarships.

Looking at this list makes the puzzling decision to introduce women's rowing makes a lot of sense.

Wish we had men's soccer.

He shouldn’t have had to play 3rd. He has to cut down on the Ks but he’s fine to have in the lineup

Narrator: He was in fact not batting .350

He did, in fact, bat .350 last year.

Which is why I said he WAS batting .350 and not IS batting .350.

You have to get to the ball to make an error. Flores has zero range at all.

Is last year this year? No. He’s ass. One year wonder maybe he can go play for Pierce or go pro but his ass is not good enough for a championship roster

Well don’t you know, aggy leads for every player in the portal. Earley will have to break some kids’ hearts

A&M going to the portal for the SS is interesting because Kent had a decent year but he isn’t some slam dunk top draft pick.

Maybe his dad said I ain’t letting you go back after watching this shit show.

I think he’s tied with Arod for errors on the season. The guy made plenty of errors. I was more so calling out the plays like the Aggie regional last year.

But I agree Flores lacks the athleticism/range for short and it’s probably why 3rd is where he’ll play at the next level. The amount of balls that went off his glove in the hole or slow rollers he wasn’t quick enough to get out was so, so bad. Against UTSA in game 2, the ball to 5 hole in the 9th highlights his lack of range in terms of what we’ve seen throughout his time here.

Yep. Was about to say the same thing.  Crazy he went from an AA to pretty bad in big situations on defense and horrible at the plate.

That is how it turned out.

I meant that last year we were able to put up with his fielding issues because he was the best hitter on the team. Since now his hitting has dropped off, he is now just a bad player.

So, most sports “can” increase scholarship limits or “will” increase the limits?  Will we increase limits in all of those sports?

That’s kinda the issue among schools.  It’s up to them.  Word is UVA lost their baseball coach because they weren’t looking to be competitive with the number of scholarships for baseball initially.
