That's what I think, and I wonder if what we didn't see was some sort of deal he cut with Freddy. Otherwise it's one man against how many bikers?

Hence why he got Brandis/Ruffalo to promise him that when it was all over to make sure Maeve is exonerated from any wrong-doing. Sounded like Robby knowing he wasn't going to live through what he's got in mind.

They've done an amazing job of painting Robbie as a sympathetic character...

he robs people at gunpoint ..but they're way worse pieces of shit than he is.

He kidnapped a kid...but it was an accident and he's really nice to him.

He held a CIA officer at gunpoint...but he let him go.

- Everybody called Grasso as the mole. Taking credit for calling your shot is a helobious move.

- That said is didn’t see him being Damon in The Departed level involved in the Dark Hearts. Text warning them in real time is just asking to get caught even on a burner. The only way Grasso slides is if Jayson dies and he’s charged with investigating himself.

- Perry didn’t want to kill Eryn. So what was his plan? Jayson probably kills her if Perry brings her to him. Good, tense scene but one those accidental deaths that works out pretty well for the bad guys.

- I think Robbie’s plan was to have the cops surprise Freddy and the bikers at his cabin. If I’m not mistaken he took the china with him when he did the cold water thing. We didn’t see the whole conversation with Freddy (I think), and we didn’t see Freddy and Jayson’s negotiation. Maybe just maybe Robbie is working with Freddy. He’s the only guy that can buy the china and kill Jayson.

- If that’s it for Sam and Maeve it’s a little anti-climatic, but certainly the most reasonable ending for their characters.

- What I like most about Ingelsby’s take on Heat is that Robbie is at best a C+ level criminal and Tom should be riding a desk. This isn’t De Niro and Pacino doing the super criminal vs super cop thing. The car scene was the perfect scene to bring them together.

they didn't show the robbie and freddy meeting (besides them sitting down). that was intentional. all we heard is that freddy demanded "double" what the original deal was supposed to be.

also you don't need to spoil your responses on a non-netflix show/episode that's already aired. if you come in this thread after an episode has aired, you deserve what you get.

Maybe Robbie told Freddy about the Dark Hearts killing his brother and Cliff and it touched a nerve. There’s a reason they showcased his new teeth monologue earlier in the season.

i think it's entirely possible. i think robbie still has unsettled business with the dark hearts and it doesn't much matter if he's alive or dead to see them suffer.

The show has been pretty straight forward so far but this may be the time they finally throw a twist at us.  Her "we have a problem" phone call right after ruffalo left could have as easily been to her contact in the state police about trying to hunt down the mole.

Look at this guy.

I thought Eryn was going to come up from the water with a big rock and brain Perry.  I feel like she could have gotten the drop on that feeble old man.

I’m glad they made Grasso the mole and not some crazy double-secret mole situation.

as mentioned, feels like we’re gonna get a few flashbacks in the next episode(s) as we’ve already got the players in place for the final showdown.

I still think Maeve has a key role to play in the outcome.  It would be disappointing if her arc is essentially done for the season.  Just not sure how they insert her back in the “action.”

Is the showrunner a WWE fan?  Robby’s kids’ names a nod to some fallen superstars “Wyatt” and “Harper”?

in the year of our lord, 2025.

they should've made it a photo booth pic from where maeve works or something halfway believable.

Pelphrey has been making media rounds lately. He was on the Rich Eisen show today. Rich asked him if Task was a “one and done show”? Pelphrey replied with a not necessarily and there could be a second season.

I like the show at 7 episodes. I’m not sure what it could say with another season.

if task were to continue to future season(s) it would more likely be the same ruffalo-led task force being assigned to a different group of crooks, a la line of duty, unforgotten, and so forth.

it's a weird question for him to have to answer, since his story will conclude in s1, but i'm sure he has instructions.

i'm okay with another season, but only with a completely different task force other than ruffalo.  that team is boring and wet behind the ears.  grasso will be dead or in prison, and the other two are uninteresting.

Maybe the following seasons will be Robbie playing the stupid version of Dr Richard Kimble, and they spend the next 3 years chasing him down...

Just plug Ruffalo and Pelphrey in the next True Detective as a palate cleaner from whatever that was last TD season.

Just caught up.  I love it.  I don't know how anyone could dislike Mark Ruffalo, he's like a darker version of Paul Rudd.  I think he has talent.

For me, Maeve is crushing it among these cast members.  She just commands the screen.

I agree that this could be a True Detective type franchise, and Ruffalo should continue on.

Oh, it only took me 4 episodes to figure out that was Martha Plimpton.  There was a vocal inflection and twist of her lips when I smacked myself on the forehead and thought "of course".  She has . . . uh . . . aged.

Good episode

Spoiler

But...the police had no interest in hunting for the duffel bag full of fentanyl?  And even if they didn't care about that, they figured that the two guys that are subject to a huge man hunt wouldn't go looking for it?

It seems to me that Jayson would assume that Eryn turned informant on the gang.

Prediction for next week - Some kind of The Departed shootout where Perry and Jayson and Ruffalo end up dead and Grasso ends up the hero.  Nah, not really.

I can no longer recommend Prestige TV - Task. They inexplicably added Simmons and he makes the whole podcast way too jokey for a serious drama. He spent 10 minutes making fun of Sam. Didn’t stick around to interview Ingelsby either. He’s a real pro.

The Watch is much better. Doesn’t hurt that both hosts are Philly natives.

Spoiler

- Grasso had a chance at redemption. Chose to be the devil instead. The actor is so good we’re invested in him, and then he rips our guts out.

- The Bullseye patch after Lizzie died was rough. She was too good for this world.

- I don’t understand biker politics, but Jayson ignored a direct order from Perry and members of the gang died because of it. If that happened on The Sopranos, somebody is getting whacked in a hurry. But there’s Jayson and Perry later in the episode drying up some river trout.

- There’s gotta be tremendous heat on the entire club now. Looks like some shit is going to get handled in the next episode.

- So who did Robbie sell the china to? Logically it’s Shelly’s contact. She did give the money to Maeve. That said, it’s a stretch that Robbie outsmarted Freddie.

- The money + Robbie floating was a great twist.

- Ingelsby all but confirmed Season 2 in his interview on Prestige TV. It sounds like Ruffalo is already attached. I’m here for it, but I hope S1 was already in the can before Ingelsby came to this decision.

Wouldn’t the police assume that Jayson has the bag?  Tom knows Robbie had it, he found Robbie dying, and knows Jayson got away. Pretty safe assumption to think that Jayson stabbed him a got the bag, no?

Glad Maeve got the cash. She deserves it for being willing to put up with Wyatt.

Good to see that dude’s wife is a good person by selling the dope and delivering the cash to Maeve. Hope Robbie told her to take a piece and escape.

A lot still to wrap in this finale next week

really should’ve been the finale.

This. I actually thought it was until I saw that there were previews. Thought it was an extremely satisfying ending as is. Hoping actual ending isn’t a let down.

I feel like something is off with the math on this show-if you have the ability to move $1m worth of widgets that presumably command a big margin in the market, it would seem like the members of the motorcycle gang would have professionalized more than they have.

At least in The Wire we see they have financial and legal professionals backing them up.  Over here we got Perry and Jayson on their own trying to find $1m worth of fentanyl?  I’d have every member of the crew, their wives, kids and cousins scouring that river in scuba gear.

Ah maybe so.  I thought Tom was close enough to see Robbie throw the bag but come to think of it he probably didn't come up until later.  There was a lot happening pretty fast.

i think perry was trying to help jayson stay in power, and this type of public fuckup would've complicated that.

i felt like it was fairly obvious it was the dude who the husband kind of knew, but she actually grew up with. it was her idea to make up for the earlier shit, and she said she could get it done. i wouldn't call it "outsmarting freddie" as much as going around him out of necessity.

Don’t wait, it’s pretty intense in a way that rewards the weekly roll-out.

I think contriving to have a second season is what could lead to a letdown of a finale. This is a story that should be told completely in this season. As for Perry and Jayson, I look at it as Perry having a sort of mental fugue from the accidental killing of Eryn, and the narration of the beating plus seeing in person how unhinged Jayson can be, coupled with his comments about her being his Northstar or some much, has made clear in Perry's mind the danger that he is in.

Posted (edited)

Doesn't Perry outrank Jayson?  Not saying that would prevent Jayson from going berserk if he knew what happened to Eryn, but especially since all the "Mothers" met and decided to kill Jayson anyway, it seems like maybe Perry ought to just bide his time.

He does. But they've established that Jayson can and will fly off the handle, especially when it comes to Eryn. I mean, he knew about her cheating, and as far as we can tell, he didn't do anything to her and still worships her.
