This thread is such great evidence that the playoff has not made being a college football fan even a little bit better and every potential fix makes it worse. Pressing reset and going back to the pre-BCS bowl tie-ins would be the fix. We need a Butlerian jihad against the CFP and ESPN talking heads who try to convince us that the sport is somehow lesser without a PO.

Guaranteed spots are stupid.

BYU will drop behind Miami and Texas if they lose next week. If bama we’re to decimated by Georgia then it’s 3 teams for 1 spot between 10-3 bama, 10-2 Miami and 9-3 Texas. Texas has 2 wins over playoff teams (OU and aggy) bama has 1 (Georgia), Miami has 1 (Domers).
bama has a shitty loss to Florida State. Texas has a shitty loss to Florida. Miami has 2 quasi shitty but not bad losses to unranked Louisville and unranked SMU.
if it came out that way and championship weekend ended with big wins by Tech, Ohio State and Georgia that would be the starting point for rankings that could get Texas into the playoffs if the committee wanted to with not much backlash. I’d prefer over Miami in the next rankings but if was this that would be ok.
it would be trying to draw an inside straight (maybe an inside straight flush) but it would be possible. Behind Utah and/or Vandy and no chance.

They don't punish teams for losing CCGs. Bama is in.

How bout we have a 12 or 16 team playoff where the best teams are in it.  No guarantees to conferences for slots, no G 5 shit.  Just the best teams.  I look at who will be in this year's playoffs and I think Texas (a flawed team in its own right) could beat half if not more of that field.  Miami (who is also shit) I would take over quite a few of the playoff teams.

Not saying you aren't correct but it's a crock of shit.  Maybe the NFL should make sure there are teams always represented from certain states in the playoffs to not upsett congress.

They also say they won’t punish you for scheduling up and losing an OOC game but here we are. They can do whatever they want.
do I think that would be likely?  No. Is it possible?  Sure. All but the dumbest of human beings are open to the idea that gaining more information can make a difference in how you think.
something would have to happen to reset that thinking. There will be like 5 or 6 games played 3 of which have some connection to Texas or Miami and 2 of them directly  involving bama and BYU.

2-loss Miami, Utah and ND ahead of 2-loss Vandy is so dumb if you look at schedule strength. They're getting punished for their name being Vandy and for the Utah AD being head of the committee.

Texas is 100% getting punished for playing tOSU. As Sark said, Texas would be a shoe-in if that game was against a cupcake. It was also tOSU's closest game by far all season, only a 7-point loss on the road. Texas is 2-2 vs current/final top-10 teams and 3-2 vs top 15. Remove tOSU and it's still a tough schedule that no other bubble team can match.

Bubble team records vs top 10/15 along with Massey SOS:
Texas: 2-2 / 3-2 / 5
Bama: 1-1 / 2-1 / 13
ND: 0-1 / 0-2 / 40
OU: 1-1 / 1-2 (assuming Michigan drops) / 10
Vandy: 0-1 / 0-2 / 19
Utah: 0-1 / 0-2 / 42
BYU: 0-1 / 1-1 / 39
Miami: 1-0 / 1-0 / 48

Imma, don't be stupid.   The expansion to 12 teams was approved by the 11 member CFP board managers back in 2022.

Here is who comprised that body at the time....tell me again how this present set of circumstances was  happening without agreement from conferences outside the SEC and B1G

Members of the CFP Board of Managers are Timothy Caboni – Conference USA (President, Western Kentucky); Jim Clements – Atlantic Coast Conference (President, Clemson); Gordon Gee – Big 12 Conference (President, West Virginia); Jack Hawkins – Sun Belt Conference (President, Troy); Rev. John Jenkins – President, Notre Dame (Independent); Kristina Johnson – Big Ten Conference (President, Ohio State); Mark Keenum (chair) – Southeastern Conference (President, Mississippi State); Kirk Schulz – Pacific-12 Conference (President, Washington State); Satish Tripathi – Mid-American Conference (President, Buffalo); Gerald Turner – American Athletic Conference (President, SMU); Keith Whitfield – Mountain West Conference (President, UNLV).

that is funny.  ND wouldn't make the NCAA basketball tournament with that resume. the committee is going to make a statement one way or another next week.

Some interesting takeaways -

  • tOSU SoS = 58 and will be 42 after they play IU
  • IU SoS = 41 and will be 16 after they play tOSU
  • Texas has strongest SoS in top-20

I could see Bama getting dropped out in two different ways. One, if they lose and BYU wins. Two, if they lose by a lot to UGA and Texas is ranked #12 or better going into the final rankings (this is less likely). The real crazy shit is gonna be if Bama wins and BYU wins... is ND or OU or TT getting kicked out?

No.. I mean complete domination not a one score game in the 4Q that turns on an onside kick. Not a game box score watchers call dominant

The current setup has a lot more teams still jockeying at the end and intrigue spread out.  But, can you imagine the champ games next weekend in the old BCS era.  tOSU vs Indiana would be an elimination game, UGA vs Bama would be a win and you're in game for UGA.  Tech would be playing BYU hoping UGA slipped up vs Bama (not far fetched given their history) and they could sneak in.

Goes to show how pointless these champ games have become in the current situation.

100%, only a smooth brained retard would call the UGA game a blowout.

At the very least, it would put to the test this notion that “Conference Championship Game results don’t matter in the 12-team playoff era”.  I could see Bama getting the boot.  Tech too.

Yup.

I mentioned this in the other thread, but Bama's loss at FSU is objectively worse than ours at Florida.

If they lose the SEC title game it's going to really test the whole "won't punish conference title game losers" stuff.

It will be interesting.  SMU lost on a game-ending kick to Clemson last year; it was close. I think if Bama gets its doors blown off as they did to FSU, that might change the calculus.   Of course, UGA has beaten Bama head-to-head exactly once in their last 10 meetings.

Watching undeserving, mediocre teams get a chance in the playoffs is ridiculous.  They need to let the BEST 12 teams play for a championship.  Personally, I would rather Texas cancel all tough OOC games and replace them with cupcakes...take the Indiana/Texas A&M route and have the chance at a championship.  Nobody cares who wins the Random Crap Bowl, and I wouldn't mind if Texas declines an invitation this year.  Cancelling next year's Ohio State game and declining a bowl bid would cost college football a ton of money, which would create a backlash that would be fun to watch.  It would be more fun to watch than whatever random G5 team, ACC team, BYU, or even Oklahoma play in the playoffs.

No one cares, or probably remembers the Vandy officiating that prevented that game from being a blowout.  That bullshit could be the difference in getting in.   I can't remember if the SEC responded to the inquiry from Sark.

Laughable fucking bullshit. Beat the #3 team, move up two spots. Coaches are retarded. This whole system of polling is retarded.

Ergo, college football is . . .

AP poll just got released. Same bullshit. #14, moved up two spots. Behind Vandy who we beat head to head. Burn it all down.

I wrote this in the other thread, but we would've moved up 1 spot if we had a bye week, with Michigan losing to drop below us. So we got awarded one spot for beating the undefeated, #3 team in the country. Cool cool.

Yeah, you better bet Sark and CDC are pissed right now. It's really a huge fucking scam. My OU buddies are thankful we arent in and they think we should be in over them. It's laughably obvious to anyone who watches football that we are being treated unfairly.

No, we aren't. We're being treated like a team with three losses.

The very process of Vegas trying to enforce its 3 point spread that game was always going to come back to fuck us.  It took away a ranked win beat down and as everyone knows they only look at the final score.

What a loser victim mentality. OU has its worts for sure, but how about you just don’t lose to suck ass Florida and quit bitching about how unfair you’re being treated.

Texas is a cunt hair from being a 7-5 football team. Shut the fuck up already.
