They are, but nobody would have agreed to this without them.  It's why I still think eventually the SEC and B1G say fuck it and go do their own thing at some point.

Just do away with conferences at this point. Split the current D1 format into 1st division and 2nd division and implement a relegation system. This takes the subjectivity completely out of placing playoff teams.

2-loss Miami, Utah and ND ahead of 2-loss Vandy is so dumb if you look at schedule strength. They're getting punished for their name being Vandy and for the Utah AD being head of the committee.

Texas is 100% getting punished for playing tOSU. As Sark said, Texas would be a shoe-in if that game was against a cupcake. It was also tOSU's closest game by far all season, only a 7-point loss on the road. Texas is 2-2 vs current/final top-10 teams and 3-2 vs top 15. Remove tOSU and it's still a tough schedule that no other bubble team can match.

Bubble team records vs top 10/15 along with Massey SOS:
Texas: 2-2 / 3-2 / 5
Bama: 1-1 / 2-1 / 13
ND: 0-1 / 0-2 / 40
OU: 1-1 / 1-2 (assuming Michigan drops) / 10
Vandy: 0-1 / 0-2 / 19
Utah: 0-1 / 0-2 / 42
BYU: 0-1 / 1-1 / 39
Miami: 1-0 / 1-0 / 48

Here's a table showing last week's CFP poll, ranging from Texas at #16 to Ohio State at #1, and the records of each team against the rest of the Top 25 field, along with any unranked losses.

Some notes:

  • Only three teams have faced four or more Top 25 teams: Texas (3-2), Alabama (3-1), and Oklahoma (3-2).
  • Seven teams have faced two or fewer Top 25 teams: Miami (2-0), BYU (1-1), Ole Miss (1-1), Oregon (1-1), Texas A&M (1-1), Indiana (1-0), and Ohio State (2-0). These were baby soft schedules.
  • Michigan is now 0-3 against all three of its Top 25 opponents, which raises a couple of questions: Why were they ranked ahead of Texas? Why were they ranked at all other than the yellow "M" on their helmets? They should drop out completely after their drubbing from yesterday, which *should* make Ohio State, Oklahoma, and USC have one fewer Top 25 wins on each of their resumes (I'm sure the committee will somehow justify keeping Michigan in the Top 25, though).
  • Tennessee is now 0-4 against the Top 25 after losing to Vandy yesterday. Again, why were they even ranked last week? Will the committee finally drop them from the Top 25 now? If so, then Vanderbilt, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Georgia would all have one fewer Top 25 wins. Will the committee do the right thing?
  • Where will the committee rank Pitt, now 1-2 against the Top 25, after last night's loss to Miami? Pitt's only victory came against Georgia Tech, which now has ZERO wins against the Top 25 with losses to both Pitt and Georgia. Should the Yellow Jackets also drop out?
  • And, finally, Texas is the ONLY team currently ranked BELOW every single Top 25 opponent it’s faced, regardless of the results on the field. How the fuck can Texas still be behind Vandy?

The committee has a chance to make some of this right on Tuesday night before the conference championship games, but will they?

Wow. I always laugh at people complaining about the polls because usually the views are biased. But Texas being at 14 while OU is at 8 and Vandy is at 12/13, is ridiculous.  Something's up.

Your team is ass and will be destroyed the first time they play a real team in the playoffs. Have fun with Venables long term, this is his ceiling, took a minor miracle to scrape into the playoffs this year. You will be relegated to SEC fodder within a couple of seasons and start the cycle of trying to find a coach worth a damn.

If ou played our schedule plus the RRS against us, they would be 8-4 at best.

And Oklahoma lost to Ole Miss, a team that, if you look at the table above, has only played you and Georgia. They're arguably really overrated, given their schedule.

You lost to us. And it was a beatdown. You couldnt even move the ball LOL. You all have a nice defense, I will give you that, but outside of that, you all were outclassed. Again, this is your high water mark. You will lose to us again next year and Venables will be gone within 2 seasons.

That Florida loss hurts bad, no doubt. And yet, again, Texas is currently ranked below every single Top 25 opponent it's faced, regardless of wins and losses. We're getting fucked.

We can’t move the ball on anyone. Texas isn’t special in that regard. 2 win Arkansas moved the ball just fine against Texas. As did 5 win Mississippi State and 5 win Kentucky.

Seems like it has been a multi year problem for Venables. 3 out of 4 years and no TDs against Texas. Seems like the man doesnt know offense. Kicked out Dillon Gabriel to let Arnold be the starter. Have fun losing to us again next year. Maybe yall can score a TD this time?

Michigan is 0-3 against the Top 25, and Tennessee is 0-4. Neither Tennessee nor Michigan should be ranked at this point. The dumb sports writers were smart enough to drop Tennessee entirely from the Top 25 today, but the even dumber coaches still have both ranked.

Those are two of Oklahoma's "quality" wins when in reality they're 1-2, with only a win against Alabama and two losses to Texas and an overrated Ole Miss.

Texas is a cunt hair from being a 7-5 football team. Shut the fuck up already.

…says the team that cheated and benefited from referee fuckery and was still a cunt hair away from losing to Auburn.

If this is all the price we need to pay for OU to keep its dipshit coach around for a few more years then so be it

Does the committee really care about not punishing conference championship game losers or did Texas and SMU still have better records than the other teams vying to get in and lost close games. The  only thing for certain is the committee values conference affiliation and overall record then sorts out the details and comes up with explanations after the choices have been made.

Texas fans are in a precarious position: you feel the need to talk trash about the seasons that Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma had, while also needing to uphold those wins as proof they belong in the playoff.

We trashed all 3 teams because we are actually a pretty good team. Your seasons were decent and further proof we are top 10. It's UGA and OSU's season anyways. I doubt anyone else can really win it.

I'm not "talking trash," simply pointing out facts. Texas beat Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma on the field in a convincing fashion. Texas is inarguably a better team than all three, yet it's somehow ranked lower than each.

Your entire season hinges on a single victory against Alabama (who lost to Florida fuckin' State) and two "quality" losses against Ole Miss and Texas. If Texas is as undeserving as you say, your loss to us shouldn't even count as a quality one, then, I guess. And who the fuck has Ole Miss beat? Their only "good" win is against...you.

Take Texas out of the equation for a moment and give us your best justification for OU ranking in the Top 10 after going 1-2 against the current AP Top 25, especially when that single win against Michigan has none.

Vanderbilt hasn't beaten a single AP Top 25 team, while Notre Dame, BYU, and Miami have only one apiece. Yet all four are ranked ahead of Texas, which has the same total Top 25 wins as all four teams combined.

Bama is in. They didn't punish any of the CCG losers last season (and nor should they - ever) - even with an opportunity to put Bama in ahead of SMU.

The committee says a lot of shit that they go back on.  That's a constant.

It’s so fucking close between 12-13-14. Look at that spread versus 12 and 11 or 11 and 10 for example. This is a VERY soft 14.
the committee can and should put us at 12. If that happens there is a chance. Not a good one, but we didn’t have a good chance in 2023 until the conference championship games changed a lot of perceptions. It was going to be undefeated Washington, Michigan, Georgia and FSU until it wasn’t.

It's pretty simple , if the committee is only going to look at w/L we might as well fire them all and just use computers.

Either way if they are going to smooth brain this 3 > 2 loss bs totally missing the field for the magnitude of our wins then we should schedule the games accordingly.

I say this as someone who loves big early season match ups , but if the committee is going to act brain dead then we should be playing rice instead of blue bloods until the TV dealers get their heads out of their asses

I mean if it’s bama 10, BYU 11 and Texas 12 you sure?  It’s not super likely or anything but again, they can do ANYTHING they want in there with no justification and I suspect Disney has a lot of sway in there. I’m not gambling on it.  I’m not counting on it. I’m just saying I’d like for just one time this year things to break our way around the country and see what that conversation looks and sounds like.
everyone said that non3 loss team can go as an at large but Bama will be 3 losses too. So, something will have to give. How that game (and all the others) look should absolutely matter.

But Bama's third loss will come in the SECCG, and that matters.

And Texas scheduled their loss in the preseason and they said that matters too. And, in a lot of ways TV will care more about maintaining early season games between heavyweights than conference title games going away.
that’s certainly the way I would expect it to go but data is data and we saw FSU bounced after a win in their title game when everyone watching felt it was obvious. Most likely is bama staying in no matter what. Next most likely is Miami taking their spot. Least likely is Texas. It’s a possibility greater than 0 is all I’m saying.

Dudes. Texas is out. Accept it. They are one of the best 12 teams in the country, and probably one of the top 5, but it doesn’t matter. The cosmic tumblers of the universe didnt align.
