In defense of Biyombo, he’s the freaking fourth string center behind Vic, Kornet and Olynyk. He should be getting Menkge Bateer like minutes. I don’t think they ever thought he’d be any sort of contributor to this team.

Mengke contributed by looking big and scary.

That felt like a "oh shit we partied a little too hard on Halloween" game.

Either way we need more bodies.

I don't know what the fuck that was from DV. It's crazy but at this point I'd take KJ over him if we had to get rid of one of them. I even felt that a little bit towards the end of last season.

Wemby. Idk. Shake it off.

I really, really hope the blood clots or the medications aren't interfering with Wemby

I’ve seen this said, that he looked lethargic and slow. Honestly, they left him out there for a while even though the game was well out of hand to work through whatever the double and triple teams were doing. I don’t know that he looked out of it to me, but maybe he did. I just don’t want to think about it I guess. I feel like if they noticed something was off, they wouldn’t have played him at all in the second half.

It was pretty evident to me that he was sluggish before and after tipoff

Maybe his wife is leaving him.

He's tended to look a little sluggish at times in the past - I think toting his frame around is just difficult. The entire offense in general was a mess last night, though. Wemby was still impactful/held serve when he was out there - he had a -3 compared to the rest of the starters that were -15 to -25. I mean what the fuck is Vassell's excuse? I barely noticed he was playing.

Yeah the logo is definitely not centered in that mockup.

As long as they don't screw up and write "SPUDS" on the court. Great googily moogily.

Or SLURS would be bad.

Fox isn’t on the injury report. Fucking finally.

Nevermind. He’s still on the official, just not on the ESPN one. Fuck me.

That margin for Prop B keeps getting smaller and smaller. Wtf, San Antonio?

There’s enough votes in now to know that Prop B will pass. Some people were smart enough to know when they are going fucked over. 53% of SA voters were not smart enough to know that apparently. This thing will be a disaster and ruin the city.

Yes. Ruined forever. Downtown San Antonio will heretofore become a ghost town and the entire city will have been thrown into the shitter by a 0.25% tax increase on tourists when they rent a fucking hotel room or rent a car. No more conventions. No more major league sporting events. No more downtown hotels and restaurants and conventions and tourists. We are sooooooooo fucked!!!!!! Game over, bitches.

Uber/lyft is going to be unaffordable now (bet you didn’t know the tax increase applied to those too). Regular SA citizens pay for that everyday and are now going to be priced out of those services. Hello even more drunk driving.

For fucks sake.  Rideshare isn’t subject to short-term motor vehicle rental tax.

Helobious is saying this will ruin the city...

I'll be right back. Just gonna go quit my job, sell my home and move my family back to San Antonio and ride the inevitable tsunami of economic and community prosperity.

The majority of SA voters actually did vote against it. It was voters in the outlying Bexar County areas that aren’t going to get fucked over by it that pushed it over the top.

I'm not sure why I'm doing this to myself and arguing with the biggest moron on this board and I won't even ask who you consider to be "SA voters" because you don't even know what area/roadways define the perimeter of downtown San Antonio. But if you go by the precincts that are inside Loop 410 (roughly the 3000 - 4000's) -- those are the ones who you would think are most directly impacted and who should definitely be considered SA voters... Prop B passed 79,403 to 69,974. That's 53% in favor. Those folks (i.e., the majority of SA voters) accounted for 60.5% of the total vote. The rest of the county? The other 97,333 voters who comprised 39.5% of the total vote in the "outlying Bexar county areas"? They went 50.5% for, 49.5% against.

Whatever. Run for your lives!!!! WE ARE RUINED!!!!  The drunk drivers are going to kill us all now that this 0.25% hotel tax is in place.

Billionaires can't be asked to pay for their own shit. They have to socialize it, so they take no risk and make all the gains.  If you can't see how it is fucked then you are the problem...

I'm glad it passed, and it seems like Holt and Gina have (at least publicly) buried the hatchet. It bodes very well for the Spurs Org. While I still believe the deal could have been more transparent, the silver lining is that we won't have to schlep it out to a godforsaken wasteland to watch the Spurs in action.

Im not disagreeing with you, but the Holt’s are probably the least wealthy among the NBA owners. I don’t think they’re billionaires. They’ve put in more than I thought they would on the stadium and project. It’s not perfect, but imo losing the Spurs (which probably would’ve been the direct consequence of prop B failing) would have been devastating…to me as someone who lives close to San Antonio. I mean, flying to fucking Las Vegas? Are you out of your goddamn mind?

The Spurs team is is worth at least 5 billion.

I will guarantee that ticket prices are going to increase to the point of pricing the average person who voted for this out of the market.  They might throw a bone every once in-while for some HEB night cheap seats (then they play the Kings or Hornets no doubt).

This is the last thing I'm going to say about all this crap and hopefully we can get back to winning basketball tonight against the got dam Lakers (if I can find a fucking ESPN stream - fuck you Disney and Google) instead of this political bullshit... but the Spurs are putting in a substantial amount of their own cash. Compare their deal to what OKC did for the Thunder or how other cities have bent over to keep their sports teams. So the deal itself seems pretty decent and there are still negotiations to be made. It's not really over with.

But beyond that, I don't think you can put a price on what the Spurs have meant to this city over the past 50 years. We are a one major league sports town. It just so happens also that the one major league team we have has been the model franchise in all of pro sports for the last 25ish of those years. They have also been fairly amazing when it comes to their commitment to the community and the type of organization they have run and people they have employed (notwithstanding Josh Primo's dick). The civic pride and cross-cultural impact that the Spurs have provided to this city is Incalculable.

This isn't as simple as a billionaire bailout/subsidy. This is something that is ingrained into the fabric of this city -- and not just the white folks on the northside. Believe me, you walk into any southside or westside neighborhood bar and they are ride or die Spurs fans. The Spurs are a huge part of their lives. I'll never forget being downtown after the 1999 championship. The streets are flooded. Me and my buddies are sitting in Commerce Street gridlock in my convertible. People are running around losing their shit in a good, way. This one scary ass gang banger looking dude comes up to me, gives me a high five and says, "Isn't this fucking awesome? Normally, you and me would never look at each other or talk to each other. But today? Man, we are all Spurs fans and brothers. Go Spurs Go!" And then he waded off into the crowd. The idea of San Antonio not having the Spurs is unfathomable to me.

The Spurs have had some of the highest priced seats in the league for years now, even with one of the shittiest corporate bases in the country. The average person has been priced out already. But no, there aren't going to be enough people to buy the tickets, especially since they are going to have the single biggest attraction in the sport for the next 15 years (injury or trade demand notwithstanding, god forbid). Who will attend the games when everybody has been killed by drunk drivers?

I'm a life-long Spurs fan from Houston who never left Austin after undergrad, and I still, til today, have no idea how I feel about the arena project. I feel like I don't believe either side as an observer. The Spurs skipping town at the first ballot loss on a new area seemed far-fetched. The Holts are Texans with a long history in SA who own a bunch of SA sports teams, not just the Spurs. Moving to Las Vegas seems like empty propaganda, and moving to Austin (to me), also seems far-fetched. The Spurs are still in prime position to take advantage of the burgeoning SA-Austin metroplex and don't need to plant themselves in Austin to do so. Packing up and moving goes against everything the organization prides itself on. Family. Loyalty. Trust.

I love SA as a city, and love to hang out around downtown and walk the riverwalk and Market Square. It feels like my Tejano home. Why updating a quiet, sleepy downtown to include a sports arena is a problem doesn't make sense to me. I've seen what the Rockets and Astros have in Houston, and although it's not perfect, there's ways to kill a couple hours before game time. I still don't get what the problem is in doing that for SA. And it seems to be mostly covered by taxes not imposed on residents, or paid for by the Spurs. I assume *if* there was overages they wouldn't amount to nearly the total cost and would hardly be an imposition on the residents anyway (which also assumes the Spurs just gave the middle finger to the city and went back on their word to pay).

Anyways. What a weird few months. I still don't understand why the org was so against independent monitoring, but hopefully I don't have to hear about it a decade from now. GSG. Can't wait to experience the new Spurs arena. I'll be at the old one on Saturday to hopefully see Sochan and Fox back. I'll be at an Austin game in February too. GSFG.

This was the sticking point for me. If they're not trying to fuck us in some way, why all the pushback? It's like a used car salesman making excuses for not providing the Carfax. But whatever, what's done is done. I'm not in the tax base, but I really hope the city isn't going to get worse because of this.

The Spurs have always been my #1 team*, they are the only NBA team I ever had season tickets for.  My first job (when I was 13/14) was working for the Spurs.  They use to have a hotline people could call to get the score of the game. My job was to listen (or rarely watch - they weren't on TV that much back then) and call in the scores. If you were alive during this time, it was me who would say "The Iceman has 43 points after 3 quarters, the Spurs lead the Nuggets 108 to 89!" at least for a few seasons. I never want them to leave SA.

I am just not a fan of public funds being used on stadiums where it has never been proven to benefit anyone other than the richest of the rich.

*I like all 3 Texas teams, I am in the minority I know.

Don't remember anything that specific.  I'd call "Scores of San Antonio" - which was phone number 223-3232, and probably area code 512 before the transition to 210 - and the scores were updated every 15 minutes, but I never heard individual player stats.  I missed out!

While on that topic... Has anyone called the Frost Bank lady recently?  Her clock is like four minutes slow.  She has one job!

It’s tourist tax and the rest is coming from bonds that have to be use for venues. Spurs are putting in over 1 billion of their own money and will cover all overages of the project.
