Las Vegas go hard or go home thread

Went 2 weeks ago.  We stayed at Cosmo and ate at Bardot Brasserie and Din Tai Fung in Aria and  Majordomo at the Venetian.   Bardot had my favorite of the 3.  Would go back especially since we had a late lunch that day and weren't very hungry.   Dim sum was good, but nothing special.  Majordomo was a little disappointing.  We had a smoked beef rib that is apparently a big deal there and has to be reserved ahead of time.  I could have beaten in on a day where I started drinking as soon as I lit the fire in my smoker.  One of our group had a waygu steak that was fantastic though, so maybe they just had an off day but the beef rib wasn't cooked long enough and was under-seasoned.  Milk Bar pie lived up to the hype.

Quick question: I have the opportunity to go to Vegas in September.  My hotel will be free if I stay at a property that is managed by Hilton.  I see some of the options are Waldorf Astoria, Crockfords, Hilton Grand Vacations Club, Conrad, Hilton Flamingo, Las Vegas Hilton, Elara, Virgin, Tropicana and several others.  Does anyone have any recommendations out of these?  I have only been to Vegas a few times and its been several years.

Conrad at Resorts World, no question. Brand new suites, and a ton of cool dining options. Waldorf has no casino

Yeah more curious to know if anyone else has been lately. I know ChiTownDoc indicated that it wasn’t ready for prime time when he was there several months ago.

I visited in February. Had brunch at a casual restaurant that was solid. The “upscale food court” looked to have several pretty cool options.

Casino floor was clean and attractive but was pretty dead. It was a weekday around 11a-noon, but that’s been a fairly common complaint that the casino area isn’t high energy.

I liked that I could apply and get a rewards card at a kiosk rather than waiting in a line and dealing with people.

Poker area looked nice and comfortable but is tucked in a corner so doesn’t get walk-in traffic and was also fairly dead.

Obv the biggest hurdle is just location, if you already aren’t at the Venetian/Wynn area, dunno what would pull you all the way over there just because.

Got all reservations done, for next week eating at: Morimoto, Julian Serrano Tapas, Carbone, Bardot (brunch), Bouchon (brunch). This is gonna be a good trip.

Will have one more dinner we plan on the fly (Sunday night so should be easier to get in).

I would do Waldorf or Crockfords. Those are the nicest. Just depends on location if you needed to be near anything else for certain meals or activities. What are your primary activities for the trip?

One day for the pool, then sportsbook Saturday and Sunday.  Also, going to do cheap blackjack at Cortez.

Going for the weekend in 2 weeks to meet some friends and haven't been in years. Without reading the whole thread, am I correct that the $20/50/100 handshake is a thing of the past and no use in trying when we check in at the Westin to get a better room?

Things are more corporate these days. Just ask at check in about upgrade options.

Is everyone that went for the first weekend of MM still hungover? Tell us how it was??

Yes, I am.  Did the Caesar's Madness on the Strip Thursday and Friday, okay buffet and drinks.  Wager lines weren't bad if you didn't have the app.  The ballroom was packed both days.  Big 10 fans love to wear jersey's.  Made my wagers for the day Saturday morning at the sportsbook at Cromwell as they opened at 8, no line.  Posted up at the sportsbook bar at Ceasars to watch Baylor (wild game).  The line to make a wager there was dumb.  Refused to pay $10 for a beer at the casino so I stocked up at CVS, walking around with a plastic bag full of Coors Light corner post.  Ate some good food, played a couple of rounds of gold, ate some gummies.  Usual shit.

It's a $20 sandwich between the DL and CC. Hit rate is lower nowadays that everything is priced ala carte.

You Sir, win the internet.

To do it right there, request to sit in one of the booths that are the favorite tables of those guys - ie: the Dean Martin booth.  It’s a cool place.  Also ask them to show you the mafia room with escape hatch in the wall.

It was ok.  In not being big drinkers or gamblers, my wife and I still enjoyed the vibe.  Food was awesome.  The three things we like best were the 5-below ice bar, Shin Lim show, and biking (electric) around Red Rock Canyon.

Love it.  Reminds me of being a poor in college going to Vegas 20 years ago.  Cargo pants were still cool (I think?) and would stuff pockets full of airplane bottle liquors when going to the clubs.   Just order soda's.

I just hate handing over $10 to a bartender at Caesars, if I want to pay for beer at the casino I want it to be with $200 at the poker slots.

Thanks for posting this.  Grabbed a couple of tix today for this summer.   I've never seen them live but it was my wife's first concert when she was a kid and she's been obsessed with seeing them live again before it's too late.  I haven't been with wife (or at all on a non-business trip) since before kids 6 years ago.  What are current good hotel pools that has a "scene" but not the crazy pool party scene.  I think back in 2015 we stayed at Venetian and they had a separate adults pool that was more our speed with good music but not tons of wasted 20 year olds.
