  2. Also unironically, concerts have been the opposite of what you describe for most of our lifetime. Roger Waters had Trumps face on the Pigs, and that was in his first term. Green Day show I went to was politics on blast. Sports used to be at least bipartisan but bipartisan is long gone. That’s a shame, it used to be one thing people could agree on.
  3. This is apparently based off of Russian social media claims, but a current map of reported outages

  6. I'm a huge Zeppelin and Bonham fan. They can both be masterclasses in their own ways πŸ™‚ There are very, very few people in 2025 putting stuff out like what Josh Dun does on the song I posted. It isn't about technical proficiency or how complex anything is necessarily - like the Bonham track you linked. It's an insanely fucking good track that he lays down. Probably most impressive from a composition standpoint. Zone out and focus on just the drums and listen to every little thing that he does. The tempo control, the stopping and starting, the shifts in volume and style. I wish there was more music being made like that. In a lot of ways it reminds me of what the best guys were doing in the 60s and 70s.
  7. Somebody posted a map from the 1840s showing Crimea/Odessa as a part of "Southern Russia", so somebody posted this nice little map of Ukraine in the 1640s. Beauplan Poland XVII map - General Map of Ukraine - Wikipedia
  8. Unfortunately I missed TV On The Radio in part to catch Hooveriii early on Saturday after being there all day Friday. Tried really hard to stay but that second wind never came. First time for me to see them and were my personal favorite from the fest.
  9. Texas, LSU, Florida, aTm, Bama, AU, Vandy, SC, Mizzou, MS st, TN. KY all NIL the shit out of Baseball and Basketball (except maybe Vandy on basketball) Arky can stop making excuses. Pretty sure Walmart has $$$$
  10. Mind the step children. Mind the step-children.
  11. I mean, depends on the offer. I’d probably trade my wife and kids for the right offer but it would have to be pretty spectacular. I’d trade you to the rangers thread for a half eaten ham Sandwhich. Yordan probably falls somewhere in between. πŸ˜›

  15. I'm sure when Russians are picking up their coffee can's worth of fuel at the handful of gas stations still open, they'll be thinking "WE ARE PREVAILING IN THE RIGHTEOUS BATTLE" lol. Like I said, he can push that narrative all he wants, but fuel rationing and shortages as well as overall energy shortages make for a helluva counter-narrative that the Russian civilians can't ignore.
  16. Pretty sure he's not playing. Had surgery a week or two ago.
  17. That ICE agent who took the selfie, it's likely not the only bad thing he's done. When he goes to family Thanksgiving and they go around the table and ask everyone what they did this year, what does he say? Is his family a buncha aholes too, and they congratulate him? Or are they agast? Maybe he wasn't invited to dinner at all.
  18. I've been to MS and spent time in Jackson and Biloxi, but never Oxford. The Natchez Trace Pkwy is a serene, pleasant drive. Overall, MS just seems rural and backwards.
  19. I think he meant Loblolly Pines...

  25. The Deep South is what used to be the Cotton Kingdom: wherever the local economy and most powerful social class depended on the raising or export of cotton sustained by intensive and extractive exploitation of slave labor. Some states that was wide-spread enough to just say they are Deep South: Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina (although not uniformly, parts of Northwest Alabama are very different for instance). It also includes chunks of Arkansas, East Texas, and Galveston/Brazoria County. Tobacco Road in Virginia, NC, and parts of Maryland shares important similarities but important differences as the way the crop is raised and marketedβ€” and the origins of the plantersβ€” created a different dominant values set and mentality; ditto with Appalachia and places like much of NC where yeoman farmers may have owned enslaved people but worked alongside them to raise food crops for the household. The Pine Curtain is somewhat of a good secondary indicator. Pines moved into abandoned land either naturally or were planted industrially and thrive in poor soil that was subject to intensive cotton farming. The pre-Cotton South was covered with hardwood forests that would eventually return absent intervention. It’s all still monoculture.
