2024-2025 Houston Rockets thread - Prepare for Liftoff 🚀
billfromlaketravis replied to Macklemore's topic in Basketball
ESPN radio was in full spin mode this morning. - “Dallas deserved the first pick because they were trying. The Jazz and Wizards were trying to be a joke and they got what they got.” - “San Antonio shouldn’t trade Castle for Giannis, but the Rockets should trade Amen for him.” Just breathtakingly stupid takes. -

The Holy S*** here is the lady that rode the hood THROUGH the wall and walked away. I figured she would have lost a leg at least with that impact!

We could solve this problem by attracting the best and brightest from other countries to fill these jobs and . . . . aw shit, never mind.

Spurs have landed robinson, duncan , Wemby. Cavs land Bron. Orlando gets Penny and Shaq. All luck. Very transparent process too

Valid questions. But the manufacturing jobs in question aren't shop/factory-floor jobs. They're things like engineering, marketing, etc. that are traditionally considered degree-holder jobs. Robots/automation may never replace skilled workers entirely, but they've already replaced a lot of unskilled jobs in manufacturing. Old-time manufacturing provided lots of jobs for halfwits and morons. Now now so much. We're still gonna have the moron problem.
-
Engineering jobs. Most postings for skilled trades are looking for trade school degrees or certifications.

This is the insane world we live in: Treating consumers badly to boost profits is securities fraud, but treating consumers well and reducing profits is also securities fraud, because everything is securities fraud. https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/08/unitedhealthcare-sued-by-shareholders-over-reaction-to-ceos-killing.html -

Time for another ‘my dog is awesome’ thread
Biff Tannen replied to Patricio Swayze's topic in Daily Texan
Got the call this morning for my in-law’s lab. 13 years old and starting to lose the ability to stand on her back legs to poop. Poor girl. I think it’s just horrible arthritis, as her mind is fine and she is always happy when she sees my dogs. Going to take them to see her tonight and see if she perks up, but it’s probably her time very soon. Sigh. -
You're rotating pretty regularly on the 16" Koda, even with the fire dialed down. You don't walk away, in any event.

Why would a manufacturing job require a bachelor's degree? One really doesn't need a bachelor's degree to do most of the white collar jobs that require them now.

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet
Thatguy replied to Coach pop a bitch's topic in Football
As I said previously. There was nothing magic about it. The more receivers on the field the easier it is to throw the football. Colt was a regular passer his first two years until we decided to start playing primarily 4 wide receivers. That's when his completion percentage went through the roof. Once he got into the pros and went back to passing out of pro sets his passer rating went back down. It was as simple as that. About Quinn's reads its the opposite. He goes through his progressions TOO fast. He needs to slow down and not come off reads so early. Probably because he was worried about the pass rush. -

My mom made her kids and grandchildren a cookbook of all of our favorites growing up. Another tasty treat was "Hamburger Chili Rice. Basically, a pound of ground beef (browned), onion, green bell pepper, can of chopped tomatoes (she didn't do spice, but this is where I would sub Ro-Tel), 2 cups of rice, 3--4 cups of water, lots of seasoned salt, chili powder, cumin, boil, cover, cook until done. I know this thread has taken a turn into damned tasty stuff our parents threw together, but like other easy recipes mentioned above, this one also is pretty solid, weeknight fare.
