  4. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/03/world/europe/russia-volcano-eruption.html A long-dormant volcano in Russia’s Far East erupted on Sunday for the first time in hundreds of years, scientists said, spewing an ash cloud several miles high. The unusual eruption in Russia’s remote and sparsely populated Kamchatka region follows a series of seismic events this past week — including an earthquake and other volcanic activity — on the Pacific peninsula, 11 time zones away from Moscow. The Krasheninnikov volcano erupted for the first time “at least in 400 years,” sending volcanic ash as high as four miles into the sky, the Kronotsky Nature Reserve, where the volcano is, said in a statement. Staff members have been evacuated from the area, the statement said, adding that the volcano was too far from towns in the region to pose a danger to people. Vsevolod Yakovlev, the nature reserve’s acting director, said in the statement that the eruption was an “exciting and fascinating event,” and that Krasheninnikov was listed among the reserve’s eight active volcanoes. The eruption began at 6 a.m. local time on Sunday, when staff from the nature reserve on a research trip at the volcano spotted gas and vapor spewing from its crater. They were promptly evacuated to safety, the reserve said. The Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team, a local body in charge of monitoring and reacting to eruptions, said on Sunday there were no towns or villages within reach of the ash plume that resulted from the eruption. Last week, an 8.8-magnitude earthquake shook the Kamchatka peninsula, setting off tsunami waves and alerts across the Pacific Ocean. No serious injuries or damage were reported. A few hours after the quake, an active volcano in the region, Klyuchevskoy, erupted. Aftershocks have rocked the region in recent days, including a 7.0-magnitude earthquake that hit the nearby and sparsely populated Kuril Islands on Sunday without causing casualties or serious damage, the authorities said. Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry issued a tsunami warning, but called it off shortly after.

  10. Blum is more annoying when he actually has to work and not just tell dad jokes all game
  11. Embrace it? I never let it go. I always felt that's a part of what made us unique. We're arrogant regardless of on field results. I just wish it was going to be a prime time game. Oh wait. No I don't. I don't care. I'm happy the Ohio State meth tweakers are so upset about it. I hope we hear more about it after we soundly beat them the same way we did to Alabama in Tuscaloosa and Michigan in Ann Arbor. Let's bring the spirit of 2005 back and win again in the Horseshoe.
  12. never a doubt they'd use Julia!
  13. Starting to see more 2024 red zone/3rd qtr offensive struggles discussions popping up again. Honestly think better OL power blocking along with Arch at QB will significantly improve our short yardage offense in 2025. 2hrs ago posted Pośted 1 hour ago Posted 1 week ago
  14. that's better than last week
  15. I noticed in that picture the Texas football account posted on social media last night that whoever was at QB was under center. I recall us doing a little of it last year in the two games Manning started and we had some chunk runs (obviously the competition level wasn’t great). Also remember a redzone TD throw to Blue that came from an under center play.
  16. This. It’s two storied programs who just played last year, both top 3 teams and national champ contenders. Defending champ and 2x semifinalist Texas. And a Manning at the helm Of course it’s being hyped as much as the last 2 non-conference matchups between Texas and Ohio State
  17. Just fact-checking myself on my timeline post above. The arrest, indictment and trial of Sam Bankman-Fried was cited as a swift federal investigation and prosecution -- and it was, remarkably so, probably the fastest criminal prosecution gaining public notice I've ever seen. The timeline there: Crime evidence surfaces in November 2022, SBF indicted in December 2022. Tried to conviction in December 2023. Sentenced in March 2024, so indictment to final conviction for appeal purposes, 15 months. Remarkably fast given SBFs wealth ostensibly providing the means to delay and otherwise game the system. Lewis Kaplan, the judge, seems to be an extraordinarily no-bullshit judge. But those no-bullshit judges often create errors for appeal and reversal. One of the things that helped speed this prosecution was the nearly irrefutable "paper trail" left by SBF combined with the swift flipping of Caroline Ellison to shut down any innocent explanations of that paper trail. Appealed in April 2024. The appeal remains pending 16 months later.
  18. Have we had anyone debut in the MLB this season? I think we have really long streak going of at least one player making it into an MLB game each year.
  19. This thread is one of the few things that brings me joy these days. I love seeing these shitheads get fucked over. I wish it would be worse for them.
  20. It's a bit depressing when they show the next 3 batters up, and they're the 5,6,7 hitters and the highest average of the 3 is .254
  21. Same general region but still a decent hike of 95 miles from Sochi. Putin's Palace is at these coordinates, though I'm sure he has others.
