Bama 247 mod "We have multiple sources telling us that Jeff Banks is leaving or has left for Texas. I have not confirmed with the Texas side yet, but he is not at Alabama currently I'm told and isn't expected back. This is not a move Saban would approve of, but I am told they are prepared to find another coach already. Banks was the special team coordinator at UA."42 points

I'm coming around to cheering hard like a motherfucker for Golding because, if nothing else, it would more or less eliminate the possibility of Mike Stoops being able to coach here.34 points

Golding isn't the first choice for me either, but he's a golden boy handpicked by Saban and he's done well. He's had LB problems regarding injuries and youth while DC there. He's known as an innovator and that's not going to hurt when competing in the Big 12. I'm not exactly pumped about seeing him match wits with Lincoln Riley, in any event. Interesting thinking around some of this to me. One thing we know about Milwee is that offensive minds around him wanted him badly to join their new regimes. He also ran some innovative shit up at Akron before making the jump to the Bama analyst pool. As far as a QB coach goes, you're either looking for a promising apprentice that will have his own insights for the offense and a ton of energy, like Milwee, or someone who has been around the block and will make sure the QB room has its shit together, like Tim Beck. The notion people carry of having an ace recruiter at the QB Coach slot is ignorant. I'd love it if the QB Coach can recruit, sure, but it's not a throwaway position where you hide a guy for recruiting purposes. Milwee apparently did really well with Jones and Tua while working with them at Bama. Gideon is believed to be one of the brightest bulbs in the young assistant crowd. They don't become big names in full demand without starting somewhere. People have raved about him at every stop, Ole Miss didn't want to lose him, and he's already tapping into his dad's network and hustling with HS coaches. If he's not a home run hire, he's an extra base hit. Coleman I will not defend. I would have rather seen Colbert, Wiggins, Simmons, or an unknown with a better history of performance. It's obvious Sarkisian knows what he's doing with staff assembly, given he put some good ones together previously and many of those guys went on to bigger things, and he knows offense, but I struggle to give the benefit of the doubt on this one given the opportunity cost. I know we recruitniks enjoy running down Drayton, but he's a home run in the sense that he provides stability with the best player on the team. If Texas lands LJ Johnson, I have a hard time knocking Drayton on this staff as either a recruiter or coach. Other schools and the NFL have called on him every offseason, allegedly. He would have landed Cain had it not been for Fuckface. He's a pretty fucking great guy to have on the staff if the staff is generally competent. He was revered at Ohio State, and Chicago tried to keep him when he came to Texas. It's not going to shock me if, when on a staff of quality peers, he's suddenly someone we view as major asset on all fronts. Davis, Banks, Flood, and Joseph are inarguable to anyone other than the unwashed. The guys that cover Texas and recruiting are fistpumping right now about this staff. Ecstatic. I'm not disputing that these aren't all "home runs", just adding color to an interesting part of the staffing subject.32 points

No fucking shit. This site is quickly becoming fucking worthless. We have a thread about the coaching staff that gets overrun with fucking diabetes, dumb fucking college stories and snakes eating fucking dogs and I have to sift through 90% fucking garbage just to find out about fucking coaching news in a thread clearly labelled as a coaching thread that included warnings about staying on topic. There are a LOT of other places on this site that all of those topics can be discussed but apparently a bunch of fucksticks just can't keep themselves from fucking up regular threads with stupid shit. Is there any board where this shit doesn't happen?31 points

Bobby Burton This morning, new Texas coach Steve Sarkisian held a Zoom call where all former Texas football lettermen were invited. I’ve received some immediate feedback from the meeting. A couple of notes: - when asked about players opting out, Sark replied, “let’s call it what it is - quitting.” - spent some time discussing the importance of all three phases of the game. Feels like Texas has to win on offense, defense and special teams. - relayed that he felt like former Texas QB Major Applewhite, who was an analyst at Alabama this year, would spend at least one season as offensive coordinator at South Alabama. - said he has to develop players once they get to campus but that process actually starts by explaining to those same players that star ratings and rankings no longer matter at the college level. Each player starts fresh when they get to college. - went on to explain that his feeling is team’s need to try to be one unit, not a collection of individuals. We should have more about this call in the next 24 hours as we speak to more of its participants.25 points

Also, regarding Banks, when the dust settles, I'm hoping I can get more stories about this fucking nut and his personal life. Here's to strippers, pet monkeys, and 5 stars!24 points

Do we need a new football board mod? I need to be able to not come to the site for 12-14 hours sometimes. This thread just took me about 25 minutes not only to catch up on, but also moderate a significant number of posts. We have a thread literally for the latest news that is posted at the top of the football board, this thread is for discussing outlanding conspiracy theories of who we are going to get as coaches. I think that jokes/stories told in this thread do need a tangental connection to the thread topic or they will be moved out into new topics. I'll be giving "the rest of the day off" soft-bans to people who talk about shit completely out of left field without tying it to the thread. That doesn't mean give a wall of text update on unrelated shit and ask "did anything happen lolol?" There's a balance that makes it fun, lighthearted while still being useful and fun to follow if you aren't a participant in the surly antics.21 points

I mean Banks is pretty good but no one is going to acknowledge that we missed out on our #1 TE coach target, Corby Meekins?21 points

The Urban thread brought a bunch of new posters who think this is fucking 4chan for longhorns or something. I've been on the internets since 1997 and have successfully avoided seeing shit like that. It's getting to the point where this site is going to need actual moderation and shit like minimum rep to post links/pics.19 points

I can't speak to whether or not it is an Austin chapter of the Democratic Underground, but I can speak to my own experience. I'm sure you all know that I'm an old. I'm also very far from being a woke proponent of the cancel culture. I'm a proud Texan whose family has been here since before the Republic. I'm proud of the fact that I have ancestors that signed the Texas Declaration of Independence and fought and died at the Alamo. I'm also not so proud of the fact that I had ancestors who shed blood for the Confederacy even though I was moved when I walked on some of the very ground where they fought. I'm a proud graduate of the University of Texas. I love the University and am extremely grateful for the opportunities that my education there provided for me. The Eyes of Texas never fails to give me chills, and I will be extremely saddened if it goes away. I am also part of the generation that turned Texas from blue to solidly red and put Ronald Reagan in office. I always believed that the Republican party stood for law and order, liberty, and freedom from government interference in my life. I have never voted straight ticket in any any election (I don't even believe that it should be an option), but have never voted for a member of the Democratic Party for any statewide, or national office (I did once vote in the Democratic Party primary though). It's been obvious to me since the second Bush that the Republican party has been drifting away from the principals that it once stood for and I have been voting strictly for third party candidates for statewide and national offices. I firmly believe that the strict two party systems does a great disservice to this country. I, like many, was appalled at the violence brought about by the BLM movement and believe that those responsible should be held accountable for their actions. However, I absolutely cannot fathom how anyone could watch the actions that precipitated that movement and fail to understand that there is systemic racism within law enforcement and the justice system in this country. I am just as appalled at the violence that has been perpetrated against citizens of this country by those who are supposed to uphold the law, and serve and protect those citizens. I also believe that those responsible for those crimes should be held accountable for their actions. It's clear now that the Republican Party is no longer drifting away from its' ideals, but rather riding the crest of a tidal wave created by a narcissistic sociopath who would spend his, and this country's, last breath in a futile effort to hang on to power. The fact that there are such a large number of very vocal people who fail to see that the events that unfolded in the Capital Building were nothing less than an effort to subvert the democratic process, called for by the very man that is supposed to be the leader of the free world, has me very very frightened for the future of this country. If you would have told me in 2016 that one of this country's major political parties could turn itself into nothing more than a "cult of personality" I would have laughed in your face. Well I'm not laughing anymore. I can also tell you one thing for a fact. I will vote against Ted Cruz in any primary that he runs in, and if he wins in the primary I will vote for his Democratic opponent no matter who it is. As bad as I feel a strict two party system is for this country, a strict one party system is certainly not the answer and that is the road the the Republican Party is currently leading us down. Yes I know TLDR Old man yelling at the clouds OK boomer Whatever, at least President Trump has the excuse that he’s a narcissistic sociopath. Ted Cruz’s only excuse is that he’s hanging on to Tump’s nut sack for dear life. It’s enablers like him that will give the Republican Party what they lust after, a country where one party holds the Presidency and both houses of Congress. I hope he enjoys it. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming of banging sluts while the country burns.19 points

I haven't heard anything new regarding Wiggins, but the rest of the information coming out, specifically about Banks and Coleman, makes the Wiggins stuff seem dubious. I don't know what made my friend think Wiggins was gone, so Wiggins is either heading somewhere else or my buddy had bad initial information. Banks pulled a Baltimore Colts maneuver, apparently. He packed his shit last night and cleaned out his office. People showed up today and said "Where's Banks?" Baller move by Sarkisian. He's not fucking around with putting this staff together.18 points

Go pay FCB or Fat Katch 9.95 then. This a site of a bunch of degenerates and there’s 0 fucking news as of right now. The fuck you expect? This thread will jump 20 pages in an hour and Twitter will explode.18 points

These good luck responses are bullshit. Now that we know he’s not coming here, we need to ramp back up the rhetoric about how he’s a piece of shit due to the Zach smith incident, the asylum he ran in Florida, etc. You people don’t know how to whipsaw your feelings and emotions into the appropriate tenor.17 points

You gotta feel real bad for Bama, without Banks their recruiting classes will go back to the dark days of 2010-2017 when they had *checks notes* the #1 class each year.16 points

I am starting to think Sark’s staff is going to be better than the one Herman brought from Houston. Gee, I wonder how that will translate to recruiting, development of players and wins. I may have to call my doctor in 4 hours if this keeps up.16 points

If true, this really makes me doubt any claims that Sark is still having issues. You don't get this many people to leave Alabama if they don't have 100% faith in what you are doing. Also, absolutely love Sark letting his nuts hang. Fuck these unwritten rules.14 points

Eric Nahlin Inside Texas has learned one of the top recruiters in the state of Texas over the last half decade will join Steve Sarkisian’s Texas staff. Jeff Banks was previously at A&M. He’s been Alabama’s key man in Texas, and was a conduit directly from the talented 2022 class to Nick Saban and that hideous painting from the ‘09 National Championship he likes to take pictures of when he was a Texas prospect in his office.14 points
