I saw that headstock and immediately remembered that weird brand of guitars I had forgotten about with the thumbs up. In retrospect, super weird headstock but pretty interesting body if you're into the whole Dano thing.

I really like that band (Ratboys) - the lead guitarist plays a cool old Ibanez LP copy and is very much in my wheelhouse. She plays what i had assumed was some kind of old Danelectro, but upon further research it's actually some small danelectro style boutique builder in Iowa - Nepco.

(hers is a V with humbucking lipstick pickups).

Cool.

Rick Derringer death: Classic rock guitarist of ‘Hang On Sloopy’ fame dies aged 77

Aww man, that's a drag. I was at the guitar show in Dallas one year, working my friends booth, and Rick was right across from us doing demos of guitars/amps for some local shop.  We listened to rip shred all morning, then in the afternoon, we were like, "Hey Rick, we know you can shred, but you've successfully made our ears bleed.  Show us what else you know."  He instantly started in on some amazing jazz that kept us captivated all afternoon.  Fair skies and following tailwinds, Mr. Derringer.

Also, show this weekend was great. Both guitars survived, we came just short of selling out the Parish (sigh… should’ve kept the guest list a bit smaller). It was bizarre just getting right back onto the bike playing with those guys again. And then seeing the exact same crowd from 15 years ago but all middle aged or near middle aged. Loved seeing 40 something year old women in their scene era shirts from 2004 that I can date precisely because we pressed that batch exactly one time. We had someone shooting photos, so I’m hoping to get some good pictures. The video fucked up but there have been some good ones.

Dude probably deserves his own thread.  He could play.

I saw a bunch of people I recognized and remembered from long ago, I was not expecting to recognize and remember the lady who runs sound at The Parish. But it was her, same lady who always did it, and she was always the best.

Looked at the Rat Boys and thought-

“They’re the ugliest band since The Smithereens.”

Then went to the IG home page and was presented with a much more interesting (waist) band.

I'm afraid to learn what "vintage" means, but I had an early 90s American Standard that was a kickass guitar, and of course my dumb self sold it maybe 15 years ago, because I'm an idiot with a problem.

88--early 90 is my favorite era of obtainable, vintage, Fender guitars.

I took pics of his show in 2011. He was pretty badass.
