"Chad Morris explains decision to move John Chavis back to press box for Texas A&M game"

Michael Wayne Bratton | 3 hours ago

Chad Morris is mixing things up in Fayetteville.  Following last weekend’s disastrous loss to San Jose State, the Arkansas coach has decided that the best way to respond following that result was to change things up within his program. During his most recent press availability leading up to this weekend’s matchup with Texas A&M, Morris explained his strategy with the local media.  “Our big focus has been on why? And so, I think we did a little bit this week, changing a few things up, changed a few team meetings up, the way we do things, just to get out of a routine,” Morris said in a YouTube video uploaded by Hit That Line. “That’s been a part of the plan this week.”

A big focus of the team’s changes this week is getting the defense to turn around. John Chavis’ unit was the strength of the program last season but so far this season, the results have not been there for the Razorbacks.  Chavis’ unit has allowed 31 or more points in three consecutive games (against Ole Miss, Colorado State and San Jose State) and rank near the bottom in several key league stats: 12th in scoring defense, 14th in opponent red zone scoring conversions and 12th in explosive plays allowed (plays of 20+ yards from scrimmage).

In hopes of correcting some of those issues, Morris is moving Chavis back up to the press box.  “Yeah, that’s what we are going to do,” the Arkansas coach noted on Thursday.  You may recall Chavis started his tenure in Fayetteville in the press box but the decision was made to move him down to the field at mid-season last fall. Now he’s moving back to the press box for game days.  Morris explained why that decision was made.  “Again, I just think — and it goes with everything else — just to change a routine a little bit,” Morris stated. “Gives him an opportunity to be upstairs and see some of the adjustments and get it communicated down on the field. I just think it’s part of us, just kinda changing a few things up.”

scattershooting......

if the ministry's ascending-coaster irrational delusions of grandeur are mirrored in the locker room...

which based on social media we know they are.....

then the fanbase and regents' suite meltdowns are also likely mirrored in the locker room.....

and given the no-booing 'tradition' amplifies the negative accountability metric.....

and given we know how boomhauer baggins left tallahassee....

and that we have rumors of some kind of post-game altercation between the players.....

the hiroshima potential here is on the radar.

i would not take the points here.  not even close.

Why is Chad Morris great at Arkansas...with a worse record?

Because who expects Arkansas to win like FSU?

I asked the question of why isn’t Chad Morris a disastrous hire with a far worse record.

I always forget that other than no State Fair, a sterile indoor NFL stadium, the only corny dog selection being renegade "Fletch's" (unless they're shut down by a TRO from the real Fletcher's), and it being located in the middle of suburban sprawl....this is just like the Texas OU game, only better because SEC.

Article on Stats for piggy vs. aggy game...

Keys to the game for Arky

1. Finish drives. A “scoring chance” drive is any drive that gets a first down inside the opponents’ 40. You should score at least 80% of the time on scoring chances, and average at least 5 points per scoring chance. Against Portland State, Ole Miss, and SJSU, the Hogs averaged 2.3, 2.0 and 2.4 points per scoring chance. Moving the ball hasn’t been the problem: actually ending promising drives with points has been.

2. Make Mond beat you deep. Mond had the worst game of his career last year against Arkansas, going 17 of 26 for 201 yards and two interceptions in a closer-than-expected win. Hogs limited Mond as a runner and took away easy throws, something they’ll have to do again in order to have a chance.

3. Give Starkel a chance. Arkansas’ offensive line is a disaster zone right now, but getting Colton Jackson back at left tackle will help. Starkel and the Hog receivers are good enough to make this game interesting, but not if Starkel is running for his life or the run game fails to affect A&M’s gameplan in any way.

Something weird is going on with ticket prices in the secondary market for this game. Prices in the upper deck nose bleeds can be had for 120. But some of the best seats at field level can be easily found for about $200. That's on both stubhub and seatgeek.

Uh....when you consider who comprises 100% of the customer base for this shitshow, “weird” is the norm.
