Sark called a very conservative game from the start. It felt like he was afraid to let Arch make plays.

When you call the game scared the players pick up on it and start to play as tentative as the coach’s play calling.

The last two drives when with a chance to win the training wheels came off in desperation , Arch looked better and played more free. He didn’t get the job done but he will learn from it if Sark lets him.

4th and 4 from the 25 in the first quarter is the exact same as 4th and 1 from the 1 foot line down 7-0.

Especially when you start stacking up the “oh-fers” on fourth and goal from inside the 5 with sark.

Simply put, Sark has trouble beating Teams in the Top 12, with a losing record -- 3-10

Teams in Top 13-25, he has a winning record -- 9-2

He's not gonna win a title unless this pattern changes massively.

Has already blown two title chances, the last one with one of the greatest defenses ever at UT.

I’m watching bama try to put together a drive and they are running routes and coming back and sitting for the qb - I know sark likes to hit receivers in motion but for the love of Christ I think this would be good.

Reminded me of Mack passive-aggressively whining that the media was too critical about his shortcomings.  “Well, we didn’t beat Oklahoma but we won the other 11, and people still want to ask about Oklahoma.”

Hope someone asks him this week, “Coach, to follow up on your stat from last week’s press conference, what’s your red-zone TD% in 2025?”

wow.  had to watch it on delay/dvr.  was so desperate to get home.  what a mistake.

Its probably been called out a ton already, but what was that?  last year there was so much motion, misdirection, bunch formations.    I thought the motion was Sarks way for the defense to show their hand.  It looked like osu dbs played off, no one got open at all and arch started rushing it.   He looked like he was trying to go down the field on every play and no one was open. He was mentally ready to gun it, then had to check down but was throwing 100mph passes for 4yrds.

the run game looked ok, but there seemed to be nothing schemed up like we saw last year.  there was at least a few attempts to be creative with run plays.  that kept defenses on their toes, even if those plays did not work.  Their defense was flying.  they were not hesitating at all.

its almost like, if you see your QB struggling, why not give him quick passes?  add some misdirection.  yea arch wasnt great at the short stuff, but I think it would have been different if thats his 1st read.  I mean, we did it for a whole year w Quinn.

Its like Sark watched an old a peyton manning game.  Line up the same way on almost every play.  no motion at all..  wrong manning dude

Yep. Butterteeth moves back to Austin and sark gets whiney and does his best Greg Davis impersonation in the first game. Coincidence?

Cowturd comments:   Sark is gonna get criticized for losing games against Top 6 teams at Texas -- said Sark is now only 1-8.  🙄

Also talked about how in the NFL, Patricia/Belichick's ability to make young QBs look really bad was amazing.  Not surprised Arch struggled today...

When I listen to Sark's postgame presser, I feel bad for him and get the feeling that he gets what needs to be fixed. Then he goes out and makes the same mistakes in the next big game. It's been going on for far too long to make me think he may never get over the hump.

He basically admitted to this in his press conference.   Playing your first game with a new QB at tOSU is a tall task.  I can understand why he went in conservative not having any film on Patricia in a game where the margin for error is very low.  I imagine we’ll see a much more aggressive game plan moving forward.

Ofcourse he can.  We had the personnel his first two years to run it in between the tackles and had a pretty good redzone offense.  With Quinn and the running back injuries, we were limited in what we could do.  I saw a lot of good push against an elite DL today.  We ran for 166 yards at 4+ yards a carry in game 1.  He just got cute with the QB sneak.  Give it your big RB and pound it.  But you’ve got a 6’4 225 lb athletic QB on the 1 yard line.  Lots of play callers would consider a QB sneak in that situation.  It just didn’t work.

He’s a Bert Auburn missed FG from beating UGA in Atlanta.  If your expectation is that we are going to win every game against national championship winning coaches in their established careers, then you’re going to be disappointed, that’s not reality.  But Sark is plenty capable of beating Kirby.  Hell, I think he’s going to this year.  UGA doesn’t have the skill talent Ohio State does, doesn’t have an QB, and is replacing a ton on defense.  Let’s see how it plays out.

Not against arguably the best D line in college football, they wouldn't. Not any good ones anyway.

Yeah, I bet if he ran it Baxter and didn’t get it, you’d be bitching why he didn’t call a sneak since it worked the 1st time on 4th down.  Hindsight is 20/20.  That was a good defense we played against good coaches on the road in an intense environment with a new OL and new QB.  Have some perspective man.

Any misdirection would have been a better choice on at least one of the fucking 4.

Bootleg, RPO, Play action, anything. But what did we get, against the best defensive front in college football?

Buddy, it’s game 1.   2 weeks ago, all the reports were that the offense had tons of issues with pre-snap penalties.  Our LT hasn’t practiced for 2 weeks.  There are 4 new starters on the OL.  Misdirection, motion, and everything you’re asking for requires a disciplined OL with experience which is not what we have.  On the road in that environment, you probably don’t want to put your OL in a position to make mistakes on a critical drive.   I do agree, I probably wouldn’t call a QB sneak there on 4th down.   But those first 3 play calls got positive yards every time so I have no issue with them as it got us to 4th and 1.  Keep in mind, Arch wasn’t hitting his WRs on underneath routes.  Given all that, I’m probably going conservative in that situation and hoping the OL can get a push for 1 yard.  Sucks that we didn’t get it.  But let’s not pretend like Arch was lighting it up and that we have an experienced OL to do the things you are asking in game 1.  Now let’s see how this offense evolves.

Ohio state ran it 7 straight times on their 1st score.  Most were for 1-5 yards.  Just like Sark’s play calls.  They converted their 4th and 1 and we didn’t.  Perhaps that national championship coach on the other side is the idiot as well.

Well, the guy on the other side has beaten our guy two times in a row, just like Kirby and won a national championship last year.  The guy on the other side also took a 5* and coached him to look competent and beat Texas. Something Sark has failed to do in back to back games against OSU.

No you keep bitching about the play calls.  The coach that beat us called the same plays.  So stop your bitching.  We lost dude.  It sucks.  But you’d be bitching whether we threw it, ran it, punted it, or kicked it.  These big games come down to 1 or 2 plays.  We didn’t make them today.  But the complete overreaction considering we played the #2 team on the road in our season opener is exhausting.   Nick Saban isn’t walking through that door to coach us…. And don’t forget that motherfucker lost at home to the coach you keep bitching about.  Go smoke a bowl and enjoy this season.  We’re going to win a lot of games and hopefully get a chance to play in the playoffs.  Perhaps you’ve forgotten the decade plus of ass beatings we received but I’m excited about this team.

I'm very happy with where Sark has taken us the last few years and especially the last two. We are in elite company again, recruiting is fantastic and the trajectory is still going up, even with this loss. Honestly, it was silly to have us #1 and over Ohio State to begin with, they are coming off the championship and all that did was give them more fuel and anger for the game today. They had a chip on their shoulder for being disrespected and rightfully so.

Maybe I've missed it, but I am really dying to know what Sark says is the problem at the goal line. If anyone can point me to a response he's made in the past, I'd like to see it. It is just such an obvious flaw in his game that really should have been addressed at this point and frustrating to see again the very first game of the season.

I still remember when the sneak worked 95% of the time on 3rd/4th and 1

Maybe the difference is over reliance of the shotgun formation?

We can't go under center again, I still remember the accidental fumble to Brooks vs Bama. just delete all those plays.

Just ignore him.  Complete moron.  Some fans have this expectation that we are going to win every game and never lose.  That’s not the reality of college football anymore with our schedules.  I’d be more concerned if tOSU put a beating on us like FSU did to bama.  Instead we’re leaving this game wondering how we lost when we beat them in most of the statistical categories except being -1 in turnovers.

The poster I was referencing was complaining that we didn’t call a rpo or play action or misdirection on that play.  My point was that the opposing coach didn’t either and just ran the ball up the middle 7 straight times…. Most of them for 1-2 yards.  But yes, I agree with you that I would have called a run play with Baxter instead of the sneak.  But considering the push their DTs got on that play, not sure that would have resulted in a TD either.   Their DL made the plays when it mattered.

Hell yeah man.  Fuck that Sark guy.  Let’s go hire that hot OC at Clemson with multiple NFL WRs and an elite QB.  He scored a whopping 10 points at home to an LSU defense that has been dogshit for 3 years.  Or let’s go hire that badass OC Grubb.  That guy is elite.  He scored a scorching 17 points against returning 2-10 FSU defense.  Or hell, let’s go get the OC from the defending champs.  That dude is a badass.  He got a total of 200 yards today.   Or I bet we’d love to go get the Penn state guy that can’t ever beat anyone with the most boring offense I’ve seen.  Or man, maybe we get the Michigan OC!  Or how about the ou OC?  He’s hot right now with 1 good season at wazzu.  Or shit, let’s get that young and upcomer Klein…. He scored a whole 0 points in the biggest game of their year.  How about that LSU OC that put up 17 against clemson.  Sark could never score more than that against that Clemson defense.  Fuck Sark, what a loser.

Ah yes, because we can come out and gun it when our QB was throwing passes in the dirt to start the game and the entire 1st half.  Yeah, that’s what you do when your QB is struggling.  You just gun it!  Wave a want and gun it!  Fuck running the ball to calm him down.  Who would do that.  Good thing the coach that beat us today gunned it with his first year QB to the tune of 120 yards passing.  This fucking board is worse than Texags.

It seems clear that Sark values winning his way and with his vision of what he wants his team to look like rather than win at all costs

I think it bleeds into the red zone calls trying to reinforce the idea that we are a physical team when there are higher percentage plays out there

There’s obviously value in building an identity in “you get what you empasize” but when you are so firmly tied into this “we don’t want to major in this or that” bullshit it shows when you consistently can’t adjust and change the aesthetic of your offense. Just swallow your pride, change your fucking major, and embrace the power QB run etc if it lets you win more games

I understand that, but OSU guys submarined the Oline due to our predictability.  Hill whiffed on his tackle.  Defensively, we failed to execute.  Offensively that play was dead in the water.  This notion that you’ll beat strong defenses in situations when they have numbers is a weakness of Sarks.  Teams don’t really do it to us so why should we expect it either.  Some play action, getting on the edge could introduce some hesitation.
