how is that not a dead ball? that ball hit Yuli in the batter's box?

I finally got a chance to see this replay and it sure looks to me like HPU signals foul before pointing that the ball is fair.  Seems to be an epidemic of bad umpiring throughout MLB this season.

Fair ball was the right call but the HP ump sure did a shitty job making it clear what his call was.  Which is why Yordan left 2nd base to head back to 1st.

Ehhh maybe, but if there is any hint of doubt whether a ball is fair or foul, never go “backwards” until an ump explicitly tells you to.

I was curious about him because he just vanished off the face of the Astros map after pitching in Arlington on May 21st. Tyler Ivey is out for the year with an injury problem he kept from the Astros. Apparently he's been dealing with persistent elbow pain all year. It's not his UCL though.

Ivey has been examined by a bevy of doctors in Dallas. Renowned orthopedic surgeon Keith Meister, the Texas Rangers’ team doctor, told Ivey his ulnar collateral ligament is “thick and robust.”

Doctors have not ruled out thoracic outlet syndrome, Ivey said. A visit to a nerve specialist uncovered more troubling news.

“Apparently I have the nerve endings of a 75-year-old man in my elbow,” Ivey said. “That probably explains a lot.”

Ivey suffered a grade one strain of his ulnar collateral ligament in 2019. The pain has not gone away since. The Astros added him to their 40-man roster last December, putting Ivey on the precipice of his major league debut. He hid his discomfort throughout spring training and following his first two minor league appearances.

“I didn’t want to say anything to the Astros,” Ivey said. “I wanted to make my debut first. I knew it was going to be a spot start and I’d be optioned down immediately, so I thought I’d see how long I could go in this start. I can’t sit there and be like ‘Oh, I can’t pitch in Arlington, arm’s kind of hurting, sorry.’”

“I knew I had been hurt for the longest time,” Ivey said. “It just felt like I ran a really long marathon and I was at the end of it. At this point, I knew, hey, you probably need to say something about your arm just because nothing was working. As far as my mood goes, I needed a break. I needed a breather really badly.”

“I’d say it’s like an eight out of 10 pain when I’m throwing. And it hasn’t gotten any better no matter what we’ve done.”

Dipshit.  They ought to be able to fine guys for hiding injuries like that.  It does no one any good.  Although in Ivey's case he's not making any money anyway.

If he has surgery he might not ever get back there. It’s his major league debut. It might be his only time ever.
If it’s me they’d have to cut my arm off before I’d tell them anything was up.

So- my tough 21 game stretch we went 11-10 And the only bad team we played we were 0-3 against (Rangers).
This team is really good. They had that weird Covid thing where we really struggled and some bullpen malfeasance, but we are gonna be a motherfucker in the playoffs if we can start clubbing baby seals like I expect will happen.
Needs to start now.
