I don't even know how involved Muschamp was this year, but here's the last three years of defensive stats for UGA and UT. Seems like a wash to me. I'm not arguing that Muschamp is shit, I'm just saying that PK is a damn fine defensive coordinator in his own right and our '24 defense was nasty as fuck. We weren't losing to UGA and tOSU because of our defense for fucks sake.

Scoring Defense
'25 UGA - #11 (16.8)     Texas - #20 (19.8)
'24 UGA - #24 (21.9)   Texas - #2 (15.3)
'23 UGA - #7 (16.3)      Texas - #12 (18.9)
Average
UGA  #14 (18.3)Texas - #11.3 (18)

Total Defense
'25 UGA - #12 (292.1)      Texas - #29 (336)
'24 UGA - #36 (345.5)    Texas - #4 (283.7)
'23 UGA - #8 (291.3)       Texas - #28 (336.9)
Average
UGA  #18.6 (309.6)    Texas - #20.3 (318.9)

PK did a great job for Texas and he will kill it elsewhere. Sark finally got his first choice now he needs to go win the MNC with it and clean up his side of the ball. This should be a year of no excuses and not All Gas No Brakes bc shit was clearly broken or there wouldn’t be as many staff changes. I wish all the best for PK and hope everyone else does as well. I think there is more to the story but whatever. But I do hope Sark realizes that it was Flood and Sark’s side of the ball that failed here and has been in the bottom third of the FBS in red zone offense the past three years.

Fair assessment. Maybe I’m just convincing myself he’s better.

(In 25, Boom was only an analyst).

in 22 (Boom’s first year as CoDC at UGA) UGA defense was 5th in PPG, 9th in YPG. 1st in rushing ypg.

For me there are a few key take aways.

1) Texas Defense suffered this year primarily due to passing game issues. A) Big loss of talent in Draft B) big loss of talent in DBs coach C) I firmly believe Akina was as much a factor as A and B maybe more

2) We could get really deep in the weeds, but in a broad take to avoid the Surly Decimal argument, at this point in their career Muschamp and PK are on similar levels of production.

3) The real issue wasn't with our Defense in broad strokes. Why are we fixing what ain't broke and have yet to address what is?

This is why I'm guessing many people, like myself are WTF! I do know Surly has a deep bias in favor of Muschamp and that's going to cloud the views of many, but the broad question remains. Why did PK get fired for basically a similar level guy and not the OL which has always been an issue.

My only logical conclusion is the PIP drove Sark to it, perhaps because he's very resistant to getting rid of Flood and Brandon Harris and had to make a big move due to the PIP? That's what it looks like to me, time will certainly clear items up.

If PK didn’t want to fuck off to the west coast so bad he’d still be here. Glad we had an equal or greater replacement waiting in the wings. Sark you big fucking idiot

Fuck off Sark. PK deserved better than to be fired. fix your side of the fucking ball or we'll lose at least three next year.

In a vaccuum sure, but I doubt this was Sark walking into PK's office out of the blue with a pink slip. If PK was lining up his exit to USC or wherever then it's Sark's perogative to move forward with a clean break and secure what he views as the top option.

I think CDC had a talk with him. He was put on notice.   A pip indeed.   Still I don’t think pk needed to go.   He was a great dc

How do you know he wanted to fuck off to the west coast?  Maybe sark isn’t the coaching savant you think he is?

Dead man walking, no head coach making $11 million a year says he wanted a head coach for the defense so he can coach the offense during games. That’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard in my life. At least the next coach will take over Texas in a solid place much like Richt to Smart. Texas needs to find their Ryan day or Kirby smart next.

He shouldn’t say those things out loud right? Even if it’s true, make up something that sounds like you’re the HC of the WHOLE team lol. Admitting you need a HC for the defense so you can focus on offense makes you an offensive coordinator. To me that’s a sign that he’s in way over his head, in year 5. I guess I’m overreacting tho, I’m willing to admit this could be an emotional response, that’s gotta count for something lol.

From a recent article it doesn’t appear at least thru the bowl game that FLOOD is going anywhere. Nansen will be calling the plays on defense. Muschamp will observe. Our new RB coach Juluke will be active, Reading the tea leaves it also appears as though Sark will not be on the headset as much for defense and spending more time on the offense—hence no OC for the time being,

The two new additions to the coaching staff, running backs coach Jabbar Juluke and defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, will travel with the team to the bowl game but will contribute in different capacities, Sarkisian said. Juluke will coach on the sideline while Muschamp will observe, and linebackers coach Johnny Nansen will call the defensive plays in relief of Pete Kwiatkowski, who was fired Thursday.

“When we call a timeout, I don’t always have to be on the defensive headset every single play,” Sarkisian said. “I can spend a little more time focusing on offensive football. I can go be with Arch, Coach Milwee, Coach Flood … and allow him to be with the defensive players and make those calls. There’s a level to it that’s hard to see looking through the window, but once you get under the hood, you can see it.”

https://www.kxan.com/sports-general/horns-report/texas-down-20-scholarship-players-before-citrus-bowl-due-to-transfers-opt-outs/

This is Sark’s compromise for the time being. I don’t know what will happen between the bowl game and next season. I am just sharing from the interview Sark gave. I have already stated that I believe Flood should be gone. Sark should hire an OC. Those things could happen or this (outside of Nansen coaching the defense solely for the bowl game) could be his compromise moving forward beyond the bowl game. Two HC types will be on the field and Sark will focus mainly on offense. I cannot find my glasses and don’t have time to read much more of the above posts, just sharing so SIAP.

I have no strong feelings on Sark one way or the other. Multiple people here and elsewhere have stated PK has been looking West.

So who’s gonna be the head coach of the team??

Yeah it seems more like two HC so Co-HC’s? Okeedokee. But one retains the title of HC. And Flood should be fucking gone. But at least thru the bowl game he will be here and based on that quote from sark from the article I posted above Flood will be here for a while. 🙄

I feel like Sark is saving Banks and Flood as the last guys to throw overboard.  Mack did the same with Greg and Manny

Correct. A HC is either a HC or he/she/they is not. This is his compromise and it could work but at the same time it’s unorthodox and one HC (defense) is earning less (I am guessing) and doesn’t retain the title. I am hoping Flood will be gone. We will see after the portal closes but the way I read his quotes from the article link I posted above is next season when he is on the field he don’t want to be on the headset dealing with defense and he wants to be next season able to focus on Arch and Milwee and Flood and such. That’s exactly how I read it. And I could be reading that wrong. 😑

Wanting to fuck off to the west coast can contribute to being fired one would think

Do we know he wanted to fuck off to the west coast or did his firing come as a surprise? I ask bc I genuinely don’t know. I had four posters tell me he was considering leaving for reasons but those reasons were not specifically discussed with me in detail. Just generally frustrated with/ sick of Sark or similar but nothing specific, But much of what was was told to me was shared after the Mississippi State game.

I imagine PK will be a hot commodity for a team who wants to make a deep run next season. But who knows? If he is such a commodity he will get snapped up before Jan 2nd. He has worked closely with sark and knows how he thinks and coaches and we appear to be a team focused on making a deep run ourselves. We will likely be facing him again in the playoffs,

if he wants to go PNW or just fucking west Oregon or Washington or hell USC make a lot of damn sense. They are teams who would take a look and afford to take it.

I think this is a good move. I think the easy comfortable move would have been to keep PK as your DC.

This is a move to a coach who clearly is better at coaching his portion of the team than Sark is.

in addition, Muschamp is a DB and ST coach, so he can contribute there as well.

I’ll eat crow when sark and muschamp win a national championship lol. Oh and there’s this part

  • CEO Role vs. Playcaller: The decision to give up playcalling was intended to let Day focus more on being a CEO-style head coach, managing the entire program, but he's found a balance where he's still heavily invested in the offense.

I bet sark could take a 50/50 role with…checks notes…sark so they can split the responsibilities of controlling the offense.

I see your point tho and I’ll admit I walked into that one haha.

From my humble marketing & PR perspective, I think that is a terrible quote from Sark. That sounds like someone who is really reaching and regardless of the reality, it's a bad reflection on him. Throwing someone under the bus like that only makes Sark look bad as far as Texas stakeholders are concerned.

I already thought less of him this year for his inability to motivate his players to put complete games together, and now he just sounds desperate. He could have been really positive about PK, thanked him for his contributions and even more positive about Muschamp. I hope PK trashes  him when he lands.

I don’t think PK will trash Sark unless Sark trashes Pk and really that would be a dumb move. No matter who does it. This is now how Sark appears to want the team to work. If it doesn’t work he goes down with the ship. And if it doesn’t work he should be fired. He is getting what he wants his team his first choice DC and shitty Flood and he is keeping Millwee and I won’t think Milwee or whatever is all that awesome either,

I want this to work. I don’t dislike sark enough on that level to ever root for my team to lose. I need it to work. But if it doesn’t work Sark should be gone. And flood and millwee can get fucked off with him. If it works I will come here and I will eat crow and I will take my deserved beatings on surly for my shit talking and I won’t give a damn bc we will have won. If it doesn’t work I will 💯 blame sark and his approach to the season. This past year it was NFL light to no contact practices. And this year we are appearing to do a new co-HC approach to the team. I will never understand changing things up from 2024 because it was working. I will never understand keeping Flood if we keep him. I will never not understand not plugging the holes in the oline with the portal this past season. And truly Sark’s whole approach to the 2025 offseason and basically first half of the season.

If it works nothing I just said above matters and I will take my lumps and not give a solid fuck bc we will have won the second MNC in my lifetime. 🤘🏼 🤘🏼 🤘🏼

Yes, the proper way would be "PK was a big part of our success and we're sad to see him go.  We're lucky to have Will step in and replace him."

Not "man, now that I don't have to babysit the defense I can finally focus on my offense."

Against Georgia there’s a good chance our corners continue to play 10 yards off on 3&5 after the 1st quarter. I think that is what Sark is talking about. There’s just too many games where we were playing too soft when we didn’t need, especially in crucial situations. The back end was never in sync with the front and that starts with the DC. Sark obviously wanted a guy that can navigate the entire defense at a high level.

Posted

I feel like this thread exists in an alternate reality where our "bad" season wasn't 9-3 in the SEC with wins over A&M and OU. I think there are clear areas where Sark needs to improve, but I just don't see this as the beginning of a downward slide. New ideas with Muschamp actually make me feel better about not falling into a malaise.

I got to give a shout-out to Michigan and Texas. You do have to admit the coaching staffs know how to turn an utterly meaningless and boring exhibition game into a drama-filled  freak-show.
