That's why little scatbacks like Welker, Taurean Henderson, and Eric Stephens were perfect in the Air Raid.

Yeah, the running back culture as well as that of OL changed as much as anything else in the transition from Spike to Leach.

Who was that back from Midland who was a stud?  Real high character guy.  Think injuries derailed his NFL career.  But he was/is a really good human.

Yeah, if you ever tried to blitz a Leach team, they would screen you to death with their short, quick guys or flip it to a running back.  Way to beat them was to rush 4 and knock the shit out of their receivers every time they caught a ball.  Greg Robinson was our best DC against Leach.

Baron Batch. I don't think he was quite NFL caliber ultimately but he is a good dude.

Also Welker wasn't a back idk what slorch meant by that.

Welker often functioned as a back in his role, even if it was 'wing-backy.'It's not like he lined up in the slot every play, certainly not while at Tech.

I got to work out with him at one of the Leach Fantasy Camps.  He is genuinely one of the nicest people you will ever meet.  And very, very, very fast.

I remember watching this on TV as a kid when it happened. Interesting playcall. “Just chuck a 40 yard rainbow bomb towards the DB punt returner. They’ll never see it coming”.

That RB class Leach snagged in ‘05 was pure smoke. Edward Britton, Kobey Lewis and Batch were insane to watch in person. If Britton would have played somewhere besides El Paso he would have gotten a heck of a lot more attention

I have no idea why we are getting a lot of pics of guys we don’t know from past TT teams that went 7-5 or 8-4, when TT is supposed to contend in the B12 this year? Who are those guys?

I consider it some sort of banal version of performance art by slorch. It’s sort of the forum version of Tech’s athletic programs historically. Blandly mediocre, largely irrelevant and vaguely unfamiliar.

A thread about Tech football bother Texas fans. Lol

Who fucking cares.  Just making it to kickoff weekend. I'd posit that you could post pics of Nobis, Street, and Jerry Gray and a shit ton of posters eouldn't know who they were/ are. Not my problem.

It's like an ounce of joy is a threat to y'all.

Huh? This thread doesn’t bother us. I love this thread. Hounding your dumbass is more fun than it should be, but here you are living up to my expectations again. I can’t lose.

My first game at Pyle Field.  My experience was beyond words, but not the way aggy thinks of it.  My gawd everything they do is bizarre.

My wife elbowed me for laughing at the ice cream men, the nut grabbing, and various other bullshit they do.  "I'm sorry.  You're supposed to laugh at a circus."

Robert Johnson turned that place on its head that night. Shannon Woods' block in the backfield gave Harrell time to hit his mark. It was awesome!!!

“Often” functioned as a back? I definitely don’t remember it that way.

Yeah idk what he's talking about. He was a pure slot receiver his entire career at Tech.

Welker had 79 career rushes at Tech.  That's not counting quick hitting inside screens that worked the same way as rushing plays in the Air Raid.

As a "pure slot receiver" in 11 years in the NFL, Welker had 19 rushes, and in 0 rushes in 5 of those seasons.

You were probably like most fans just watching the QB...

One of the most interesting/underrated Tech QBs ever. Great player, sort of under the radar guy out of Pflugerville because he was skinny as hell (and stayed that way, hence the moniker "Sticks"). Dude got his one chance and played great when he was healthy. If he had been at Tech under different circumstances (i.e. not sitting behind Graham Harrell most of his tenure) he might have been one of our greats. Dude knew Leach's system as well as anyone, had a sky high football IQ, great arm, and could run (when healthy). Was too bad we only got to see him part of one year and it was overshadowed by all the Taylor Potts/Adam James/Leach drama.

I think he and Seth Doege are probably the most underrated Leach QB recruits at Tech.

Oh I know he ran the ball plenty but it was always a jet sweep type play out of the slot, he was never taking handoffs as a back, that's all I'm saying.

often=/= "mainly"

I mean i mentioned "wing backy" upthread, and that was exactly how he functioned, relative to the olden days.

You are getting off easy with this small amount of abuse. I have seen Tech boards. There is no way they would tolerate any Longhorn “Glory Days” posts

They don't even like themselves.

All I'm saying is it's not like we're in here starting shit, but oh here come the protectors of the faith at any point to defend the burnt orange legacy.  Maybe it's too much to ask, but I would like to see it function like the baseball threads.  Stick to your own team, and if you wanna talk shit, there are places for that as well.

Understood, that this is probably not a realistic request, but it would solve things.  I mean, seriously, I posted some players most hardcore TEch fans know, but other schools don't necessarily register; and here comes the "reminders" of that one time Mahomes got knocked silly...and that punter.   Yeah, we fucking know...

There's nothing here in need of a "solve" from my perspective. Keep doing what you're doing and we'll keep doing drive-bys for our own pleasure.

Nothing wrong with that.

Regardless, this thread doesn't exist as "Place Where Exiled Tech Fans Post Positivity About Tech's Season Without Texas Poster Interference". This thread is here to keep board denizens informed about the happenings at Tech and then to discuss the Tech seasons as they unfold, often to great humor. That slorch is attempting to intervene in some manner and repurpose the thread to his own liking is as futile as it is laughable.

LOL.  overstate much?  It was a suggestion, not a campaign.

Quixotic quest granted, I guess.  Slash away bro.

One of the more incredible stats of the last several decades is that tech couldn’t muster more than 7 wins with the best QB of the current generation. And losing this game, lol.

Fucking Kliff. Could have killed it if he hadn't just straight up ignored the defensive side of the ball.

Mayfield averaged 15.1 ypa in that game and Mahomes threw 88 passes.  He was almost the first quarterback to hit his pitch count limit and get pulled.  What an insane game.
