The funny thing about @Derka and guys like him claiming Ewers was holding the team back is where is the proof? No one here was being held back by Ewers. In fact, one can say only Worthy is even living up to their draft position, with Golden still having a chance. Obviously Bond's situation is tough, but its not like any of these other dudes are killing it in the league.

You did a 4 post play by play shitting on his performance in garbage time of a game against the Cleveland Browns.

His injury was clearly holding him and the offense back. The dude couldn’t plant his front foot and zip it in. Was a statue in the pocket.

If his body could’ve held up more I think we would have a totally different view of him. Truly elite arm talent, could run the offense, leader in the locker room.

Both Golden and Helm have had significant playing time and are third on their resepctive teams in receptions. Not everyone is going to have a Worthy-like impact as a rookie.

I don't agree with Derka's take (I think it's a bit extreme) but I think it's a reach to say that Golden and especiallly Helm (a fourth rounder) aren't living up to their draft slots. There's no question that Arch could use a couple of guys like that right now.

This is where I'm at. Injuries really short-circuited his career here and stunted his development. I also think that was the biggest reason for his fall in the draft- in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if most teams took him off of their draft boards entirely after the UTSA game.

yeah well that’s kind of how life works innit? a guy cuts you off in traffic and gives you the finger, you say, “man id love to see that guy get pulled over”, yes? so when a rabid horde of people swear that a qb is better the he is simply because he plays for their favorite team, and i disagree with them using facts, stats, and empirical evidence, and they in turn respond with literal years of ad nauseam personal attacks, up to and including saying really vile things about my mental health, all because i (correctly) said that quinn wasn’t as good as they swore he was, i now don’t like those people, and would like to see them get pulled over. you follow?

you guys keep thinking this about quinn. it’s not. the *only* reason i care about this guy or his performances at all is because of the years of harassment and shit talk to me over my completely correct and fact based arguments which never saw me spitting hatred and vitriol over their differing and objectively wrong opinions.

that’s how life works. you make my life hell for no reason, i in turn enjoy it when the contentious subject matter makes these juvenile losers spaz the fuck out, so i’m more than happy to return the serve. you can keep getting upset at my QE posts if you want, but if that’s the case you should put me on ignore, because this all comes down to one simple line that this site swears it lives by: don’t start none won’t be none. if y’all didn’t want me posting about QE’s failures today then y’all shouldn’t have bombarded me with personal attacks for so many years over what was, again, a completely valid and accurate opinion which y’all simply didn’t want to hear. sorry, i’m not sorry at all.

Golden is expected to come in and have an immediate impact as a first rounder. Helm is present and thats the most you can say. No one is outperforming what they showed in college or even close to it. Thats what you see elsewhere. Receiver at some mid level school gets drafted and its obvious that he just wasnt getting the ball like that in school. Antonio Brown or Greg Jennings come to mind. If your receivers are getting drafted and then are largely meh at the next level then your QB is doing a good job of boosting their appeal. Not the other way around.

uh, in our memories? in the box scores? on the film? in all of the losses vs big time teams where quinn couldn’t move the chains? in all of the close, grind-it-out wins vs crappy teams where QE couldn’t move the chains? the fact that he was ranked 13th in the sec and 200th in the country in qbr?

where do you think bijan robinson, anthony hill, colin simmons, michael taaffe, our o line which was a finalist for the joe moore award, gunnar helm, matthew golden, jt sanders, ad mitchell, xavier worthy, jonathan brooks, roschon johnson, kelvin banks, jordan whittington, byron murphy, keondre coburn, t’vondre sweat, jaylan ford, jahdae barron, andrew mukuba, alfred collins, et al ranked? do you think that they were ranked 200th nationally at their positions? were any of them at the very bottom of the conference ratings?

dude, we were fucking LOADED during QE’s time here. like 2008-2009 loaded. the only reason we weren’t 2004-2005 loaded is because of our milquetoast, subpar quarterback. we had the best rb room in the country, a top five pass catching group, a top five o line, and the best defense in the nation while quinn was here running from shadows and turtling in the pocket. for you to sit here and act like everyone here doesn’t know for a fact that QE was a weak link on those teams is an insult to all of our intelligence, and an admission on your part that your are a True Believer in QE who is incapable of hearing or processing any truths about him that you don’t want to hear. “where’s the proof that he held the team back?” seriously man? be for real.

We weren't as loaded on offense as you think Derka. Matter of fact we've never been loaded on offense. We've had an actual piece here or there but most of the guys drafted on offense from Texas have basically been on hype. You wanna see loaded look at Ohio State. Thats loaded.

Regarding Golden, he was drafted by a run heavy team with a badass defense that has already established pass targets. It should be surprising to no one that he hasn't really popped yet. Trying to use him as an example of Quinn elevating his WRs is very fucking dumb.

That's been my sense of things, also.  Our talent is always somewhat overrated, in this particular case on the OL, but it's everywhere.

And I think/hope that the answer is coaching/recruiting consistency.  OSU, Georgia and Alabama have been stacking five stars longer than Sark has been at UT.  Is our talent as good as ND, Penn State and some other helmet schools, and better than a lot of others', sure, but it's those tippy top teams we're measuring ourselves against.

Golden worked hard with a trainer to get his 40 time down but he isnt some remarkable receiver. He is a try hard. I commend him for that but thats what he is. Had he never come to Texas he doesn't go in the 1st round. Jeremiah Smith is a 1st rounder if he played for Kentucky. Big. Fast. Eye popping catches. In my lifetime we've had one receiver like that and he was a headcase. Texas has been underwhelming all my life offensively. Quinn helped get Golden a 1st round tag. He didnt hold him back.

Now you are delving into delusion to try and make some point regarding Ewers. You don't run a fucking 4.29 40 by being a "try hard". Get a grip.

And no shit regarding Jeremiah Smith, he's a generational WR prospect.

Lol. Golden came to Texas and doubled his previous productivity. He is the perfect example. He doesn't come close to sniffing the 1st round if Quinn isnt throwing him balls.

Bro shut the fuck up. Idk if you are somehow related to Quinn but you say some of the dumbest fucking shit in this thread in particular. It's like some part of your brain turns off in here and in this conversation.

Quinn was definitely injured and it showed the way he played through the season. I think he was genuinely worried he wouldn't get the job back if he didn't come back when he did and that was a mistake from the coaching staff and Quinns camp and it negatively impacted his professional football career.

And for the record it didn't make a shit who was throwing Golden balls. His coaching staff and the rest of the offense and his personal effort and product he put out got him drafted. Quinn didn't do some fucking magic throw ahead of him and get him open shit. Miss me with that bullshit.

You talk endless crap about one of our former players.

Apparently, that isn't hateful enough, so you've expanded the argument to include his political beliefs as a key reason to dislike him.

And yet, you continually try to convince us you're not a hater.

The fuck? You absolutely can train and run a fast 40. What is wrong with you? Plenty of players go to facilities specifically meant to train you for combine times. My cousin owned one in Arizona. My cousin, Thomas Lewis from Akron Garfield high school, who played at Indiana and was drafted 1st round, 24th pick to the Giants because he ran a 4.29 at his pro day, will tell you players train all the time specifically to increase there 40 times. In fact players will stay at these facilities for a solid month to prepare.

todd mcshay fell in love with golden during his draft prep, ranking golden right behind tet mcmillan at the end of the day. his reasoning for it was literally that QE threw him so many bad passes that he still caught that it was unbelievable. he said, “this guy isn’t just a straight line burner, when you watch the film (and he says this next part with a wink and a smile) you see that quinn ewers gave matthew golden all kinds of opportunities to showcase his abilities as a pass catcher. he took so many bad throws and hauled them in and turned them into big runs after the catch.”

my recollection of what he said word for word may not be 100%, but the bottom line remains that mcshay fell in love with golden after watching tons of film of him making lemonade out of the lemons that QE was lofting his way. the idea that QE was making golden look good might be true, but it’s not because quinn was the one performing well.

Yes bro, no fucking shit that many many players train to improve their 40 time. Golden ran a 4.29 which is the 2nd fastest combine time ever (maybe you didn't know this?). You don't run the 2nd fastest combine time ever without having elite natural speed - because as you pointed out all the other WR running the 40 at the combine are also working with trainers. So no, he isn't just a "try hard", holy shit.

I say some dumb shit? Then you literally say dumb shit like it doesn't matter who is throwing to you? It absolutely matters. Not only does it matter who is throwing to you it matters where you play. Look at what schools all the 1st rounders come from. Now look at all the places the shouldve been 1st rounders come from. You know, the dudes with crazy skills but got overlooked. Golden doubled his receiving output coming here. He doesn't get 1st round if he stays in Houston.

Yeah because Houston didn't have shit for an OC or any fucking players worth a shit.

Golden is like a top 15-20 WR in the league in average separation score. Green Bay runs a “WR by committee”-type system where they’re constantly rotating personnel and varying targets. MLF has done a shit job emphasizing him in their scheme but he’s done nothing but get open and catch every ball that’s touched his hands.

Apparently every offensive Texas player who got drafted while Quinn was QB should be sending him a portion of their weekly game checks. It's truly amazing that such an elite talent that elevated the play of everyone around him somehow dropped to the 7th round.

Golden has good track speed but not good football speed. You understand the difference right? Neither did Mitchell who ran a 4.35. Some guys have good track technique that shows on a stopwatch but get caught from behind with the pads on. I dont even know why I have to explain this to you its been a thing since inception.

Golden, however, thinks he could have done more on that play even though NFL Next Gen Stats clocked him at 21.87 miles per hour, which would have been the third-fastest speed in the NFL by any ball carrier in the first two weeks.
