If they're willing to take both Lott and Bey, then I have no idea why they waited so late to offer Bey. Ohio State offered him back in January, we offered him 4 days ago.

Trying to read tea leaves here, but perhaps this is an indication that there’s some not obvious attrition expected in the WR room.

I mean just your average tax evasion scheme. Unless the businesses files the W2, so the NCAA/clearing house would know about it. It would be very easy to make all athletes submit their tax returns.

I think what people are finding funny is that it’s being called a “new workaround” when it’s been going on everywhere for decades, including here.

Which is pretty funny if you think about it: We didn't spend the crazy amount of money that we did on 5 star wide receiver commits just to have them ride the pine. But, that is what they did.

Probably words to live by for every non-starter freshman at every University in the country.  The question is whether you can push they guy who is currently better and getting more snaps than you out of the way?  Or are you certain that while you were unable to make yourself happy with your achievements at Texas, can you guarantee a bigger check or playing time starting over.  I think soon you we may see some sort of legislation restricting the movement of players.  Just to give more than 6 month stability to rosters?

I never fault a kid for trying to put themselves in a better situation.  But being a starter at Texas, even if you have to sit a year or two, is starting to become a pretty lucrative route beyond the NIL checks.  So they unhappy freshmen have to weigh that future potential as well. And if you do not see a route to eventual playing time, I would look around too.

But ALL freshmen, not getting a lot of playing time are disappointed, and unhappy. Almost Universally, because they truly believe that if they could just get some more reps, they could prove they deserve more playing time.  That has been true since college football was played with leather helmets.

Staff should mention Ryan Niblett wanted to transfer last offseason and look at him now.  Hanging around can pay off.

And Niblett is still mostly waiting in line at WR.  It's not three years ago, where if you were a talented freshmen you were almost assured of getting a lot of snaps.  Depth and competition means more time waiting until you can push that super talented starter out of the way at Texas more and more. And THAT is a very good thing!

I'm with you (I do want to keep our freshman WR's, but with the way Sark has recruited the portal for WR outside of his first season, he's hit on all of them, including Bond when he was healthy).

Portal > Lott (no offense to Lott, but he wouldn't see the field for us for at least a year, and that's only if he can he beat (name other WR's who play same position).

This probably sounded better in your head than on the keyboard.

Xavier Worthy and Ryan Wingo own 2 of the top 6 seasons in Texas history for receiving yards by a true freshman.

We had 3 NFL draft picks in the room in 2023 and still threw Johntay Cook multiple bones.

Those who prove they are ready to play have played. I'll buy the argument that it may not have been the best use of funds to pay for 3 expensive freshman receivers (if you include Michael Terry in that group). I won't buy the argument that they should be playing over anyone who is currently seeing the field, including the lowest-ranked guy in the group, McCutcheon, who was playing in the season opener against Ohio State.

I personally don't understand why Sark doesn't play his FR WRs more. It gets them game reps, and practice is zero sum, so it shows you nothing. There are practice studs, and there are game day studs who aren't great at practice.

Rotate Wingo/Livingstone and Lockett, with Wingo obviously getting the bulk, but we should see what Lockett can do, too.

Rortate Moore with McCutcheon/Ffrench for same reasons stared above

Use Swiss army knife Michael Terry III as a WR/H back, RB, wherever he's needed and can help. He's built like DL Metcalf, so I don't think a single tackle is taking him down.

TE rotate Washington/Endries with Townsend. He's a force of nature. Obviously he's not going to get the bulk, but give him something.

Other programs have no issues playing freshmen

Ohio State

Bama

Auburn

USC

Georgia

Aggy

Michigan

Penn State

Clemson

Oregon

And so on.... They don't seem to have an issue playing young frosh and them succeeding. I like Moseley, Moore, and Wingo, but younger guys should be getting reps to add an extra layer to the playbook, and Sark has shown he can dumb it down, which he should since this isn't the NFL, this is college. Get your talent out there.

What is Sark's track record for getting his starting WRs drafted? Seems pretty solid. So maybe the freshmen should focus strictly on the work it takes to become a starter at Texas.

When you suck against teams you should roll, this is the outcome.  I hated it last year and was pissed a Ewers, for not playing better to get Manning some PT, earlier.    And on offense, it damn hard to get more folks snaps in a live game when you can only give your regular receivers a couple of snaps before you punt.

Maybe we can roll Arkansas and get a lot of PT for the freshmen. But I bet our offensive snap count this year is as low as it has ever been.

Moore, Livingstone, and Wingo (to an extent) all waited their turn and are now starting and having good years. Livingstone redshirted and Moore did not record a single catch his freshman year.

Novel concept.

The only reason some of you think the freshman WRS should get more snaps is because they haven’t gotten any. That is literally the only reason. As mentioned above McCutcheon got snaps vs Ohio State and he is also a true freshman. I know a lot of people like to think there is a game day stud just sitting on the bench dwindling his thumbs because the coach doesn’t like the way they practice but that isn’t always the case. I’d also like to mention Butler was also ahead of those guys and he isn’t anyone’s favorite.

Seconded, I think this is largely where to place the playing time blame.

OK, so Worthy didn't have a choice because this was our WR room at the time

2022:

- Casey Cain

- Taeique Milton (transfer)

- Agiye Hall

- Troy Omeire

- Benen Thompson

- Jaden Alexis

- Isaiah Neyor - injured

- Jordan Whittington

2023:

- Jordan Whittington

- DeAndre Moore  FR-  0 stats

- Adonai Mitchell - (tramsfer)

- Johntay Cook FR-  8/136/0 for entire year (he caught passes against Baylor and Miss St)

Casey Cain

Isaiah Neyor - injured or a poor sport

Ryan Niblett 0 stats

Cook

2024:

- Matthew Golden (transfer, unknown how well he would breakout after halfway through the season) played X, Y, and Z receiver and only broke out starting after the ou game when Bond went out, so Wingo had to get reps because we had no one else who could play the position.

Johntay Cook - Soph 1/187/1

- Isaiah Bond (transfer) started at 'X' and played 'Z' in different formations

- Silas Bolden SR (transfer; return man) different position

Johntay Cook - Soph - slot

DeAndre Moore Jr - Soph - slot

Aaron Butler - FR 0 stats - slot

Parker Livingstone - FR 0 stats

Wingo - only other 'X' WR

So we had only one true X' WR (Wingo) on the team on scholarship, so he had to play since Golden took over for Bond (who was the primary 'x') and Wingo was his backup, so his numbers are inflated.

2025:

McCutcheon has 6 catches for 70 yards for the season. He got 1 catch for 2 yards against fOSU. Slot WR

No one even suggested playing anyone over someone else other than to say get them snaps. Not start. You don't have to do a 50/50 rotation, I was thinking more like 85/15 or 90/10. Obviously the starters should get the majority of the bulk, but it's not like the frosh WR's need to sit the bench and not see playing time AT ALL. What does tar do for their development for the next year? Continuing the cycle of being new and not having game reps to speed up their development next season. They need it for development, unless they're a project like Butler or Livingstone.

I bet you're 100% correct. From the ball coming out slow, Manning's development, and just slow progressing plays that Sark does, yeah, I can see a massive dip.

Plus if you can get younger WR's PT, you can end uo with a Dallas Wilson, Carnell Tate, Vernell Brown III, Eugene Wilson, Ryan Williams, Winston Watkins, etc. You don't know what you have in a live scenario until you put them against their peers, and I don't mean practice.

Wingo played as a freshman out of necessity, but Moore got to learn behind Whittington, one of the greatest Longhorns ever, and an amazing teacher. Livingstone was a project and needed weight, and is still 2 more catches ahead of  Wingo was as a true freshman, and is 10 catches behind Wingo and 250 yards behind, but both have 5 TD's for the season (Wingo had 2 as a true frosh).

So Wingo is the only freshman to start and it was out of necessity. Now we have Mosley and Livingstone, but that doesn't mean Lockett can't get reps to go into next season prepared.
