According to Alex Dunlap on Orangebloods, he is Curtis Brown's younger brother.

According to a news story I just watched, he is 16 years old, bench presses 420 .lbs, and is squatting 710 pounds.

Either his family's done some exciting moving around (a possibility!) or one of the services has a disconnect somewhere.

I think there is some Curtis Brown connection because, in the news article/video that I watched, he mentioned Curtis, although he didn't say what the connection is. Who knows?

They get this one in before the House settlement as well?

Nope. You can’t sign an athlete to a contract before they are 17 and can’t pay them till they arrive on campus

Isn't a booster interacting directly with a recruit still fucking illegal?

He’s not only a booster but I’m pretty sure he has official capacity at tech in their board of regents

Kavian Bryant it is

Are we definitely out of it for Gunner Rivers? Not that I'm complaining - Bryant seems great and, although I'm sure his ranking will change (up or down - who knows? It's really early), I certainly trust Sark and Milwee to properly evaluate QBs. Just wondering

We didn't offer him, so there's that

Bryant has made unofficial visits to Texas Tech....

So have most of our current in-state commits, get a hold of yourself.

He’s chubby, slow… and with the exception of one play (a reception showing his leaping ability) he scores every time he touched the football in his 6:15 sophomore year Hudl .

Different type prospect, Jerome Bettis starter kit? His RB instincts are fantastic, will his lack of speed be an issue in college, or will he be a guy who wins with great vision and balance, as he does on the tape? Defenders somehow never catch up.

I assume he has power at 235, but didn’t see much of it on the Hudl because he somehow rarely allowed anyone to lay a glove on him. I’m kinda intrigued how his career plays out. He has time to trim up and work on his speed, but the things that make him pretty good seem to be already there. @cafe society, take a look at Brayden if you haven’t already.

He's from Le Mans, France. I think he meant brother in the "supportive friend" sense.

My understanding from people plugged into all things Gilmer is that the kid came over by himself and has a guardian. His family is back in France, or maybe even an African country that was settled by France. I got the story a while back but forgot the details. I will ask again how he wound up in Gilmer, where Curtis Brown also went to high school. Gilmer has a lot of families in town who take in kids from rough homes and keep their heads on straight to get them into college. Kris Boyd and his brother were prime examples. I’m sure Curtis Brown had a similar story, and they may share the same guardian.

Ok, here’s the story:

Senegalese kid from France. Parents both died. Grandma had custody. She got sick and had to move back to Senegal cause she could not get French healthcare as a non-citizen. He got picked up by IMG Academy. There was an issue with his visa. Lost eligibility. Wound up in Gilmer somehow. Not really sure how.”

And the guardian is very pro-Texas.

Well, good thing there are about 20 different countries in Africa France colonized, which is why they mostly speak French.

Anyway, it's weird you brought this up. I read not too long ago that Africa has around 1200+ languages, but mainly speak French. Had you asked me how many languages the world itself had, my answer would hsve probably topped out at around 700...in the entire world. One continent with 1200 languages just blew my mind. That's all I got.

Carry on.

A good rule of thumb for qb recruits is that you are most likely to only sign an elite one every other year.  It will be 2028 for us because of Bell.  I think Sark talked to Phillip and they concluded our depth chart was a non-starter.

Gerry and Bobby have been saying for a while that they didn't think Philip Rivers would send his kid to a crowded qb room.

They in fact did say this, which is stupid. Iron sharpens iron, and it feels like he doesn't really care about learning the position in college so much as just wanting to start immediately. You know, like most idiot elite HS QB'S.

Bell is wise beyond his years. Said he looks forward to picking the brain of the starter and learning as much as he can. That's called real parenting.

OTF Premium Looking Ahead | 2027 Defensive Names to Know

CJ Vogel

Two weeks ago I posted a Look Ahead to the 2027 Prospects for the offensive side of the ball. Today, we will focus on the defensive prospects in the class of 2027.

Sure, plenty can, and will, change from now until the class really gets going with commitments and official visits. But with the season just a few weeks away, it is a great opportunity to start getting guys on the radar for all you recruiting aficionados.

***

EDGE

  • DJ Jacobs, EDGE, Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Trinity Catholic
  • Zyron Forstall, EDGE, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy
  • KJ Green, EDGE, Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson
  • Kaden McCarty, EDGE, Cypress (Texas) Cy Falls
  • Ezekiel Ayangbile, EDGE, Houston (Texas) Langham Creek
  • Cam Pritchett, EDGE, Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson

For the most part, another heavy out of state push from the Texas staff – specifically LaAllen Clark. It does not appear to be a great in-state crop of edge rushers with McCarty standing a tad undersized and Ayangbile not yet holding a Texas offer. This position is wide open at the moment.

Defensive Line

  • Jalen Brewster, DL, Cedar Hill (Texas) High
  • K'Adrian Redmond, DL, DeSoto (Texas) High
  • Amari Vickerson, DL, Cypress (Texas) Ranch
  • Khyren Haywood, DL, Denton (Texas) Guyer High
  • Kadin Fife, DL, Summerville (Ga.) Chattooga
  • Jamar Thompson, DL, Boca Raton (Fla.) West Boca Raton
  • Justin Weeks, DL, Atlanta (Ga.) Pace Academy
  • George Toia, DL, Fontana (Calif.) Summit High
  • Donivan Moore, DL, Hueytown (Ala.) High
  • Ricardo Parker, DL, Prattville (Ala.) High

Much like the edge position, there remains a lot to learn about where Texas will go on the interior for the 2027 class. Plenty of out of state offers were extended in May and June as Kenny Baker and the staff continued to branch out nationally. Jalen Brewster is the highest ranked of the bunch, though we will see if that ranking holds firm. For the time being, the Longhorns have six offers to 2027 DL in California and five extended to prospects in Georgia.

Linebackers

  • Taven Epps, LB, Tustin (Calif.) High  AllGasNoBrakes
  • Cooper Witten, LB, Argyle (Texas) Liberty Christian
  • Omarii Sanders, LB, Nashville (Tenn.) Franklin Road Academy
  • Kaden Henderson, LB, Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit
  • Toa Satele, LB, Mililani (Hi.) High
  • Roman Igwebuike, LB, Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel
  • Braylon Williams, LB, Arlington (Texas) Lamar

One big time backer is already in the class with the commitment from Taven Epps out of Tustin, California. Of course, that will be a fight through the finish line, but a great start. Johnny Nansen and staff offered a number of big prospects in the middle of May, with Satele, Igwebuike, and Henderson all receiving offers. Right now, Texas has work to do for five-star LB Cooper Witten. Look for an early season game visit to be set up.

Cornerback

  • John Meredith III, CB, Euless (Texas) Trinity
  • Josh Dobson, CB, Fort Mill (S.C.) Catawba Ridge
  • Duvay Williams, CB, Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra
  • Jailen Hill, CB, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco
  • Jerry Outhouse Jr., CB, Crowley (Texas) North Crowley
  • Montre Jackson, CB, Garland (Texas) Lakeview Centennial
  • Taelyn Mayo, CB, Lewisville (Texas) High
  • Mikhail McCreary, CB, San Antonio (Texas) Johnson
  • JuJu Johnson, CB, Long Beach (Texas) Long Beach Poly

This is a really solid group of in-state prospects for the state of Texas. John Meredith III is the top cornerback in the country per several different ranking services. The Longhorns also received an unofficial in the spring from future five-star Joshua Dobson. Texas is going to be ultra competitive in the corner market for 2027, and they won't have to go far to do it.

Safety

  • Chance Gilbert, DB, Sharpsburg (Ga.) East Coweta
  • JayQuan Snell, DB, Waxahachie (Texas) High
  • Eli Johnson, DB, Cibolo (Texas) Cibolo Steele
  • Isala Aisa Wily-Ava, DB, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco
  • Adryan Cole, DB, Atlanta (Ga.) Pace Academy
  • Gavin Williams, DB, La Verna (Calif.) Damien High
  • Honor Fa'alave-Johnson, DB, San Diego (Calif.) Cathedral Catholic

Plenty of length in this bunch as Snell, Johnson, Wily-Ava, and Cole all stand 6–2 or taller at the moment. On the in-state front, Eli Johnson was offered this June at the Elite Camp, and the Longhorns hosted JayQuan Snell on campus multiple times in the spring. Isala Aisa Wily-Ava camped in June of 2024 where he received his offer as well. Cole and Williams each received their Texas offers in the month of May.

- Jordan Scruggs / Horns 247, on 2027 QB Kavian Bryant.  This was on July 14th.

- IT/Rivals/On3 tweets today.

Taken together - and if accurate - they suggest we're in a good spot, early, for a major QB target.  (Assuming TT lets us sign him ... lulz.)
