2020 Democratic Nominee

Medicare-for-All phase-in under Sanders's plan: Year 1: Expanded Medicare for 0-18 and 55+

Year 2: 45-54 rolled in

Year 3: 35-44 rolled in

Year 4: 19-34 rolled in

Of course, it could just all be rolled in the first year.

Please use a specific argument as to how the Wyden-Bennett plan would move more quickly. I have seen nothing about the speed of its planned implementation.

And also, could you please answer these questions...

bozo, can you tell me what votes the Democrats would get on the other side of the aisle for ANY of those alternatives that they wouldn't get for Medicare for All?

Can you tell me which of those plans wouldn't be characterized as radical socialist government intervention by Trump (and, by extension, all Republicans)?

This has been enough of a threadjack and it’s clear you aren’t all that interested in the weeds of healthcare policy so I’m not going to get further into it here than I already have, but w/r/t your last point -I don’t give a fuck how healthcare reforms or anything else is “characterized” by Republicans. The GOP has called every Democrat president since 1917 a socialist and will characterize anything as socialism. They even characterized cap and trade and ACA (their own plan) as socialism. Who cares?

It’s the job of elected Democrats to sell a plan to the public on the merits and use the power they have at points of maximum leverage, not persuade people intractably opposed to progress and compassion to change their minds. One of the reasons Democrats lose so fucking much is that they have victim mentality and don’t hold themselves accountable for winning.

Just curious. Do people think Medicare for All will be Free Healthcare?
The difference in polling when asked just a basic "do you support m4a" vs. when asked "do you support m4a if it means higher taxes" would indicate that about 35% of people do indeed believe just that.

Guest Lobo

What would that proposal do to the blockgrant burden of most states?  That would change the need for state income taxes, literally over night.  Or at least their rates/brackets.

Donald Trump is the actual President but it’s on the Democrats to “act” presidential.

I’m so tired of this timeline.

Just like how Democrats always have to explain how they will pay for things, but no one asks Republicans how they will pay for a wall or tax cuts or massive ICE deportation forces or wars.

The only word you left out was "hysterical."

Do you ever get laid?

Because FYI, women can smell the kind of disdain and hatred that you hold for women.

Did you call Swallwell a “nasty angry bitch” for his rehearsed attacks on Mayor Pete? How about Castro for not only attacking Beto but lying while doing it?

No?

And nice racist cherry on top of your misogynistic shitpile with the quip about “too much bling”.

You need to head to your local pet store and get your dog whistle checked out. It’s way too loud and out of tune to be effective.

Biden is starting his Jeb Bush slide awfully early, and with little effort from the other candidates.

There’s a reason his other runs failed badly and Obama didn’t try harder to get him to run in 2016

I don't expect this Kamala love to last very long. We'll see.

There's an article I saw today (forgot who it was), that said her team really saw how people reacted to her getting personal ("I was that little girl") that you will see her open up more about her upbringing and personal life.

Also, I'm still way into seeing her and her husband own SF Pride.  No one had as much fun this weekend as she did.

That's good. My initial impressions are I don't find her very genuine and I don't think she believes what she's selling. Hopefully getting to know her more will shine a more positive light.

Unlike Warren, Kamala doesn’t pass the central tests for me yet:

“Is she a good person in it for the right reasons?”

”Do I trust her?”

Kamala checks a lot of boxes and reminds me of an ambitious version of Obama/Hillary.  She could certainly beat Trump but she still has a lot to prove IMO.

Nevertheless, she’s currently in my top 2.

Maybe everybody is already past this, but no matter how well Pete speaks the language I can’t shake the idea that a lot of voters are going to have in the back of their mind, “Yeah, but he’s the thirty something Mayor of South Bend, Indiana.”

I know we have Trump right now, who wasn’t even a politician, but I don’t think everyone is ultimately going to be cool with the idea of a young guy rocketing straight from small town mayor to leader of the free world.

I think Harris is going to be in a better position to take the shaky Biden votes.  A lot of the old people will probably just stick with Biden, but olds don’t dominate the Democrat voting base like they do the GOP.

If Biden falters quickly while Bernie and Warren both stay in and split the far left votes, Harris could really thrive.

Saw an example of this yesterday.  Some relatives, older reliable Democrats, were discussing the debate and almost universally agreed that they liked "the little guy," but would prefer someone more experienced.  He'll definitely get their vote if he's the nominee, but I think he has a huge struggle ahead of him to get there.  Would love if he did, though.

Pete's pulling in big amounts of money. He's going to have some staying power.

Yep, he’s buying himself time. For Pete to have a chance he needs to have continued national exposure. He’s already qualified for the next 2 debates.

Per CNN:

Quote

Biden dropped from 49% to 36% with black voters, while Harris jumped from 6% to 24%

That's big.  Big big big.

Quote

Still over 20% of black voters have no opinion of Harris (only true for less than 10% of black voters for Biden).

29% trust Harris on race relations compared to 23% on Biden.

The black voter myth about Biden may have shattered a bit.
