I am starting to be a believer, he has a undisclosed shoulder injury.

A couple of people I was watching the game with wondered if he was injured and the side arming of the ball was something he was doing to play through it.

I watched a few passes from the MS-ST game last year and his motion looked different to me.

We spent two years listening to same people saying Ewers has an injury that’s why he can’t throw downfield and here we are again in game one for Arch….  He was clearly overthinking most throws like a golfer with the yips to me. A shoulder injury that’s so bad you throw a 8 yard pass at the receivers feet like a fastball or over their head?

Maybe it's a "Rookie of the Year" situation where the injury made him throw harder.

No I understood it perfectly, however you implied in your previous post the issue is Sark/play call when that wasn’t the issue as you just stated in your follow up post. Arch made the wrong read, he had the underneath route wide open. We have ran that play successfully multiple times over the past few years. One of the two routes are always open, the QB has to make the right read. And the read can’t just be made pre snap. Look deep, if the corner gets depth take the underneath.

If you understood it perfectly then why are you still talking about it? That particular route combo is timed so the deep post can clear out space for a route across the field underneath. A QB surveying the field is going to use the deep defenders to determine what to do. If opposing defenses are so locked in that they are rolling to the perfect defense for it post snap then it is on the play designer to have a counter for that. We've been running that combo for 3 years and I have yet to see something designed off that action that would tell me we are self=scouting well enough. Almost every team we play defends us with some variation of roughly the same defense. In this case Ohio State ran their signature inverted Tampa 2. A defense we saw last year but we had nothing different for it in the passing game. So yes, while a QB should know that he is going to get what is basically Cover 3 from OSU, the coach should stop letting his QB get fooled by the same defensive schemes over and over.

Ok I watched the all passes video and the film guy video. Pretty brutal.

I addition to all the shortcomings we’ve covered thoroughly, it did also seem to me that he at least did a good job of not making poor decisions against a really good pass defense he was playing. Looked to me like the way he played could have ended up with multiple panicked throws that shouldn’t have been made at all for ints. And that didn’t really happen.

No mistake about it, dude has to get better. But that’s at least one positive I saw.

Yea I mean most of his misses were the wide open correct decision

Well, yea. That’s my point.

Small consolation I know.

Agree. I think my takeaway is hitting an open receiver should be easier to fix than zero clue what to do with the ball.

Pretty surprised to have to type that sentence but here we are I guess. Bring on week two and let’s see what we get.

It makes it worse and better at the same time.

Arch is bad. His whole thing has been he has great mechanics and a plus arm. How has he regressed so much in one off season? Go back and watch the game and you will see how difficult it looks for him to throw the ball 10 yards. He had to put everything he's got into every throw. His mechanics were awful and he didn't have the arm to make up for it. I am completely off the arch bandwagon and would be up for benching him asap. Either he has an injury or he fucked around all offseason, because he looked worse than Hudson Card. I'm at such a loss. He looks absolutely terrible and everyone acting like there was anything redeemable about a single throw he made is just fooling themselves. Arch is an awful quarterback

That throw to Endries was incredible. Guess you were in the bathroom when that happened?!

Competent starters in highschool make that throw. Arch was awful. Go watch former nfl and cfb players breakdown the tape of the game. He doesnt look like he belongs in Div 1 football. I think he looked great last year and his mechanics were just fine, but something is different now. It's some of the worst game tape of a cfb qb I have seen in a decade

^clearly you skipped out on watching Jerrod Heard, Tyrone Swoopes, and Hudson Card play QB for us then.

Here is a former NFL quarterback breaking down Arch's game. Just awful

I stopped watching first minute when he said his arm doesn’t have the wow factor. The guy has a cannon for an arm, it’s a wow arm. That guy is a dumb shit. Doesn’t take away from the fact that arch shit the bed and doesn’t have a touch pass in his repertoire. Even his excellent completions suuucked if graded.

He didn't show it against Ohio st. Skipped easy passes and it looked difficult for him to even throw the ball 10 yards. But yeah I'm sure you know more than nfl quarterbacks

Could have used Tyrone Swoopes on that QB sneak.

He did show it, he threw to hard all the time. His one deep ball was a missile. His arm strength is off the charts. He played like dog shit. His accuracy and mechanics were awful. He has tape where he throws on a dime and has good mechanics. He will get better. tOSU mind fucked him all day long. Honestly we shouldn’t have been so surprised.

Most stating caliber QBs can throw piss rockets. It’s nothing unique.

Agreed but the guy said arch had nothing wow about him in the first minute. That dude is click bait trash. It takes 1 second to see arch’s wow factor. Lots of question marks but that dude was wrong out of the gate so I don’t think his analysis is worth the wasted bandwidth to watch.

Based on the game vs Ohio state he literally didn’t.

The troll is citing a former NFL practice squad QB who is now a CFB 26 video game influencer lol.

A troll? That was just one video I picked out of a dozen you can watch breaking down Arch's film you dunce. Btw he was an NFL qb who played under Sark so it's not like he doesn't have an understanding of what's supposed to be going on. So your whole thing is you just try and discredit anyone that has any criticism over the game our qb just played?

Annnnd there are a dozen videos from people like Chase Daniel (played in the NFL for a decade+) who chalk it up to a bad game and say Arch will be fine… Quarterbacks play poorly sometimes. It happens.

Going back and watching the ULM film, I'm starting to think no one ever scouted Arch. The same issues are present all throughout that game. Hell, it's an infinitely worse performance than Ohio State, was no one was paying attention? He steps up into pressure/tries to escape pockets that are protected, makes wild off balance sidearms throws, touch is all over the place, footwork is abysmal, throwing motion mediocre(not end of world, e.g. Phillips Rivers, but still leaves. a lot to be desired), limited zip, and is extremely clumsy/unbalanced despite the athleticism...

00:42 late read, Golden is wide open and waits too late allowing LB to get pressure. Sidearm overthrow that could have been picked

00:58 first read, 5 yard hitch, Moore is wide open

01:10 first read isn't open, bails on progressions, steps up into clean pocket and creates artificial pressure leading to minimal gain

01:40 decent throw, requires diving catch by Bolden

02:00 panics under pressure, throws duck into triple coverage that's picked off

04:55 great ball, legitimate nfl throw assuming he's just not airing it out

07:50 doesn't feel pressure, late throw while hit that's off target

08:10 first read, 5 yard quick slant to helm who is wide open as corner is playing off on 3rd and 12

08:35 first read, simple flat route to blue

10:50 rb screen thrown off back foot, off target. there's slight pressure by design but shouldn't cause the misfire, should have still been caught but the ball location fucks up the play's momentum regardless

11:00 wingo is open, ball underthrown by 10 yards and could have been picked but ultimately draws PI

11:20 good throw, wingo is wide open

11:50 te/wr screen

12:20 busted coverage, wingo is wide open. basic throw any high school qb can make

15:20 bolden is wide open for a long td, ball is overthrown when it could have been lofted for an easy td. result is diving attempt but ultimate drop

16:25 first read, horrible decision and throw. only reason this isn't a pick 6 is because it's off target by 5 yards

16:45 slight underthrow, if he leads golden it's probably a TD

17:10 golden is open on a 5 yard hitch, misses him, panics under pressure and takes a sack

18:10 blue is wide open on a wheel route for a td, overthrown by 2-3 yards

18:53 goal line fade that's off target by 3 yards, should have been picked as he threw it directly inside to the db rather than the outside/wr shoulder

26:25 accurate ball, but it's into triple coverage and should have been picked

26:40 blue is wide open on another wheel route for a long td, overthrows him when noone is within 10 yards of him

27:20 tight throw into coverage to a rb, he does good job going through progressions to get to his 3rd read but should have never made this throw as it's very dangerous and is ultimately picked on the ricochet

Film isn't all-22 so coverages aren't always apparent, but ULM couldn't stop the run and didn't have the athletes to cover the WR's, so they were forced to play 7-8 in the box, and sit in cover 1 with the safety 30 yards deep out of desperation. It can't possibly get any easier than that as the WR's were open all game and Arch made bad decisions/off target throws throughout

The video linked of the breakdown by the guy that was a backup for the packers is spot on. Arch isn't close to an NFL QB, I'm not even sure if he should be a scholarship player after looking at that ULM film. The guy is undoubtedly jealous over attention/NIL arch has been given, but his breakdown checks out and the envy is probably warranted given he's undoubtedly a more skilled qb yet an NFL washout.

Given the Ohio State game was a repeat of the ULM game, it's likely just who he is. And if that's the case, his play is probably going to get Sark fired as he'll be blamed for his poor developmental, but the talent just isn't there imo. He looks like a mid level HS QB surrounded by elite talent who's way out of his element. I thought the premise of him being hyped on his name was ludicrous, but I'm now a firm believer after looking back at that ULM game post-Ohio State. I actually think this turns out to be way worse than it did with Simms, Chris had talent but not NFL talent and things went to shit in big games when he went against defenses with legitimate NFL talent. Arch meanwhile misses 5 wide open TD passes in that ULM first half and should have had 6 ints

After rewatching his throws, I’m going to give him props for remaining very calm in the pocket and trusting his blockers. He did this exceptionally well, considering the situation.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic. He literally did the opposite of remaining calm and trusting his blockers. You can see him rush throws and fall back on his delivery like he's expecting to get hit even when the pocket is clean

What part of crumbled under the pressure do you not understand? Yes, he completely fell apart. Once that happens a player is liable to do anything, that's why you try to avoid it and stay calm. But what value is there in analysing exactly how he fell apart? That would be like analyisng a drunk guy and concluding that he forgot how to walk. The man still knows how to throw a football and he will likely demonstrate that next week.

It's harsh but I would've went "Arch Manning: Future ____trophy winner or runt of the litter?" as thread title.

Great.

I would have gone with the proper conjugation of the verb “to go”, but…

It’s harsh to correct the grammar of the uneducated.
