This is incorrect. It was a very vanilla gameplan. Not much in the way of targets to motion, which Sark usually relies on to scheme open looks. You are probably the 1st person I have seen say it was a good gameplan. You have Babers, The Film Guy, and Scipio all come out and say Sark had a bad day. It is possible that the QB looked like ass and the game plan was weak.

One of the biggest, consistent, knocks on Sark is his desire to force his will offensively rather than take what the defense is giving him. This is not just at Texas and not a singular media source.

This.  Either his "plan" works, or he keeps trying to shove that shit down everyone's throats.  He's just trying to out-execute everyone, and when it doesn't work, there are minimal adjustments.

Can we get one fucking bootleg?  Just one to keep these attacking defenses honest.  Maybe a few misdirection plays to get guys out in space?

I dont think he is hurt. He just looked rushed. His mechanics were absolutely brutal, which was shocking to watch. He did not show anything like that in the film last year. You have to monitor this, but I am going to guess we see a completely different looking QB the next game. If his mechanics look like this on Saturday, then i will be happy to join you with a tinfoil hat on.

Lefau play was his hands to the face of the OL, who in turn held Lefau in the endzone. I think that was just a tough play and I am not sure he gets held if his hand doesnt get up into the OL's facemask.

Simmons had a hands to the face which was actually flagged as a facemask on the third down where we had stopped them.  They went on to score on that drive.  Lefau was called for a hands to the face on the same play where he was held in the end zone which negated a safety.

Nobody hid anything with Ewers. We knew he had the oblique strain after Michigan.

Saturday(or the next 3 for that matter) isn't really going to tell us anything. @Florida and RRS will, though.

That's fair and why I have both not talked much about it and admitted it was purely speculation. However, you do have to agree their is historical precedent with this staff to hide QB injuries, if you believe Quinn. It's also possible it was a combination of mental and physical. Can you explain his sudden inability to not hit easy passes and alterations of his motion purely on mental issues? Perhaps. Occum and his razor would tend to agree. However, the massive degree of change could indicate otherwise. We do agree that additional evidence is needed, but I think calling it tin foil hatting is as closed minded as insisting it's 100% injury or any injury at all, which I haven't at any point.

If yall haven’t watched the Film Guy breakdown, take the time. It is really eye opening. Arch’s mechanics, sark’s thought process, and most importantly, Patricia and the osu D scheme. Caleb  Downs is a freak.

His throwing motion will. If he continues the side arm action, which wasn't seen prior, he's been coached that, or he's injured. Neither of which is great.

I think if the mechanics are off at home vs a cupcake is telling. Lets just say Saturday wont tell us if Arch is fine for the rest of the year, but it could at least hold off the meltdown.

Seemed like he was trying to throw some of the short, quick throws off platform like Mahomes and even Ewers.  Especially on screens.  Ewers did that all the time, but he was actually really accurate that way.

He looked rushed, like the game was moving too fast for him.  Surprised me, based on how he played last year.

I think in one of the interviews before the game, Sark said he wanted Manning to just be himself and play his game.  Well, that's not what we saw in this one.

The film guy breakdown is good, but I feel the general theme is being missed.

Yes, Sark has some tendencies, literally every team/coach does. tOSU is really good on defense, Caleb Downs and others are really good at football.

The general theme, and what is true, is Arch was bad. Mechanically he was bad, timing was bad, reads weren’t great…. All types of throws/plays were attempted and called and he did not excel at any of them.

Even if he was like 20% better we might when that game still.

The next 3 games will be good for him to get through progressions, get in rhythm and generally play football with confidence…. Which was clearly lacking on Saturday. Get feeling good about yourself rolling into Florida/OU.

Sark also said, "let her rip". It would seem Manning took that to heart, mechanics be damned, much to our chagrin.

Arch aside for a moment, defending Texas offense, comes down to athletes. Georgia has written the script and OSU copied it twice. If you have the players, just copy that game plan, rinse, repeat. We will absolutely see the same game plan against Georgia. Not sure Florida has the athletes to accomplish it, but they will try and so will OU. This is much more a issue with Sark than our QBs and it's becoming a really bad habit.

"Let her rip" early seems an obvious tactic to help Arch stay loose and calm.

Play your game.  Be you.  Etc.

Problem is, when it didn't work and Arch was clearly frazzled, the adjustments were minimal and largely ineffective.

How many other defenses have Caleb Downs and the ability/personnel to execute a complex defense?  UGA/FL/OU may all to some degree although none of them have a player like Downs.  And it certainly doesn't help that we had absolutely no film to study.   TCU wasn't dialing up explosive plays left and right last night because they have better skill position talent than we do.  They were just playing an absolute shit defense.

This is why we saw so many leads evaporate over the course of the games last year.  Texas jumped our early, ran the same shit, and good coordinators adjusted and teams clawed their way back into games.  Texas just had faster horses and pulled most of them out at the end.

Shit doesn't work with an inexperienced QB.  Nor will beating up powderpuff teams.  The same thing over and over works.  It's when it doesn't that Sark has no answer for.

The cover 3 podcast guy. Forgot his name, starts with a B I think. He tweeted something like Texas isn’t going to face a secondary as good as that but they will face a better d line.

Pretty much any of them that we could face in playoffs, semi finals, or championships.

Sark may have said "let her rip", but in the 1st quarter that damn sure wasn't in the script. It was an extremely conservative game plan early on. Not that it mattered because the "adjustments" were the same as OSU 1, Georgia 1 and Georgia 2.

Which... all had similarly predictable results.

That sounds right.  The QB guy breakdown did a great job of highlighting how special Downs is.  Just unreal instincts.   Elite ability to read the play and react immediately.

Sigh... yep. Goes back to my post on athletes on the defense side. When they equal or surpass Texas the results are frustratingly predictable.

Arch's play was bad, and I think it will improve. I just don't have much hope for Georgia 3.

Film Guy isn't overhyping Caleb either. I'd be shocked if he doesn't win the Thorpe and go top 10 in the draft.

BEST case scenario is the inexperienced QB they have is going to make similar mistakes.  He can run.  We all saw that.  He's tough.  But can defenses exploit him.  I think they can.

It's LSU, who seems the clear favorite in the SEC right now, that scares me.....assuming Texas can even make the championship game or playoffs.

Maybe someone should have talked to him about that on the sideline in the 1st quarter?

There’s a trend here over the last few years that the QB coach either isn’t doing his job or both QB’s don’t learn from the coaching.  They both seemed to regress in footwork and mechanics.

Eh. Simmons and the D in general played well. He didn't light up the stat sheet because we didn't really create the situations for it. Ohio State had 200 yards of offense. Bitching about individual defensive stats is misguided. The game plan worked.

It silly. Only thing you can say OSU offense was very conservative also and went to even more conservative in the 4Q. Perhaps the secondary did not get the test we expected. Not too worried about that, but if you want to try to figure out if the defense is top 5 or top 10 based on that have fun with it.

Yeah it was crazy. His short passing game was just turrible. The weird thing is that I don't remember it being that way last year. Am I misremembering?

I believe he was like 81-83% on short passes according to Scipio last year.

Bud Davis did a big look at Texas (analytics guy, UF guy - looked at it as a UF opponent) and shared this a few weeks ago.

keep seeing people say that re gameplan, REALLY interested to see the updated data/numbers from game 1 - but don't have time time yet to pay the 15/week for this week to see if the same graphics exist over there or if he did additional work to make it happen.

Arch can't seem to control the velocity in his throws. His deep throws are beautiful but short and intermediate ones are hard to catch because he doesn't take anything off. Quinn was the opposite.
